Colored Girl Rebirth Great Group Shot

Campaign To Highlight Women Of Color Returns

We are so excited to see The Colored Girl, Inc is back with another great campaign, this time dubbed The Rebirth. While many of the original models are back, founders Victory Jones and Tori Elizabeth brought even more women of color to the campaign by featuring models who represent a number of diverse backgrounds. We were also excited to see supermodel Diandra Forrest has joined the movement!

“This campaign is important because it signifies something greater than just being comfortable in our own skin,” reads the statement from The Colored Girl, Inc founders Tori Elizabeth and Victory Jones. “It’s about regeneration, rebirth and a reclaiming of our power, while broadening the scope of what it means to be The “Colored” Girl. We have to recognize that the effects of colorism are not only present in the black community, but in all brown communities, and that issues plaguing us as brown women is something that we (sadly) have in common. These and other commonalities, are the ties that bind us; while we unite to celebrate the differences that also make us unique and beautiful. We felt it was important to represent this visually, while also capturing the stunning essence of each individual woman.

Dope right?

You’ll probably notice that this time around the women are styled in both neutral and natural colors as well as whites and beiges…

“We chose to style the original girls in white to set them apart, signifying “rebirth,”” Tori and Victory explained. “Having been featured in the original campaign, they’ve been here before, and have had an awakening of sorts. They’ve undergone the journey, which the newer girls (in nudes, neutrals, earth tones) are currently embarking upon… a rite of passage to self-discovery, which begins with first accepting and embracing everything you are.

We feel that a lot of people will not only fall in love with the images, but with what it represents as well, which is not only the resurgence of The Colored Girl, but widening the margins to include more of them. Yes, We love black women. We are black! But we are also brown and part of a much larger global community of Colored Girls. And yes, we feel that what we are doing is sorely needed, because representation matters. We also know that to ever move past where we have been or even where we are today, both are needed: the celebration of US, as well as the inclusion of others who have also been marginalized.

We are serving beauty and fashion with the purpose of creating awareness, fostering empowerment and cultivating solidarity amongst brown women, while showing the world that we all deserve to be celebrated equally. At the end of the day, this is still a love movement.

We love it!

Keep flipping for more dope shots from the campaign and to meet the models.

This is the REBIRTH of the black woman… she stands before you awakened and ready, in all her crowning glory to reclaim her regality and be celebrated in equality. Through her journey of self-affirmation and self-love, she is no longer an after thought. She has rightly taken her place at the table and shall not be ignored. No longer will she be relegated to subpar treatment. She stands up for herself and others in strength and love, to uplift those around her.

Having bared the brunt of societal woes, she recognizes and understands the plights of her other colored sisters, and as such calls upon them to also be awakened and stand with her in solidarity. Bonded together through the commonalities of those before her, she is now able to join forces with her sisters and blaze a trail for those just embarking on their journey as a Colored Girl.

She is not unshakeable but she is resilient.
She is not omnipotent, but she is strong.
She is not perfect, but she is beautiful.

She deserves to be accepted and celebrated just as much as anyone else. And she stands with those who have also been discriminated against because her empathy runs as deep as her love. It’s in embedded in her DNA.

She is fierce.
She is tender
She is intelligent and worthy.
She is The Colored Girl, reborn.

Meet the new generation of The Colored Girl… guided by the experiences of those who came before her, she traverses her way thru self-discovery, self-love and finally self-celebration, to create a space to flourish and embrace the confidence of being in her own skin. She is fully aware of the love she has to give, receive, and will accept nothing less. She stands as a shining example of beauty and style. She represents the expansiveness of beauty and a shift in consciousness. Like those before her, she continues to redefine the status quo. While she relishes in her authenticity and welcomes other fellow brown girls to join her, as they embark upon an inspiring and much needed journey, and rite of passage… TOGETHER.
