BUT….to answer them (from my perspective)

1) I have NO idea how much yaki weave costs because I dont wear it! My hair is pretty long as is, but if I DO decide to wear it then its strictly for braiding purposes.

2) I believe there are different prices for the length and kind of hair it is (I think).

3) When I get braids, they last a few weeks. My hair grows fast so I dont keep it in for very long. And I never keep it in longer than needed.

4) My braids cost anywhere from $60-$80, depending on the style that its going in.

I live in Nashville and my stylist does the weave for every country music singer in the industry.
I was getting my hair done when a country girl group members getting their weave done for their tour. You can go on her website now and everyone on it is white with a weave.

Last I checked white women wear weave too. I guess it’s ok for them because it’s just to make there hair fuller. Don’t trip men you can’t tell they have because the weave is made better suited for the texture of their hair. Many of them may not have full blown weaves but a lot do wear pieces and extensions make their hair look thicker and bigger. Also I’m not a big weave fan, I’ve tried it and just wasn’t comfortable wearing it. Although I have no problem with anyone that wants to wear it and it still looks decent. I mean I’m not the one wearing it and if that’s what they like then let them. Also I don’t know any black women like the ones hear or maybe I just have a different circle of friends. My friends that do wear weave I sometimes think should have went to cosmetology school and just quite grad school. It is amazing how much they know about the hair products.

I think the concept of the commercial was cool. However, I believe what’s offensive about it to some people is that the ladies’ behavior is so over-the-top sterotypical.

Many pardon the depths of hatred, and constant formulaic conceptions of us as a people in America for a profit.

You may not see anything wrong with this (or, any other short/full length feature), but you have to ask yourselves, what were their intentions of creating this spec, and are they laughing with you, or at your expense?

The commercial just shows how the world views most black women and their “hair”. I think it’s funny and sad at the same time.

As soon as this subject is brought up, the first response from most is “white women wear weave too”. Ladies, Hollywood types and performers do not count. Surely you realize they are performers and even their everyday looks are “costumes” since we live in such a voyeuristic society that they are never “off-stage”. Ladies, if you are not a performer, please do not wear “costumes” on the streets. You look silly. I am surrounded by white females on a daily basis and don’t know ONE who wears a weave. I know one who wears wigs because she is undergoing chemo. When you do see a white woman in a wig or weave, it is always a natural look, not someone else’s texture. But on the other hand, 85% of the black women I know have not seen their real hair texture since they were children. But when someone points it out and says it’s self hate, you get a attitude. These are the same chicks screaming about how Michael Jackson wanted to be white. I have a newsflash for you, being a slave to relaxers, weaves, extensions and running around with barbie hair on your head or with your hair fried straight is no different from MJ’s skin lightening, nose surgeries and wig wearing. I thought the ad was funny. The sad part is that some blacks in fact speak in that manner. I remember trying to get my older brother to say “one hundred” instead of “ah hundid”. He insisted on the latter. Then I actually bet my friend $1000 that a thousand dollars is also commonly known as a “grand” rather than a “grant”. Well, we know how that went. I still remember those blacks who felt some insane need to “be true to the hood” accusing those of us practicing standard English that were just “trying to be white”.

In the end, if we don’t manage our international image others will manage it for us. That said, there is absolutely nothing wrong about some stereotypical jokes every now and again. All cultures are the brunt of such entertainment. Just watch your own behavior while in front of your children and while in public and everything will be ok in your personal life. Good enough.

How dare you *****ume that black women’s hair won’t grow because we don’t wash and condition it often enough. That’s ridiculous and insulting. Hair length is not determined by just good hair care. If that were the case, there would be thousands of black women with hair down their backs, including Oprah and Michelle, cause most black women do not skimp on hair care. Don’t you think Oprah and Michellet have the best hairdressers money can buy? Michelle’s hair has obviously grown since she began campaigning two years ago, but her hair will never be down her back. Malia’s hair, though, is long because she is 1/4 white.

Genetics is a big factor in how long one’s hair grows, it’s not just about taking care of your hair. If your hair grows very long, lucky you. But some women whose hair will never grow long want to have the option to wear weave; it’s nothing wrong with that.

I think many women who get straight weaves want that texture not because they worship whites but because straight hair is easier to deal with: You can just get up and go. No curling iron, no flat iron, no blow dryer.

I don’t have a weave (my hair is shoulder length) but I did have one for about six months a few years ago. I am thinking of getting it again because I recently started a business and don’t have much time to spend on my hair or at the salon. A weave will save me time and it means my hair will always be “done.”
