This is yet another example of Barack holding on to a person that he should not have. Obviously he believes this man’s rhetoric or he would not have remained a member of his church all of these years. There is nothing wrong with that for the average citizen, but one he knew he wanted to be a politician he should have distanced himself from this man and his church to ensure it couldn’t be used to alienate white voters.

I attended a wedding there and sat a few pews away from where the bride & groom. The preacher marrying them, never took his right eye off of me, looking live a devious fool the whole time giving those wedding vows.
NOW THAT I THINK ABOUT IT, WHERE’S OBAMA’S HEAD CHEERLEADERS – MONOTHEISTIC PROOF; LOVELY AND AMAZING, NITA AND SYDNEY? I CAN HARDLY WAIT TO READ THEIR FEEBLE SPIN/RESPONSE TO EXPLAIN OR RATIONALIZE THEIR FAKE SAVIOR’S JUDGEMENT ON THE COMPANY THAT HE KEEPS.
It’s really sad b/c people fail to realize that he would’ve been in either Sprinfield (as state senator) or D.C. (as U.S. senator) when quite a few of his speeches were made. I mean damn, Obama isn’t sitting up spewing hate. if any of you attend Black churches, you’ll know that they can get a little crunk. I’ve never heard one get as crunk as Rev. Wright, but dammit he didn’t lie! Church should be a tad bit more religious, but it is what it is. They didn’t play the teachings of McCain’s spiritual adviser over and over spewing his hatred of gays and lesbians and make McCain explain them. He didn’t get this backlash from his endorsement of John Hagee, who deplores the Catholic faith. He had the audacity to call it a w***** religion. WTF???? So all we can say is that just because one attends a church, does not mean that you have to agree with everything that they say. Unfortunately, this is not how this will play for Barack.

This whole thing is really *****ed up. We finally have a candidate that could represent the true light in which black americans wanted to be represented in.
For so long we have portrayed ourselves as gansta, hood rats and just plain ignorant.
We know that is not how it really is in the black community. For the most part I believe that black people have the highest moral value and work ethic.
So to the majority of black people, Obama represented the best qualities of all of us. I guess that is why is is disappointing to see his whole campaign be turned around by someone(the rev) that is just a minor figure in the scheme of things.
In defense of the Rev, he said some things that blacks have either said or felt in our own private circles.
I am quite sure that Obama was well aware of the Rev’s rhetoric. As a black man, he has had to deal with the bull***** that goes on in america.
I believe Obama could identify with the disenfranchised as well as the well to do. No matter black or white.
So I am hoping for the best in this situation.

What Rev. Wright said is what MANY AA’s think. I think his delivery could have been a bit more tone down, but I do not see anything wrong with what he said.
Barack is not responsible for what his pastor says, does, or acts. Many are accusing Barack of being racist when he is bi-racial himself. Does that mean that he hates his mom, step dad, sister, and other relatives that do not have african blood? I don’t think so.
Now, that Fox News, the Main Stream Media, and the rest of their pundits are using this to derail his campaign, has made me that much more deligent to support him.

First- If those are the feelings of that pastor, that is fine. He has the right and ability to speak how he feels. BUT- politics is not meant for the pulpit. This is where the problem lies. Churches and their leaders are supposed to stay out of the political realm, especially for tax reasons. This man should not be speaking of this on the pulpit.
Second- *****ody knows what it likes to be in anyone’s shoes. Blacks don’t know how it is to be Mexican, whites don’t know how to be black, and so on. So what? That is what this country is about. The different cultures and experiences that we all have. I agree- life can be harder for all minorities, NOT just blacks. And remember- women are considered minorities.
Third- I will gladly support either Hillary or Obama, whomever receives the nomination. But do not let us be fooled into thinking that because Obama is black, because he is a minority that we can all relate to him. He has led a PRIVILEGED life.
How many of you went to Columbia? How many of you graduated from Harvard? How many of you are attorneys? How many of you grew up on the beaches of Hawaii? Lived in Indonesia? Exactly.

What matters is that what the pastor said is going to be and should be viewed as radical and emotionally charged and will cause some voters to back away from Obama. Since Obama has remained a memeber at this church, it makes it seem like Obama is ok with this preacher’s views which is why this is bad for Obama. No politician needs to be *****ociated with someone making radical statements going off emotion only. Important decisions can’t be made of first thought and charged emotions. Obama might have slit his own wrists fooling with this man. I sure hope not but even I wonder what happened to preaching about luke, mathew, exodus, genesis? What on earth was he doing in church talking about one members business. He job is spiritual support period. What he is talking about on this video should have been reserved for a circle of friends.

Almost ever person I know under the age of 60 does not go to church on a regular basis. One of the problems in America is we place such great importance on church. I would bet Barrack is like most of us, go to church when you have to. Wouldn’t be surprised if thats how they all are. But we act like the King James thumpers are better then everyone else, and if you don’t go to church somethings wrong. If we let church be as casual as most people actually treat church, what this obvious moron said wouldn’t be a non-issue.

Here’s the deal. Wright’s been preaching for 30yrs. Fox news has gone over every recorded sermon of his they could get their hands on. Notice you only see the same 3 clips, One from 2001, 2003 and Dec 2007. Total time of the clips they show is less than 1 min. at 52 Sundays a year, times 30 yrs. you get 1,560 sermons. For sake of argument lets say his sermons are 30 mins long. Anybody thats been to church knows sermons can run an hr easy but I’m gonna stay conservative on that time. so 30mins per sermon times 1560 sermons equals 780hrs of sermons. So they’ve been looking into wright since Obama announced for president. And out of all that they found roughly a minute’s worth of objectionable material.
Have you ever had a conversation with Pastor Wright? Have you ever sat thru one of his FULL, UNEDITED sermons? Do you know how much positive things this man has done for not only the Afican American communities in Chicago, but ACROSS THE NATION? Did you know that there are quite a number of WHITE PEOPLE that are members of that church? Have you even read the programs this church has created to help the community?…

Today’s whites feel that since the civil rights movement of the 60’s gave Black Americans rights to live as “equals”, everything in the past (slavery, Jim Crow, etc.) is no longer a factor. I agree with your comment. I really think the media is trying to take and run with it because they are looking to take our eyes away from the biggest things going on. They would spend 1 minute saying that ten more troops died today, but will spend 5minutes talking about this preacher. I do think he went somewhat out of line, but this was years ago and is only being brought up because they are looking for ways to tie things with what Hillary’s homegirl said.

While I agree with some of your comment I think the last part of it wasn’t a good one calling him Priveledged. People always *****ume that because you are half white you are automatically priveledged. If Obama never talked about his mom I bet *****ody would’ve ever saw him as being half black. On any given day white people see him as purely black. They don’t stop and say “well I heard his mom was a white woman” And all of those things he has done as far as college and where he lived should inspire you. If some black people would do research they would notice that there are tons of scholarships available for Harvard and Columbia. There are grants you can write for to earn trips all around the world. Too many people just wanna sit back and be spoon fed and it doesn’t work like that. If you truly want something you need to go out and get it. Before I get to talking about Africans…(and not those who live on the continent–all of us, because we’re not all American.) Let’s take a look at Native Americans.
How would any of you feel if your land, culture, family, language, etc. was taken away from you? Oh yeah, many of us Blacks (although I’ve wasn’t born in “Blackland,” I’m not very comfortable with this entire thing yet) can relate.
For many Native Americans, turning to alcohol is just a result of the physical (Europeans brought a whole lot of disease!) and emotional (imagine someone coming into your home and putting you out on the porch and then celebrating their independence every July 4th) abuse they’ve been subjected to (and still are) by White Europeans and Americans.
Under-achieving is a result of someone cutting off your foot before the race of success even starts. Same thing goes for AAs who start either one mile back or without a leg. Wedon’t get a head start and sometimes we never make it. There are some of us who do.
But I’m not saying that we are the only people who are suffering, because there are some White Americans who haven’t succeeded at anything either. Although their situation at home may have been tough, outside of their home, people see fat, short, skinny, tall, or bald. They don’t just see White. When people see a Black man, all they see is Black.
Why is it so wrong to talk about the inequality that exists in America? Because when anyone says anything controversial, true, or that makes the vanillas look bad, it’s so wrong!
I prefer to back a candidate who’s real, recognizes and gives a ***** about the unfairness Black Americans face everyday, won’t disown his pastor after 20 years and is not afraid to talk about how we really feels about the treatment of Black Americans or as Sherman called us, “whiny *****s.”
***** like that is why Dr. Wright is preaching what he’s preaching. I for one won’t stay quiet when I’m really feeling something. If MLK did, all our *****es would be drinking from a whole ‘notha water fountain. Dr. Wright’s not separating us, we’re already separated. Sometimes physical, a lot of times it’s mental.

Me personally, I think the churches should record. It’s the Word. Christians are called to spread the Word, because the Word is Good. Good preaching makes folks feel good, and it may make a difference in someone’s life even if they couldn’t be there that particular service.
What I don’t believe is that churches should set a price on their recordings. They should ask for a donation, and you give what you can — just like real churches should be like the prosperity bull***** or the Mormons, who fine-tooth comb members tax returns in a wrong-headed spiritual pursuit for that tithe.
As for T D Jakes, I was through with him when I found out he was taking money from the Republicans in the name of Bush. He’s no better than those pastors who took money from the Clintons in order to propagandize in the Clintons name –
speaking of which, which of those pastors have had the IRS sicced on them?
This isn’t about justice secular or divine, what’s happening with Pastor Wright; it’s strictly a down low political move made by opponents who are trying to take down a rival, opponents who would probably give their eye teeth to be able to buy off this minister and his influence in the same way they have bought off other ministers.
I watched the videos and didn’t see anything wrong with what the pastor was saying. From what he was saying I don’t see any reason for Barack to have to distance himself from Wright. The news reports made it sound like Wright was some kind of hate monger until I actually listened to what he had to say. I think it’s all part of Clinton’s smear campaign. Back when she thought she had the nomination in the bag she kept he mouth shut. But once she realized that it wasn’t a sure thing anymore she went all out on the offensive with every dirty trick she and her minions could come up with.

A rant from a radical preacher? Without a doubt. Someone on the Obama campaign? Well, Sen. Obama says so. That’s the Scholars Translation of Luke 6:24-26, and the speaker is Jesus of Nazareth.
In the King James Version, the first part of Luke 6:24 reads “But woe unto you that are rich!” That comes off as quaint and a lot less shocking to modern ears — not the kind of preaching that nets you *****e on Fox News. But Jesus meant his words to be shocking. He meant them to strike against the status quo and shake up the comfortable.

That’s Jeremiah Wright.
Is the vision of a pastor standing in his pulpit shouting “God damn America” shocking? Yes. But don’t mistake Wright’s (or Jesus’) statement for what some drunk in a bar would mean using the same phrasing. Wright isn’t saying “FU America!” he’s saying “these actions of America are worthy of God’s condemnation.” He’s just saying it in a way that cuts through the Sunday morning sleepiness and makes people sit up in their pew.
From Gandhi to King, it’s in the nature of spiritual leaders to grab their audiences by the throat and their nations by the short hairs. This was true at the time of the Civil War and during the Civil Rights movement. Martyrs did not become martyrs by appealing to the status quo.
Don’t take this to mean that I agree with every word that Wright spoke (e.g. the United States did not create AIDS), but neither do I feel like his words require that “his church should lose it’s tax exempt status” that he’s a traitor, or that he’s an embarr*****ment to his church or to Senator Obama — all comments that have appeared on this site.
Do I think that 9/11 was the “chickens coming home to roost?” Yeah, I pretty much do. Of course the terrorists bear the personal responsibility for their actions and the deaths that resulted. But to pretend that decades of actions overseas had nothing to do with that terrible morning is far more delusional than anything said by Rev. Wright. If you jab a stick into a hornet’s nest and shake it for fifty years, the hornets might do the stinging, but you can’t blame only the hornets. Actions have consequences, and though we may pretend to both purity of motive and prescience about outcomes, the truth is that violence tends to generate violence in return. Or, as that radical I quoted above said “those who take up the sword, will die by the sword.”
The purpose of a good sermon isn’t to placate, ease, and make people comfortable. A dangerous religion isn’t one that challenges people and makes them squirm. Makes them angry. A dangerous religion is one that is too amicable to what you already think, one that pats you on the head and sends you forth in *****urance of your own righteousness. If you want to search for “traitors” in the pulpit, turn your eye toward those who never find anything wrong in the actions of this nation.
I understand why Senator Obama finds it necessary to distance himself from Rev. Wright. There were plenty of things in those sermons that I don’t agree with, and I’m suspect many of the ideas that grate on my nerves also strike the Senator as either wrong or unsustainable politically. These days, three isolated words on the news seem far more important than context or intent. But I wish he didn’t have to do so.
Because getting your personal beliefs regularly challenged, rather than reinforced, is important.

But when it’s good, it’s a joy to be able to spread it… it’s like having a book, but better.
I’ve only seen the tv cameras only follow the huge churches. I’ve never been inside a church where the tv cameras were. I’ve heard horror stories, though… including stories about a particular local congregation who was more concerned about p*****ing in front of the cameras (twice if possible) than in the message. Then again, their pastor was of the ‘manicures and hot tub’ variety. I was very happy when that church started losing members because it was no longer the ‘in’ place for the black status quo to see and be seen; it was a church for all the wrong reasons. So I feel you on that, Karen, and I can understand where you’re coming from now about the message and about the sacredness of worship. I hope they’ve toned down on that stuff, where you worship.
Pastors no longer visit congregations where you’re at anymore? That is a sin. When a good pastor was visiting, everybody would anti*****te it, back in the day. Like a godly rock star thing. And then after, everybody would chip in for the visiting pastor and his wife and to make sure he had something to eat that evening LOL right after the contributions for the home pastor and the church. The collection plate is a hell of a ‘love it/hate it’ statement. I always felt bad for the later collections, because I always felt folks would be tapped out too early… then again, I never really trusted that the money would be counted properly anyway. Oh well.

We were rewarded for our “stand” by people such as Congressman Jack Kemp, the Fords, Reagan and the Bush family. @ Nita…when I said most White people just see him as Black, I wasn’t sure if u agreed with me or not. As a mixed person and someone who has a lot of biracial friends, I do know some people wh feel like they are as Black as they are White. That is how they cl*****ify themselves. How other people view you is another thing.
When I asked why it is so wrong…it was more of a rhetorical question because it’s common sense that it has always been waaay too controversial to openly speak of our unfair treatment at the hand of Whites…after all, they control America.
The last issue you mentioned: I cannot vote. However, I am supporting Obama and I encourage those who can vote, to vote for him. I hope you did not get it twisted when I said I would prefer a candidate who sticks with his pastor thinking I meant Clinton or McCain. When I wrote that I did not realize that Obama had already distanced himself from Dr. Wright. As someone who is trying to become POTUS, I can understand why he did that. If that’s what it takes for him to accomplish his goal…which will change our lives remarkably…I am not mad at him for that.
I’m just the type of person who is a bit rebellious and would have stuck by him side. I do not disagree with anything Wright said in that very short clip.
Also, I know someone who recently went to Wright’s service in Chicago where he introduced a new pastor. She said that Wright never spoke like a bigot, hate monger or anything of that sort.
I may not agree with every single word that comes out of Obama’s mouth, but I am backing him and I am aware that he can’t please everyone. I hope that people who are upset over him distancing himself from Wright understand why and still continue to support him.
This is all way out of control. First of all, the things that the Pastor said in the pulpit was a more specific view of some blacks. Mainly the ones who are on the fringe of society. The views that Rev Wright preached about have been a topic of discussion in the inner most circles of the lower black community. I personally do not agree with the Rev and definitely would have had some questions for the pastor. At the same time, I believe that this could be a turning point in race relations in this country. To my white friends who are reading this, please don’t ever forget how the pulpit was used to validify slavery. Race and religion are woven in the fabric of this country. Why is it that in this day and age that the house of worship still remains the most segregated place in America? Go back and read your history on how the “black church” got started. Also go back and see how the church in the black community was used as a springboard for politial action. Go back to Ebenezer Baptist when Dr King, who was seen by the whites in that generation as a danger to the mainstream, delivered sermon after sermon concerning race and equality. While Rev Writes choice of words and delievery are very fiery, and might even sting a bit, they only sting to the ones who do not understand or would ever seek to understand the struggles of minorities in this country. Obama embodies the best and the worst of what this country represents. I believe it is time to move on from this topic, becasue it is becoming a none issue. I believe that the readers who were offended by this “hate speech” go down to Trinity with a mind and heart to worship God and get to know the struggles of the people who serve at that branch of Zion. This is a very complicated issue, but I believe that thru it all, we have an opportunity to truly and realistically evaluate race relations in this country. Try a little constructive discussion and your points may better received than staying on a lower level by calling individuals names behind your computer. Don’t you know people of color have dealt with people like you for years and our elders always taught us to pity people that act the way you do. People with self-respect and who understand the basic principles of life don’t try and degrade other races, they try and uplift beacuse this is one planet and we have to coexist to succeed.

If you haven’t already -listen to Obama’s speech he gave today. He talked about how this race baiting is a way of distracting poor whites and blacks from working together to change things. Over the last week or so we’ve stopped paying attention to the major issues. Who is all this benefitting definitely not the American voter. I’m young and black and I want to work together with Whites, Latinos, etc. to help as Obama said “perfect our union”. That’s why I support Obama.

I respect you and you always bring truth. In regard to Mormons and tithing. Although there is no public tax recording, Mormons have an oral culture where they make public through their Wards (Mormon church)who tithes what and that is how members compete for and are attributed favor and status. And although it is not Mormon PC to say so, a vast majority still believe in the Book of Mormon’s statement that black people are cursed by Caine, that dark skin is a curse. There is deeply internalized belief born of grave ignorance that white skin, features, and culture are superior.

Neo-*****/white supremacist Hal Turner elaborated further on his webcast last night (3/26/08) about his past friendship with Sean Hannity. His description remained consistent with that laid out by Max Blumenthal in The Nation. Turner acknowledged he had previously made some mistakes about dates in his blog post on the subject but insisted that the framework of their relationship was as he described it. Turner was obviously miffed that Hannity had denied knowing him. As part of the proof that they had been friends, Turner recited the “back door” phone number he used to get directly on the air on WABC radio. Turner also tried to blackmail Hannity by offering to sell copies of tapes of their conversations for $100,000 or the exclusive rights for $250,000. To show you just what kind of guy he is, I’ve included a sample of Turner plotting white supremacist attacks with one of his listeners. With audio
Turner started off his broadcast talking about moi: “A leftist, liberal, Marxist wench calling herself Ellen, who’s probably, like, an ugly old hag and more probably than not a JEW.”
Turner supposedly struggled with the idea of going public about his friendship with Hannity. Turner made up his mind after realizing that Sean Hannity is now “a suck up to the Jews.”
As proof of his friendship with Hannity, Turner gave out the “back door number” he used at WABC to get straight on the air. The number is 212-613-3850. We have checked it and confirmed that the number goes straight to the host. I’ve also been in contact with a former employee of WABC who confirmed that there is such a system there. How would Turner know if he had not used it?
Over the past several days, Turner said he had sifted through “the hours and hours and hours of calls that I have recorded of me being a caller to various talk shows… Anytime that I spoke with Sean Hannity off the air, like while I was waiting on hold and there was a commercial break on WABC and he picked up my line during the commercial break, I have those conversations on tape.”
“Are you ready, folks at News Hounds and Huffington Post (which also posted about Turner)?” Turner asked.
He made his offer: “I will make available all of the tape recordings I have of telephone conversations between me and Sean Hannity… if I receive by Tuesday, April 15, tax day, if I receive $100,000 in donations, I don’t care if it’s a dollar each from the people who read the story on Huffington Post… I will air or make available in tape or CD or via internet download, all the conversations that I had taped with Sean Hannity.”
Turner promised the tapes would be worth it. “In my view, some of this stuff is exactly what you guys are looking for. Yeah, ohhh. Some of it is, I think, priceless.”
For those who might be interested in protecting Hannity, Turner said, “In addition, for those of you are kind of like deep pocket folks, if the $100,000 doesn’t come in or if you want to make sure that you’re the only one who gets these tapes, I am willing to sell my ownership of the tape, my copyright as a parti*****nt in the tape and the broadcast rights to all these tapes for a quarter of a million dollars.”
Turner continued, “There’s an awful lot of you out there who really hate Sean Hannity, and there’s an awful lot of you who really love the guy and want to make sure that perhaps a faux pas in the past won’t trip up his career. Here’s your chance. No negotiating.”
Later in the “n” word-laden show, Ned, from Clearwater, Florida called “on behalf of the white nationalist community.” Ned said that he’s done egging and other pranks but wants to know what the next step is for white nationalists.
Turner told Ned that skinhead groups must tap the wisdom of the elders such as himself. “We know how to utilize the law. We know how to commit crimes and not get caught. It is such a waste of talent to do small things like egging businesses and breaking windows when a much better thing to do would be to, let’s say, I don’t know, hypothetically, beat the ***** out of a Congressman when he’s coming out of his office. Or grab up a federal judge or state judge and tune him up… Let guys like me point you in the right direction.”
Ned was thrilled with that advice. “Even if it’s just beating up a black guy. All of these skinheads are going to jail for no good reason. They should pick the best reason to go to jail.”
“That’s just it,” Turner said. I mean if I killed Daryle Lamont Jenkins from One People’s Project, they’re gonna put me in jail for the same amount of time as if I kill Frank Lautenberg, US Senator, so why not get the most bang for the buck. Now I’m not saying I’m gonna do either.”
Turner also helpfully suggested, “Wouldn’t it be better if they beat the ***** out of Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton?”
“That would be the best,” Ned agreed.
“Because those guys, they’re not always surrounded by thousands of people,” Turner said. They’ve got to come and go from places where they’re alone… Wouldn’t it be a real social statement if somebody grabbed that fat-***** Al Sharpton and knocked the living ***** out of him!”
Ned laughed
Turner continued, “While they were screaming ‘White power! White power! Sig Heil!’”
Ned laughed again. “This is stuff that really needs to go on,” he said.
There were similar threats made against Julian Bond as well as Morris Dees and Mark Potok of the Southern Poverty Law Center.
Last night, on Hannity & Colmes, Hannity challenged Obama to prove which of his pastor’s sermons he had heard or not heard by submitting a list of dates he had attended church. We again urge Hannity to prove his claim that he banned Turner because he was offended by his views by submitting audio of the call that so offended Hannity that he immediately banned Turner.
By the way, we’re pursuing a lead on another source of tapes of Turner’s calls to Hannity..

First of all I was all for Obama all the way, but after hearing this pastor I was very disapointed. I agree that people are entitled to speak there mind but that was not the place or tim to do it. I was not affected by rev. wright’s words from a racial aspect but more from a personal aspect. I one goes back and listen to his words he actually sounds happy that the whole 911 attacks happened. This hit me on a personal level since I like many other americans and New Yorkers lost love ones in the 911 attacks. Rev. wright has the audacity of using this as an example of punishment for white peoples bad deeds. Don’t forget that not only rich white people died in the 911 eleven attacks; other innocent people died as well. Shame on you Rev. wright….it is still too early for that.
