Christ himself was a student. There’s a big ass gap between the time he was 12 and the time he was 30, where he as all over the place learning, absorbing, discarding, growing to appreciate what he was and who he was to be.
It’s not a bad thing to be a student, you just have to put you studies to good use. I believe Christians *should* study other reliegions, because that’s the only way to truly appreciate what you have. That’s the one of the few things I actually managed to absorb from my own grandfather, who was a Baptist pastor, old time religion version.
Study is not the same as worship. But what does your pastor say?

That is a good point. “Study is not the same as worship” but true christians also know that the FOUNDATION of Christianity is the virgin birth, death by crucifixtion and the resurrection of Christ. If any other religion or person doesn’t believe or have faith in that then they do not truly know Jesus or believe in His teachings. Period. Any Christian that “studies” another religion, should do it with only one intention in mind. To discredit it against the Word of God. And I’ve already done that by simply stating the foundation of a true Chistians belief above. See, simple..
This story is old. Not everyone that hangs out with Tom Cruise is trying to be a Scientologist. Before Tom ‘jumped the couch’ on Oprah, he was friends with just about everyone in Hollywood. That means he was a likable guy. And judging by the money his films make, he still is a likable guy. No more, no less. He had/has the respect of a lot of people, men and women, black and white.

We already discussed Will & jada in full yesterday. Today is just all about Bossip’s sometimes sucky captions and the fact that some people in Hollywood’s denials are true and some are doing just that “denying.” I believe Will because I hate to have to try to explain myself to people over and over. But, like I said yesterday, Scientologists try to use rich, influential Blacks to target the Black community. I hope Will doesn’t give in…or Jada. I love them as a couple. They have a beautiful family and it’s all because of the grace of God.
Also, I think what Bossip was saying about the all black was not that anyone who wears all black clothing is a scientologist, but that’s what scientologists tend to wear and the Smiths, who are already being accused, do lunch with the Cruises wearing the same shit.
I googled scientologists wearing all black and it seems like Bossip isn’t crazy. But for some reason, I’m remembering the Smiths wearing black a lot…not since the rumors. Who knows!
BTW, I was baptised Anglican. My grandfather is a Pentecostal pastor. My mother was baptised Catholic and I went to Catholic school for junior high. I attended Lutheran church for years and did communion and confirmation class there. My father is a Rastafarian. My best friend’s father was a Muslim.
For the sake of truly understanding religion and having sincere beliefs, I study religion…while never forgetting God’s place in my life. I make it my business to know what Islam is all about. If I know nothing of Atheism, how would I know to stay the fuck away from it? LOL…i had to throw that in.
I will never stray away from God and I pray to Him and Him only.
I can see where Will is coming from, because with famous friends from every religion, curiousity or to learn new things may have made him try to understand…not worship.

What difference does it make? Who cares? It would be ignorant for one not to study all religions. Learning about different religions doesnt make you less Christian, or in doubt of your own religion. It makes you an informed indvidual and if more people were like that there would be less wars in the world. More people were killed because of religion than anything else in the history of the world. Unlike Tom Cruise, Will Smith knows his audience. He recognizes the bad press Scientology gets and knows that to align with that group is to flush his career down the toilet. Too bad Cruise didn’t learn that lesson.

I said something earlier about being happy about Will’s religious status, and the fact that he needs to come on a little stronger to be more compelling, but now I have to take it back.

@tlatrice, htown is right about studying with the intent to discredit. that reasoning is why certain folks ask you NOT to study, because a lot of times you end up discrediting the very thing you sought to uplift in the first place. so it’s easier just to discourage scholarship than to deal with legions of exes… nevermind that scholarship has the potential to make faith stronger.

You cannot possibly speak for ALL Christians. So how do you know what a Christian would do? All you know is what YOU would do. And just because he does something that you wouldn’t doesn’t negate the fact that if he believes in and accepts the finished work of that Jesus Christ on Calvary, he’s saved.

It Is Right To Practice Biblical Judgment?
One of the most misused verses in the Bible is, “Judge not, that ye be not judged.” (Matthew 7:1). Every Scripture verse should be read in its context, if we are to properly understand the true meaning. In vs.2-5 of this same chapter it is evident that v.1 is referring to hypocritical judgment. A brother who has a beam in his own eye should not be judging the brother who may have a mote in his eye. The lesson is plain, you cannot judge another for his sin if you are guilty of the same sin.
Those who cling to “Judge not, that ye be not judged,” to condemn those who expose error should read the entire chapter. Jesus said, “Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing…” (v.15). How can we know false prophets unless we judge them by the Word of God? If we know the false prophets, how can we fail to warn the sheep of these “ravening wolves?” All through the Bible we find proof that they should be identified and exposed.
“Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit” (vs.16,17). Did the Lord mean that we could not judge the tree (person), by the fruit of their life and doctrine? Certainly not, for you cannot know without judging. All judgment should be on the basis of Bible teaching, not according to whims or prejudices.
“Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.” (John 7:24). Here our Lord commands that we are to “judge righteous judgment,” which is judgment based upon the Word of God. If judgment is made upon any other basis, other than the Word of God, it is a violation of Matt. 7:1. Webster’s Dictionary says that a judge is “one who declares the law.” The faithful Christian must discern of judge on the basis of God’s inspired law, the Bible.
A fornicator is described in 1st Corinthians 5:1-13. Paul “judged” (v.3) the man even though he was absent, and he told the Church at Corinth that they were to “judge” (v.12) those that were within. The Greek word for “judge” is the same here as in Matthew 7:1. Paul did not violate “judge not, that ye be not judged,” in judging the man, nor in instructing the Church to judge also. All of this judgment was according to the Word of God.
A person who is able to discern between good and evil, has at least one of the major marks of spiritual maturity. “But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.” (Hebrews 5:14). W.E. vine says of the meaning of discern, “a distinguishing, a clear discrimination, discerning, judging; is translated ‘discerning’ in 1st Corinthians 12:10 of discerning spirits, judging by evidence whether they are evil or of God.” Strong also agrees that it means to judge.
Those who are unwilling or incapable of discerning or judging between good and evil are in this manner revealing either their disobedience or their immaturity.

Honestly..Jada is from baltimore like me and so are her ppl..her mom Adrienne..is a christian and she knows her momma wouldnt have her being nothing but..Jada and Will are Christians!!!

i understand about judgement and discernment, but you don’t know The Smiths well enough to make the judgements that you’re making. You’re going by things that don’t in and of themselves define the totality of these people and therefore are in no position to judge them and say that they’re not Christians.

Today, the term Christian is being used for virtually anything. According to the Christian Doctorine, it’s not blasphemy to respect all people. Obviously Christ taught that we need to respect everyone because we are all created in his image. The possibly dangerous part of this statement is “… i respect all paths.” Now i’m also a student of religion so I realize not “all paths” lead to God because not all religions even believe in a God; they’re too different.
That belief leads to pluralism which is the acceptance of all religous beliefs as true. However, this belief violates a logical principle called “the law of nocontradiction.” This states, using an analogy, that according to our experiences, something is either true or false. If a Christian believes that God exists but an atheist says God doesn’t exist, one of them has to be right. There are no ways out of it, either He exists or He doesn’t. Someone is right and the other has to be wrong. Either a car is red or it’s blue, it can’t be both fully red and fully blue.
In a nutshell, we should always respect people’s beliefs (even tom’s) but we do so without compromising our own beliefs (that is the non dangerous part of the statement).
If Will Smith wasn’t a Christian then why would he turn certain rolls down? I don’t like some of the movies he was in but we all do things that other people aren’t going to like.
To the young women who claims that “white” Chritianity is the cause of these problems she lists I would like to suggestthat maybe you do some research on the faith and human history in general. YESHUA, the Word of God did not come for white people, proof of this could be noticed in the fact that the only faith in the world that consists of every race and nationality IS christianity. African slaves were introduced for the most part to christianity and were not muslims. And that faith gave strength and hope to a people who had seemingly none. Because of the love conveyed through the Word of the Bible. Do not judge The Faith based on some false teachers in the church in these last days because Jesus himself warned us that they would come. Love is the only way to win lost brothers and sisters from the lies of Islam, polytheistic and NewAge movements. I for my own understanding have delved deep into the religons of our world and have seen the contradictory messages in them all. Yet by the grace of our God the Truth that has been revealed to the Jewish people and our early church fathers is the only Truth there is. Please dont dismiss me as a close minded religious nut, i dont consider myself religous at all. God has just allowed me to see what i never had, what is really happening around us. Muhammed was a deeply disturbed man who was thought by everyone who knew him to be affected by demons and even admits in the Koran that he accidently wrote words given to him by Satan and he thought they were from God. Google it. The Devil is real and he wants nothing more than for you to think that he is not. Heaven is the easy part, beleive Jesus redeems you through his sacrifice and that he and God are One ask him for forgivness and you will recieve it. The hard part is telling others once youve felt his true love. I would never have wrote this to you a year ago but I now feel obligated that it may reach even one person. Everytime we speak openly about Our Lord I beleive we chip away at teh Evil One’s grip on our lives. May All who read these words come to know salvation in Christ. Yeshua Ha Mashiach our Saviour and Lord. And just for the record Obama is the man, and I pray for his saftey and that he gives us back our country!!!
