kelis and new baby copy

Kelis is pictured here out in Soho, because now she deserves the privilege to shop like she is balling out of control. Miss Bossy was cheesing, taking pictures, and more or less acting like she came up, or it could just be that motherly glow. Is it too early to be out with Knight Jones for photo ops?

Pop it for another…

  • Detroit love

Yes!!! it is to soon to be out. These young women do not see the trauma they put on there bodies when the are out in heels and exposed to the world. This is not back in the B.C DAYS. When there were not alot of germs and things flying through the air. Young women take better care of your self and R.E.S.P.E.C.T Your self. Stop tring to let money get you , You are to get the money. The honest way. This looks bad on here. Kelis pray.. and hear the lord.

  • DCC

I don’t have a baby so I don’t know. I’ve heard from older folks that you shouldn’t take the babies (or yourself) out before 2 weeks but hey, that’s her and her baby.

  • justtrynakeepitreeel

She looks like a typical hoodrat!! Babies are not up for display it has nothing to do with what year it is morals never go out of style every new mom knows you stay in he house with your new baby until you regain your strength but AMERICANS have no culture!!! She should be home nursing!!!!!!!!!!! I think she wants to show off her new meal ticket.

  • JoJo

I see she gained some weight from baby. Hope she can drop that. But I think its fine for her to walk around with baby long as weather is permitting.

  • http://www.myspace.com/musicman2486 L bka Mrs. Philly-(6am’s one and only…I will FIGHT for mines!! LOL )

I would like someone to show me the “rule” that says you HAVE to be cooped up in the house for 2weeks after having a baby in JULY! LOL…ridiculous…

  • Arthur

Damn Kelis. She must be proud of her work

  • Nick In ATL

Yes its too early to be out if you lookin’ a fat azz mess. Sorry Kelis- and I do like Kelis. But get about 30 pounds off first, and come out lookin’ fab. Not exceptable. Lookin’ like a str8 average chick- not a star!

  • mz. b

It used to be inappropriate to take a baby outside the house within 30days of giving birth, but people dont give a f*ck bout anything anymore so they expose children to all types of craziness, prolly the reason why so many kids these days are crazy.

  • NIKIKI UNDERWOOD

    1908? LOL!! That was a random number….

  • Man, I just dont care™

    1908… must be an AKA.

  • The Consigliere

She out spending her pros.titution money. SMH.

  • COME ON

Love her and naz both but, the appeal is on it’s way and we all Nas will win his appeal. You don’t need 55,000 a month to take care of an infant, you might need 55,00 to take care of kelis ,& infant and her lifestyle, enjoy it will it last Kelis.

  • PRPPLE, just call me TADOW

WOW…6weeks?? LOL!! Listen hunny… 6 DAYS will drive you crazy in the house and be enough to give you post-pardum depression….

  • Poked in the Morning…

way to soon for her to be out with a newborn.

I don’t understand some women. Once this woman was out shopping and she gave birth the day before!!

Stay home and nurse baby! this is not the time to want to take a photo op.

Unless she wants magazines to ask for the pics of her baby?

  • Chi Town Gurl

It is too early for her to be out and to have him out. I wish them the best! I bet he’s a cutie just like his father.

Too early for photo-ops…..I understand wanting to get out of the house, but she could have kept it on the low…….

  • Alicia

I think she looks very happy and she is brave to be out looking a mess like that lol! but that just shows how down to earth she is. Alot of women dont stay in the house like that anymore, especially in the summertime.

  • Redd Foxxx(Pretty Wings)

  • Chawklitgirl

Personally for me, it wasn’t until the 6wk check up before I strolled the streets. A quick run to the store for pampers or something like that, that’s it!

  • Redd Foxxx(Pretty Wings)

    *They are more susceptible*

  • Layla

The 6 week rule is for sex, not to go out. I mean I was up and running within 5 days after having my baby. Of course I did not take the baby out until he was 2 weeks old and that was only because I had to.

  • Slide Like A Fresh Pair of Gators

  • tg

If she feels good and able to get around – that’s on her. She probably needs a few things – nothing wrong with that.

  • Jade Silver

@ L bka Mrs Philly… I think it’s a bit early. In my culture you have the baby is not allowed to leave the house within the first 3 months. No one outside the immediate family is allowed to see the baby in the first 30 days. It’s harsh but I enjoyed not having people there annoying me.

  • Slide Like A Fresh Pair of Gators

Are you STILL breastfeeding in public???

or did you stop whipping your tatas out for the world to see while you give your daughter some nourishment?

ME TOO and COSIGN!!! I will NOT DARE bring my baby out the first few months of their lives. Sorry not I. No disrespect to those that do, but same way in our culture/family. We don’t bring our babies outside that early.

Yesterday I saw this chick out in Manhattan (white) with a carrier on her chest. I was like WTF does she have a carrier for, there’s nothing in it? LAWD have MERCY! When I got closer I saw the tiniest little leg sticking out, like a premie baby. The baby was so tiny it couldn’t even fir properly in the carrier. I could’ve slapped her!

Good Morning Mrs. South Africa :-)

And I’m with that = not taking the baby out soo soon… 3 months is a bit too long in my opinion (*no disrespect to you or your culture) but I agree with the overall thought & reasoning behind it…

  • Redd Foxxx(Pretty Wings)

    WHOA!!!!!! What Up MA’????

  • Jade Silver

@ Whoa… Hey girl. Yeah those poor babies always look sad. It’s fine for you to go out but leave the baby at home. A baby should feel secure in a peaceful safe environment. It’s already a shock enough for them to be outside the comfort of the womb. IMO.

  • And One More Thing…

It is a new mother taking her baby out, there are no rules, but just cause its Kelis we all have something to say about it.
I REALLY hope she gets back to making songs now, i LOVED her song Get along with YOU

    @Jade…

Well here in America we do things a bit less traditional and more independent.

  • Sanjor’s Tomboy Princess

I guess I’m a little bit old fashioned. I didn’t go outside with my children for six weeks and after their doctors appt. I know the six week rule is for sex, but I wanted to heal properly and I didn’t want to expose my kids to everything and everyone right away. I did allow a few people to come over though.

  • Redd Foxxx(Pretty Wings)

    @ Whao

I have to come up with a name for you!!! You are killin me LMAO!! Yes I’m ready!!! What about you???

  • Jade Silver

@ Slide… Good Morning. Yeah 3 months is long but the reasoning behind it is that the child may be overpowered by other spirits because they are not strong enough. You are stepping on the footmarks of people you don’t know where they’ve been. So the ambilical cord of the child has to fall off and they need to be able to hold their neck up.

  • Poked in the Morning…

    @ Whoa!

    Im telling you!!

There was this woman at Borders shopping and her baby was the tiniest. She said that she gave birth the day before!!

is that the modern woman? careless is what I call it

  • Alrighty Then…

depending on the birth, stitches, etc. She could have a setback, which is EXTREMELY painful, and in most cases worse than labor. Even the pressure of being on your feet too long can cause trauma and stress to your uterus.
Not to mention, while it’s never “too early” to take your baby out, a newborn is susceptible to EVERY LITTLE THING on the wind, colds, viruses, germs, etc. It’s not a good idea to have little Knight out so early. Not to mention, folks are going to be even more like “oh, let me see the baby” because of who she is. I was selective about family germs being all around my baby, let alone strangers.
She should give herself some time. if she wants air, sit on the porch.

Exactly. I don’t have any kids yet, but I feel so sorry for babies whose mothers just throw them into these adult/loud environments. They still have to get accustomed to these new sounds, smells, tye air around them. I;ve seen newborns at cookouts. Poor things getting their little eardrums blown the hell out. I want my child to stay in a peaceful and quiet place.

Gotta prepare my bank account for a nanny

  • Midwives against silliness

    Ignorance is deadly.

Babies are exposed to nothing but germs in a hospital.

There is no rule or medical reason that requires a baby to be home or away from the outside world for weeks or even months.

Babies are stimulated by sound, sights and noise, so being out of the house from day one is good for them.

Babies who are exposed to sights and sounds during the day, learn to distinguish day from nite and fall into a normal sleep pattern SOONER rather than LATER.

The quicker new MOMS get on their feet and moving around the quicker their BODIES heal: vaginally, physically and mentally. Walking lessens the chance of POST PARTUM DEPRESSION and helps prevent that feeling of isolation that happens when you are sitting at home with a newborn.

And yes- I am a midwife, with education to support my info. This is not based on wives tales, cultural preferences or he said/she said.

  • http://www.myspace.com/musicman2486 L bka Mrs. Philly-(6am’s one and only…I will FIGHT for mines!! LOL )

    @Slide…

What kind of daddy will you be? WIll you let the baby go out early? What if your future wife says she watns to go out and is not taking no for an answer will you let her or will you stay home with the baby so she can go out??

  • Redd Foxxx(Pretty Wings)

    @ Whoa

What did you do last night huh????

@Poked – It’s modern for women here. Not knocking them because I can’t tell them to do with their child and it’s not like just because they take their child outside “early” that something terrible is going to happen to them. But like Jade said, it’s a health issue, and a spiritual thing as well. You don’t want people “placing their hands” on your child if you get what I mean.

    Cosign this!!

  • http://bossip Whoa! aka Toot-it-up!

@Jade – yea I needs me a nanny if and when that time comes. I don’t even want my baby in daycare. Yea that’s a bit extreme but I’m gonna do what I gotta do (bank) so we can do that.

  • Sheeeet!!

Thank goodness both Kelis and her baby are healthy. What if the baby was not healthy and in an incubator? Are you saying she shouldn’t go visit her baby at the hospital and stay home for 2 weeks until she “closes up” or whatever the term you used was? Give the woman a break! As long as they are both healthy, I don’t see why they need to hibernate! How else is this baby going to build up his immune system? At home? I don’t think so! Go on, Kelis!! Congratulations!

  • Jade Silver

@ Midwives… That’s good to know but some of us still have to adhere to culture. We know better but the elders will force you to do it.

  • 504 Girl

Newborns are supposed to be indoors at least 2 weeks and NOT exposed to the elements because their immune systems are not strong enough to handle all the airborne germs and viruses, that is one of the main reasons women are asked to nurse their babies. She is wrong for that; if she is nursing…why did she dye her hair? She is just doing this to flaunt and front because she got a big payout that she didn’t deserve. For that baby’s sake I hope he doesn’t get sick…if so and I were Nas…I’d fight for custody because already she is showing that it’s more important for her to show Nas up than to take care of her baby. Some women can be so dumb!!

  • http://BOSSIPP @Redd Foxx

I know, that rule is stated in the Bible that you need weeks of healing. So she need to go sit down.

  • Slide Like A Fresh Pair of Gators

    Ok, Ok…

And plus a baby’s immune system is not strong enough to deal with the toxins, diseases, germs, etc…

I understand and I actually like that part about spirits, I believe in that stuff… One of my old bosses was possessed by the “a$$hole spirit” = I’m 100% sure of that…

Oh yeah, for your info. here in the states the vast majority of people don’t have nannies… So when you say that I know people are like = “what”? But I remember you’re doing well for yourself over there doing finance stuff… Keep up the good work and keep on representing us well over there :-)

  • http://bossip Whoa! aka Toot-it-up!

    @Midwives against silliness

Ok you’re a midwife…AND? You are entitled to your opinion on what you’ve been trained and learned and that’s cool. I STILL wouldn’t take my child out for the first few months of their lives. I can dismiss your “educated opinion” just like you dismissed these “wives tales” of ours. That’s your business but to call it ignoranmce it ignorant of you.

My bad for gradually wanting my future child to get used to things, not FORCING it on them. You probably got toddlers filling out job applications huh? If they’re walking they’re ready for the world. SMDH

    —————————————————
But you need to check the nanny out first cos some of them are just full of BS and will leave you hanging. The nanny I had left when my son was 11 months on a thursday morning no explanation. I just put my son in daycare and moved on. I’m looking for another nanny now that I’ve got another one on the way, but the creche was my son is is so good that I might just send this one there at 4 months. LOL. Hope it doesn’t get to that though.

  • Midwives against silliness

Newborn babies are not more suspectible to airborn diseases than anyone else.

The umbilical cord HAS nothing to do with them catching cold or anything else for that matter.

There are more germs and bacteria in the hospital than anywhere else in life, PERIOD.

Getting active immediately after birth- strengthens the Vagina, lessens the bleeding and helps the body bounce back into shape.

The 6 week rule b4 sexual contact is really about lessening the chance of vaginal infection while the vagina is regrowing it’s thick layer of skin. So walking around in the “AIR” does not increase the chance of vaginal infection. That same vagina is exposed to air in the house!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Jade Silver

@ Slide… LMAO at your possessed boss.

Actually, help is pretty cheap around here. The average wage for helpers is around R 1,200 p/m which converted to dollars is $ 120.00 p/m.

  • Midwives against silliness

    @ Whoa Toot it Up

I presented Scientific Facts and you come back with such info as “having toddlers fill out job apps”?

Bottom line- what you decide to do with your child is your business but making a judgement call on what you think is “TOO SOON” based on old wives tales isn’t really fair to Kelis or anyone else.

Just like you are going to do what you want based on YOU, Maybe Kelis decided to do what she wants BASED on HER RESEARCH and some sound MEDICAL KNOWLEDGE.

Also back to Toodlers filling out job applications- Please do research on the facts. the more toodlers are EXPOSED to EARLY in life the more successful they will be in EVERY AREA. What we think of as WORK is FUN to Toodlers.

The noise alone is too much on the babies ears.

  • 1TruDiva w/the PlatinumVocals—Pimpin, Platinum style!!! J-Hud’s concert was OFF THE MEAT RACK!!!!!!!!!

I’d say she should’ve waited awhile before bringing the baby out just for the simple fact of the viruses and diseases that they can be exposed to.

Shoot- for $55,000.00 a month–where’s that baby’s Michael Jackson mask?

    I will be a good Dad/Father…

I’ve been practing and f*cking up with my nieces & nephews…

No, I will not let my baby go out and be exposed to all of those toxins, germs and diseases so soon… Whatever the doctor recommended time is I’ll adhere to it and do research myself to see what it is and go by it…

All women are crazy but I don’t deal with women that don’t have any sense and so my future wife will have good sense and will not go out before the appropriate time or she will be slick enough to sneak out while I’m out and come back before I do…

I have no problem playing Mr. Mom, it’s a lot of fun minus changing diapers…

  • Midwives against silliness

A babies immune system IS STRONG ENOUGH to deal with the day to day cold viruses and things of that nature only PREMATURE BABIES are more susceptible and that is why they stay in the hospital.

People- once your baby is given the ok to leave the hospital, then your child is ok to be in the general public. Bottom line babies are going to be exposed to germs just like you are and keeping them home and away from people does not stop that. Getting a cold, running fevers is GOING to happen to babies, no matter what. For every virus introduced the body starts to build a defense, such is the way of life.

Babies caught colds B4 antibacterial hand gel, Babies still catch colds and even when we are living on Mars in space suits all babies will catch colds.

    ————————————————–
And this is why reading is FUNDAMENTAL. I didn’t make any judgement call. If you had of read slowly instead of skimming my comment, you would’ve seen where I said “no disrespect to those that do” bring their babies out early. I also said in another statement that “I didn’t think anything terrible would happen to them if they did come out early”.

At the end of the day I don’t have a say-so in how someone else takes care of their newborn. But to my cultural beliefs and understanding, I PREFER it done for MINE (get it, M-I-N-E) THAT WAY. Okay?

I tok nursing years ago, I know all about what you’re saying and I’m not denying it. I’m saying what I (get it, I) PREFER.

Either way the child will be fine. You called our way “old wives tales”. Well I guess you have “scientific” evidence that our old wives tales actually hurt those babies. Take a chill pill miss and let kids be kids. Have a BLESSED day.

Thank you for your input. Let’s move on.

  • Jade Silver

@ Whoa… I also wanted my mom to help out but she’s now living it up (67years old and all). All her kids are finally out the house and she’s having fun. So, yeah stack up that nanny money because being with the baby all the time will drive you crazy. LOL.

  • 1TruDiva w/the PlatinumVocals—Pimpin, Platinum style!!! J-Hud’s concert was OFF THE MEAT RACK!!!!!!!!!

Kelis may be a proud mother and all and I’m not one to rain on her parade yet I get the feeling that maybe, just maybe……she should sort of fall back just a bit.

I mean—she won!!!! The baby is her meal ticket for the next…whatever.

I swear–couldn’t no mother have been more proud than me but Soho, NEW YORK??????

All the crazies out there? Does the thought of kidnapping come to mind?

    Damn!

  • The Best

She is still tacky. My grandmother would have a fit if a mother was out this soon after having a baby. Anyway- glad she looks happy- but that does NOT look like a $3K stroller. .doesn’t even look like a $300 stroller. If she is blowin her child support on BS instead of putting it away for the baby & getting on her feet, she needs to be shot.

I responded to you only because you responded to me to start. I listed nothing but facts in my very first post, you took it there by getting offended and offensive.

Do what you want with your child. And if the old wives tales work for you, then when your child is sick Take them to a witch doctor rather than an MD and it should work out well, LOL!

  • Jade Silver

@ Midwives… Some things cannot be explained by science and that’s why culture and tradition will be there and has been there for centuries.
My dad is an OB/Gyn so I know all about the science of babies. Even he has to let certain things happen and even though he thinks it’s silly, he has to respect traditions.

  • Slide Like A Fresh Pair of Gators

The 6 week rule b4 sexual contact is really about lessening the chance of vaginal infection while the vagina is regrowing it’s thick layer of skin.

  • Midwife my arse

just because your baby can SURVIVE a cold or flu, (which kills babies and elderly every yr), viruses, etc – WHY in the world would you want a baby of a few days old exposed to that?
If babies have fully functional immune systems, why is it that the mortality rate is SO MUCH higher for infants in EVERY category of viruses and infection? BECAUSE THEY CAN’T FIGHT IT LIKE AN ADULT!

Everyone knows you build immunity as you age by being exposed to things. Not cool when you are 4 days old and live in the age of bird and swine flu. Now wives tales here, just fact.

    —————————————————
My baby had colic. I never heard that. Anyway, colic is caused by the gas in the stomach. That’s why if you are breastfeeding you shouldn’t eat gas inducing foods like onions and beans. LOL. I’ll find out more though.

  • http://BOSSIPP tia

  • Midwives against silliness

@ Slide like a Fresh Pair of Gators:

Well the same thing happens every mnth when your girl has her period…the layer of skin sheds during her cycle and all thru out the month her body is regrowing that thick layer of skin..the difference in having a baby is that the cervical opening at the very top of her vaginal canal is still partially open and that also increases the chance of infection.

Now instead of just jerking off- you can help your lady heal faster by : massaging her abdomen, massaging her breasts as both of these actions will stimulate deep womb tissue to contract and close sooner and increase blood flow to her uterus.

  • Midwives against silliness

    At Midwife my ARSE-
How does your OPINION negate the fact that HOSPITALS are FULL of the DEADLIEST VIRUSES, FLUs, FLESH EATING BACTERIAS that can’t be killed with Bleach, Antibacterials and all of that but the New born babies make it alive from the hospital EVERY DAY.

People can believe and do what they want, but babies are exposed to viruses, germs and toxins from the moment they are born and in the highest concentration in the hospital and they do just fine.

It is what it is. Knight Jones will be alive after being “exposed” to the AIR OUTSIDE.

    ___________

@Midwives against silliness- Your advice reminds me of why you are a Midwife and not a Doctor. Dismissing remedys that have been around for years or should I say discounting remedys. You only know what you were taught and if you weren’t taught certain things how can you elaborate on them. Instead you just dismiss thaem because they are not withen your realm. By the way Midwives are lower on the totem pole than Chiropractors, way lower.

  • John Hope Franklin (i need another beer….)

    1. if kelis is nursing (i.e. maternal milk)-then the baby is ok. maternal antibodies go to infants immune system. Newborns dont have memory in their immune system until 6 months of age which is why they get booster shots every 2 months.

    2. if she had a vaginal delivery then she is encouraged to have some activity vs. a c/section which generally requires more rest.

    3. no comment on personal appearances and $1k strollers and shit…

    @ Rrrrrroe Ski Love

Dr’s only know what they were taught and that goes for ALL PROFESSIONS and ALL JOBS.

I guess DR’s are always correct and never do anything wrong- So that is why their MALPRACTICE RATES are in the MILLIONS.

Dr’s do not follow natural remedies or midwives tales either- so what insults do you have for DR’s?

A lot of people put stock in Dr’s over Nurses, Midwives and the like but does that make me and my job any less significant, No.

Anyone in the medical profession knows that ALL the WORK is done by the NURSES, MEDICAL ASSISTANTS and the MIDWIVES—-the DR comes in midway during the DELIVERY but I guess you are a DR and you know that?

The DR comes in and gets all the info on vital stats from guess who: The NURSES, THE MIDWIVES and the DR makes a decision based on that info.

You can try to throw salt on me but I am successful, make a very good living and your opinion means NADA to me.

    @eveinthegarden

See are right, You was rasied RIGHT! A womens body is open for any type of disease, Giving birth is a serious procedure! Giving birth is the closes thing to death! Mothers give your body timeout after birth!

  • RiRi

Maybe I’m naive about the true motives of celebrities, but I assume that Kelis just thought that it was a beautiful day and she and the baby would go for a walk.

Instead she set off a storm of judgment about her physical appearance, the healing of her birth canal and her potential for breastfeeding, her choice of stroller, whether she can be a good mother for exposing her newborn son to germs/strangers/sights and sounds/paparazzi, her newborn son as a pawn in her divorce settlement, her desire for attention/publicity, her purported greediness.

I don’t care about how your grandmother, my grandmother, or Halle Berry spent their first several post-partum weeks. And I bet Kelis doesn’t, either. That’s why you’ll probably see her again soon, in another shot–cheesing on a busy New York street, with blue hair and an outfit you wouldn’t wear, with a baby you say you would leave at home, pushing a stroller you think looks cheap–living her life.

    Go ‘head, girl.

    I wonder….

I enjoy how everyone is fiercley protective over what’s best for a baby. I wish that same excitement, love and protection would last throughout the child’s life. I’m making this statement in general. We got some messed up kids running around.

i.e. we warm bottles and test them to make sure they don’t burn baby’s mouth. But will throw them a chicken leg at 2 and not even think twice about them choking on a bone.

  • Babegyrl™

Back in the day, it was that a mother and baby did little or no traveling or having visitors for six weeks….. It was so the mom and baby could bond, contrary to popular belief, maternal instinct is not instantanious (sp). Also a women is considered to be “open” and that time frame was so she could “Heal”. It’s a known fact that you heal slower on the inside than the out, and even tho you may be feeling better, your body is still going thru the process
