It has been in the news for quite some time now. Google it. I’m sure you’ll fing some things about it. Even last month, the great Vivienne Westwood, probably the most famous and well respected female designer (she’s white), said that magazine editors are actually quite racist. They refuse to put black models on their covers or even use them in ads, no matter how good they are. There were more black models being used in the 80′s and 90′s than there are now, yet we’re supposed to be making progress? Give me a break.

When asked, most mag editors said the same thing. If u put a black or other ethnic minority woman on the cover, white women WILL NOT BUY IT. The same reason Renee Goldsberry’s character ‘Evangeline’ in the soap opera ‘One Life To Live’, and Sanaa Lathans character in Nip/tuck in season4 four where cancelld, even thoug she had already signed uo for season five. The predominantly white femle viweres were angry that these black women were paired with good looking, white male actors. Even when the love interest is a black guy, most yt chicks still say that they just don’t want to see black women on their screens/magazines etc. The only time u never hear a complaint is if the sista is of average looks and/or she has no love interest. And she had better be playing the role of BFF to some white chick.

If u all think I’m lying, look it up. You’ll be surprised. Afterall, why do u thick that so called ‘black films’ never do well, unless its Big Mommas house or Norbit or the Madea films. @cuz there is a group of peope out there that enjoys seeing black women portrayed in a negative light.

No, I’m not in fashion, atleast not officially. I’m a student in Britain and a very crazy fashion fanatic. It is quite known that when a black model wants to hit it big (or bigger), she leaves france and heads to either New York or Milan. London, never even an option. However, that is probably the only proffession that black males have it just as hard. Males in general, have it harder than females do in fashion. Howevere, alot of the black males are told that they are ‘not good-looking enough’. Those that are, are sometimes told ‘just go play basketball’ (too tall) or ‘become an actor’ (too short), or u aren’t what we’re looking for (too masculine, not masculine enough, not good-looking enough).

People used to think that it was because they wanted she-men, but then they’d hire very masculine yt dudes. It turned out that many of the fashion folks just thought that black men were not good looking enough, but they’d give any other reason, ‘cuz they didn’t want to sound racist.

Even now, most of the black female models are of african origin, whether west, east, north or south african. And I’m an african, yet I think itskinda ridiculous. Nowadays, as always, the exotic black woman is always what they prefer. Iman (african), Naomi (Jamaican with some ancient chinese), Chanel Iman (her mom is part asian), Liya Kebede (african). Even the up and coming Jourdan Dunn (jamaican, and originally, they thought she was african). U’ll struggle to find an af-american supermodel.

However, for latinos, they say that the are usually average height with too wide hips (note: there is a difference between hips and ass), and for the asian ones, bloody hell, where do I start: Too short legs or too short in general (the most famous asian model is half white and is the shortest supermodel in the world at 5′ 6″), not good looking in the ‘correct way’ (read: not white enough). flat frames (even though they’d hire blonde white girls with flat chests), etc.

We have a VERY long way to go. And any time an af-american complains that africans have a different ‘look’ so are usually considered as exotic enough to use, I just shake my head and think: Ur only giving them more excuses to not employ u.

In america, black women spent approx. $20 billion annually on high end goods and cosmetics, more than latino and asian women combined. That is THE ONLY reason that they have decided to start using black models again. Sistas, vote with your pocket!

oh and it is true that there is a cultural barrier between african american and african but that is not a reason to avoid those unions.

But for example, if an african american want to marry me, he has to be aware that we have to do a traditional wedding and a regular one. During the traditional wedding, he has to wear the traditonal costume and assist to all the events! He has to give me the “cory”, he has to give gifts to the family (sheeps, wine, textiles etc…) which is somethin we call “dote”. All the women will cook for all the invitees and the marriage can last until 3 days. He has to sit down and wait for all the family to come and accept the congratulations. Ans in my case, he would have to learn French lol (just kiddin)!
