Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick has been charged with perjury, which could carry up to 15 years’ imprisonment:
Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick…..was charged Monday with perjury and other counts after sexually explicit text messages surfaced that appear to contradict his sworn denials of an affair with a top aide. Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy also charged the popular yet polarizing 37-year-old mayor with obstruction of justice and misconduct in office. Former Chief of Staff Christine Beatty, 37, who also denied under oath that she and Kilpatrick shared a romantic relationship in 2002 and 2003, was charged with perjury and obstruction of justice.

The dates on the text messages do not line up with the date of the “Whitsle Blower Trial,” not only that but it is hard to define (legally) what a relationship is. Kwame may not have seen it as a romantic relationship, therefore (legally) he was not lying. There are a million angles to play, and he has a great legal team that will play them all. He probably won’t get charged.
The relationship could have ended before the trial, so then he was not lying. Or Kwame may not consider a sexual relationship a romantic relationship. It is not black and white. Just because he said he didn’t not have a relationship with her, and text messages show he did, does not mean he will be convicted.

She went on trips with him because she was a city aide. He did not use city funds to “take her on lavish trips.” As far as the security guards that were paid off, they were paid off by the city’s legal fund (which can not be used for anything other than legal matters). The money (legally) is NOT an issue. None of the charges have to do with money. They are about him hindering a government investigation (obstruction of justice) and him lying under oath (perjury). None of the charges are about the money. The citizens are upset about the money, but legally he is not responsible.

But I should have take my first two year at community college, to save money, and the 8 retake credits I used on Organic Chemistry. I was trying to be a big shot though. All you high schoolers, go to community college first and then transfer. There is a limit to the number of cl*****es you can retake for a high grade, and anyway retakes look bad on grad school applications. If someone else learns from my mistakes, I’ll be happy.

Now those of us with degrees and common knowledge on how other cities are ran, WE know better, What type of MAN in authority would bring up the race card now?? We are in the most important part of our history. We have a BLACK man and a Woman running for PRESIDENT, AND ONLY AN IDIOT would bring race up now!!!! As far as cover ups, its all out now, I hope to god he had nothing to do with that young womans death. We already know he mis spent the citys money, so hopefully he will answer to that also. It is a sad day in Detroit. Needless to say it is a good day for justice. There is nothing wrong with supporting your race, but there is a problem with supporting a lying cheat. This clown is only for his self. He doesnt care about Detroit until his ***** is in trouble. The case is not predicated on having sex with another woman other then your wife. The point is abusing the law and firing upstanding officers of the law for doing there jobs. Also lying under oaf that you did not cover up your SHADY actions with a co-worker. These are your crimes “Kwame Kilpatches”. Yes! There was a party that was in question. Yes! There was a cover up to the death of those 2 young ladies. Yes! There was very important officials…Judges, Attorneys, Top Ranking Law enforcement officials that was at the party. Yes! His wife knew about the party. Yes! This a BLACKeye for Detroit, the state of Michigan and for all young future Black Leaders that have a chance to be in an elected office. When I took a friend of mine from NYC to show her around Detroit, she was quite shocked at how beautiful some of the homes are. She said Palmer Woods look like Beverly Hills, CA. There is Sherwood Forest, Indian Village,the Boston-Edison Historical area and the University of Detroit area where I live. ME! I have lived in both ATL and Detroit and I choose ATL ANY DAY over Detroit. In Atlanta there’s plenty of Black wealth, competent city leaders (Mayor Shirley Franklin is the straight up business), Black HBCUs with Black professionals everywhere and plenty of cultural events. In Detroit it’s the total opposite. Hell, there aren’t even grocery stores in any of the neighborhoods. Heaven forbid if you need the police to show up for anything. Sorry but Detroit has NOTHING on Atlanta. Detroit is the equivalent to New Orleans.

OK people I am about to break this case down for all who cares to know the facts. First of all the case never started out as it has ended it kind of mushroomed into the fiasco that it has become. Now try and stay w/ me cause it gets a little confusing.
Cast of players:
Mayor -Hon. Kwame Kilpatrick
Chief of Staff – Ms.Christine Beatty
Deputy Chief of Police in charge of Internal Affairs – Chief Gary Brown
Member of the Mayors Executive Protection Unit (EPU) – Lt. Nelthrope
Detroit Police Officer – Officer Harris
During the Mayors first term between 2002 – 2003, Lt. Nethrope was noticing that some members of the Mayors EPU were getting excessive overtime. Overtime that was pushing their salaries to almost 2x their base rate, but he was not seeing these individuals on the job to warrant such overages. Thinking there was some falsification of time records being done, Lt. Nelthrope reported it to Internal Affairs. Deputy Chief Brown being in charge of this department, launched an investigation. In conducting this investingation, Chief Brown started to uncover not only that there was overtime being paid illegally but other more serious goings on with the Mayors EPU. (Being drunk on duty, damaging police vehicles and not being reported, and the infamous party at the Manoogian Mansion. At this party a stripper, Tamara Greene aka Strawberry, was allegedly *****ualted by Carlita Kilpatrick and had to be taken to the hospital.) Learning of the investigation, the Mayor removed the EPU from under the Chief of Police command and placed it under the command of Chief of Staff Christine Beatty. Now mind you, it is highly unethical for a civilian to be in charge of a law enforcement branch. Upon taking charge of the EPU, Ms. Beatty informed Deputy Chief Brown that from now on any inquiries about the Mayor or his EPU had to go directly through her.
At this juncture the investigation began to stall because all cooperation and information ceased. Deputy Chief Brown began to notice very antagonistic behavior from Ms. Beatty whenever he tried to gather information about the Mayor or his staff. Chief Brown brought this to the attention of Lt. Brown and he said that is because they are having an affair. Chief Brown asked Lt. Nelthrope how does he know this and he said everyone on the EPU knew about it. LT. Nelthrope also indicated that it was his job to do a security sweep of the Mayors room when he was out of town but on the occasions that Ms. Beatty was in attendance, he was not allowed to do the sweep. So Chief Brown began looking into possible obstruction of justice claims against Ms. Beatty and the Mayor in connection w/ his investigation. The next thing he knew, he was subsequently fired and Lt. Nelthrope was demoted to a desk job on the midnight shift where he was subjected to continuous harrasement. This caused a volitile work enviorment for him and excessive stress where he had no other choice but to quit. Keep in mind that Chief Brown and Lt. Nelthrope had over 50 yrs. of experience on the force combined with many outstanding job performance accomodations to their credit. Now also during this time Ofc. Harris, who gave Chief Brown and sworn statement about the allegeded party during his investigation was also fired. They all got together and filed a wrongful termination civil suit.
Fast forward to 2006. The trial is in progress. Since one of the allegations was that they were fired to cover up the affair and that they were indeed fired, that’s how the text messages come into play. All along the Mayor and Ms. Beatty maintain that they did not fire the ofcs., the were demoted and they quit. Now of course we know that through the text messages that they indeed fired the officers and that they were having an affair.
So people they are not being brought on charges because he had an affair but because they lied under oath concerning the firing of the officers and since the ofcs. contend that they were fired to cover up the affair, they had get evidence of the affair to justify the charges.
Therefore the reasons for the indictment:
Perjury – 15yrs
Conspiracy to commit perjury – 15 yrs
obstruction of justice – 5yrs
Misuse of public office – 5yrs
Now I must add that all parties no longer live in the city due to numerous threats of bodily harm and even death. Today during an interview after Ms. Worthy announced the charges she was asked if she was going to increase security aroung her and her daughter and she said that it’s something that she is looking into and that is all she will say on the matter!!!! SMH

hey my ex-roomates parents went to school with this dudes parents at western michigan university and ferris state. they said his dad was shady back. That party at the mansion came up too. the strippers ended up dead and the city had to settle with some officers who were intimidated to keep quiet.
