I think it is a stretch at best to even try to explain how marriage can touch on every issue. I think it all begins with economics. My point is further proven by the marriage rates for poor men and middle class men/affluent men are so vastly different.

You mention going to Africa and elsewhere to find Black men. Not all single Black women can afford that option.

Yes, some Black women DO have a lot of expectations. What about the Black women who DON’T?

You know you can make an argument about white women going to expensive colleges so they can meet “eligible” men and marry and become “stay at home” moms. Women go to Ivy League schools and never work or plan to work.

Since they don’t have to work a “paying job”, shouldn’t that spot in college go to someone who is actually going to use their education?

Not even to play Devil’s Advocate, it’s a choice between “marrying down” (which women have proven they won’t do), being less educated (which women have proven they are unwilling to do) or not being married (which is what they are electing to do).

But I think it’s fair to say that clearly there has been a significant shift in our community when it comes to dating and marriage. It is now so commonplace for a household to be headed by a single woman that the sight of a black nuclear family is viewed as an anomaly by some. I’m looking at this issue, not from an individual perspective, but by how it affects us as a whole and future generations.

It’s called Human Nature. The female of the species will always be attracted to the strongest male and in this society money is equated with strength.
