She said on her “ggod hair” episode that her her is not permed – she just straightens it – any I am proud of her – it is hard for many women to wear theis hair the way it was meant to be worn – without HARSH chemicals. That perm stuff is for the birds. I have been struggling to grow my hair long and couldn’t until I stopped perming my hair – and now I went from no hair to shoulder length hair in a year and a half !!!11

This is a great idea. The lace fronts are getting ridiculous. Women used to be comfortable with their own hair permed or natural.

hmmmm.. by no means am I trying to be a hater.. but I am not convinced that Tyra is doing this for positive self image or self awareness…Tyra is always proclaiming about “keeping it real” and she is the 1st lady in a weave, caked on make-up, fake eye lashes. Etc etc…She is probably only doing this b/c her Hair stylist told her 20lbs of weave was making her real hair fall out and she has no choice but to stop wearing the weaves until her natural hair gets healthy again.

As for me, I wear my own hair but I do get a perm every 3-4 months. It is more manageable for me.

She’s worn her REAL hair out in a ponytail before. Back in season 4, on her Opposite Day episode. However, she did have the ends tucked under. Hiding her length, but it looked like a nice amount of hair. I personally love this idea, and am very proud of Tyra. Hopefully more women will become comfortable with their own hair. And I’m talking about women of ALL colors, ’cause it ain’t just black women wearing fake hair.

She got that idea from Oprah. Oprah is real and showed everyone her real, natural hair with no make-up on and it wasent an event for ratings.

I’m glad she doing it though. I hope she leaves it that way for a while too.

so whats the big deal. if she did it for a whole season I would give her props. But she is just exacerbating the problem by making it seem like its the end of the world to go out with your own hair for one day.

although oprah’s hair is permed, you don’t see her wearing a huge curly lace front everyday. she’s been doing this for the longest time. tyra needs to step it up if she wants to be the next oprah…which she so obviously wants to become.

I hope more black women decide to follow her b/c it so annoying to hear so many black women complain about not keeping their bodies in shape b/c of their hair. This will be good if she can influence more women to do this so it can eliminate the “My hair will get messed up if I sweat” excuse…..then maybe they will start working out.

Honestly,I think she is doin this to get her hair healthy and doesnt really know how to pull it off hence coming up with this natural hair s**t. I love Tyra but,I have seen her hypocritical ways on numerous occasions,a while back when the papps came down hard on her weight she went on tv and proclaimed how much she loves her weight and they can kiss her “fat ass” then immediately she started working out like a mad woman and dropped the weight very quickly. To then shed the weight so quickly showed she was an hypocrite and i dnt trust her this time…u get your hair healthy Tyra and grow in the stressed out areas and then come bac the following season and rock the lace front again….HYPOCRITE!

Good for Tyra but I am not giving up my weave. My hair is longer than my weave and with a weave I can go long or short when I want to. I don’t have to cut my hair and wait for it to grow back.

I’m guessing the reason she was wearing strictly lace fronts for so long is because she started going natural underneath a looooong time ago, and her real hair probably looks great.

I understand your dislike for a specific type of Black women, but since your wife, and I’m sure many other Black women do not fit into this stereotype, I don’t believe that you should judge every Black women by them. Since it wouldn’t be fair if someone assumed that you married your wife in jail after having multiple baby mommas who were on your back for child support.

Also, do you believe that all White women are like the women on Rock of Love, or are there the Hillary Clinton’s, Martha Stewart’s, and Coco’s. And despite the Michelle Obama’s, Oprah’s, and Angela Bassett’s you only see the Frankie’s and Neffe’s, interesting.

Any how, on another note, I’m so sick of people’s obsession with a Black women’s hair. And when you make comparisons about how women from all races wear weaves, many people say things like why you have to discuss women from other races, and I do so to prove that many women (of all races) wear weaves for fashion, a new look, and yes some because of self-hate. My concern is what’s in a person’s head, not the hair on it, and as a natural I can say I get more looks of what the hell I’m thinking from other Black people than anyone else, or are ppl from other races better at disquising it? Either way, I guess it’s disturbing that ppl with the same texture verbally express their dislike for it.

I do not believe hair makes a person but there are many with a ton of hair related self confidence issues. A lot of girls look up to Tyra so if she can reach any of them positively by going without the weave even for a minute,why not?
