According to docs filed by Kelis’ lawyer, disso queen Laura Wasser, the financial wizards have reviewed the earning of both parties to the divorce, and they’ve come to these conclusions.

– Nas pulls in $244,826 a month
– Kelis rakes in a relatively paltry $13,744 a month
– Kelis should get child support totaling $17,225 a month
– Kelis should get spousal support totaling $72,728
– Nas should pay retro child support totaling $29,522
– Nas should pay retro spousal support totaling $281,571

The child support laws are flawed.

A woman should not be allowed to get all the money. Sometimes you see some of these females with their hair & nails done, but their children are dirty.

The child support should be set up in a way where half of the money goes to the mother to help out with taking care of the child, but the other half needs to go into a savings account that the mother can not touch. It should be for the child…when the child is of age.

There are too many kids that…when they are ready to go to college they can’t because their mothers used all of the money that they should have been saving for their college, etc. on themselves.

What I said has nothing to do with her earning less. Child support is based on the man’s earnings. How much she earned really has nothing to do with it. I’m not sure how spousal support is determined but it may have something to do with how much the person makes. That’s the only reason I can even see the courts bringing her earnings into account. Anyway, you decided not to put your ex on child support…that’s fine. Go for yours and do you! I’m not mad at that or concerned with it. However, if you wanted child support you could get it….your choice. She wants hers, plans to get it and from what we’re hearing….a judge agrees with her too. = ) As far as women taking child support as a career move I do believe some do. At everyone – what you all fail to realize is that the courts deal with facts NOT requests. NO ONE – no matter who you are – gets to ask the judge for an arbitrary sum of money. The court looks at the tax returns -the FACTS – of all involved parties and determines an amount to be awarded. And yes, the court does take into account other children depending on the circumstances.

Why should Nas have to support KELIS financially (not the child) — in perpetuity (indefinitely) — when she has a career? What if the tables turn, and she starts to earn more than him? Should he then be entitled to support to raise him to her level of living?

I dont know if Kelis worked. Dont care. Spousal support is only for a period of time. Not as long as child support. When the divorce is finalized she will probably get support for a few years and a settlement or no support and just the settlement. But in the meantime (until the divorce is finalized) they are still considered to be a married couple therefore he has to support his wife which = “SPOUSAL SUPPORT” . The child support is what will last the longest. Im surprised all the “WIFEYS” on this blog dont know/understand that. Also….the womans worth is also figured into the equation for child support. Thats why Kelis has to state her earnings as well.

If kelis was the breadwinner and the cheater then NAS would get these things. Its not unfair…it’s the law.

Kelis is a greedy heifer, lol. Now one doesn’t need $55,000 per month to raise one child, this is complete nonsense. I know many women that work and they don’t make a massive amount of money but they manage to take care of their kids. And no I wouldn’y purposely get pregnant just to collect child support from the ex boyfriend. That’s a trifiling move for Kelis to make. Be careful about rooting for this type of injustice…stuff like that has a funny way of coming back at you as Karma. Also…just becuz something is law and/or a judge rules in favor of it doesn’t make it right. Believe me…society as a whole always suffers as a result of injustice. For example…more and more successful brothers aren’t getting married to sista’s…and when you look at the way Kelis is going after this mans stacks…i don’t think this is going to help the case for successful brotha’s as a whole to reverse that trend.

And not to get into your personal biz, but you mentioned you are 25yrs old, reasonably successful, never been married, but some day hopes to be. That description fits a lot of women/sistas that comment on this site and others every day complaining they can’t find a brotha with the same level of success and goals. So just remember…if you are a successful sista and would like to at some point settle down with a brotha (or anyone else for that matter…) with the same level of success…the sh!t that you are rooting for and Kelis is trying to pull on Nas is going to hurt your chances of finding that brotha in the long run. It seems really funny how hard people are going after her, but she obviously has a legitimate case (seeing as the courts agreed with her). She received a temporary order of support and considering that no financial matters were settled with his support before the child was born, she is likely being both reimbursed for expenses incurred as well as for the cost of starting a new life. The order was not permanent and would be reviewed. Consider the cost of living in New York City (where she is trying to raise her son). Also consider if there was a lack of consideration for expenses- child birthing can be extremely expensive without insurance and she’s covering these expenses herself. Just because you are married to a man and it doesn’t work out, it doesn’t mean that she’s necessarily trying to do him in. He should understand that it was probably far cheaper for him to keep her, but as a man should respect the fact that he created the situation that he’s in- making a child, removing his wife from his home, lack of provisions for his own household, etc. If a man can’t take responsibility for his part in situations, he should not get married.

My feelings are, that it would’ve been nice for this new life (baby Knight)to help the sitution rather then harm it. However if this is what it has to be, just take it one day at a time. Being intelligent and loving life along with your career for the reason(s) that you do, is why I know within me you will be alright.

Whatever you and your former husband went through, you should never use money to overcome it. The type of money you’re asking from him is greedy and has spite written all over it. I’m sure you know that through Nas the baby would be taken care of, (he is a proud father why wouldnt he),but as far as your well being, you asked for this divorce. You chose not to work things out with your husband so you should have been willing to be woman enough to make it the best way Kelis knew how. I’m sure he would’ve taken care of thongs regardless of the situation, so was it really worth it…then again maybe is was to you. It’s never a bad thing to have to lower your standards a bit so that you make a comfortable life with you and your baby,but material things come and go and whatever you didnt have without the help of your husband you would’ve eventually received other ways…for instance your talents. I cant really judge a person I know nothing of, but I can give my opinion on a situation as it’s being presented. Kelis is trying to get “retro” the money that Nas owes her for not paying any of his bills. Kelis is also trying to get “spousal” which is how she gets back on her feet. She did just give birth to a human child which should put her out of commission for a good 2 and half years. Like if you and your guy were living together and he kicked you and your baby out. You’ll need security deposit, a car, a job, a babysitter, food..all that stuff you guys were supposed to take care of together, you now have to immediately do on your own. The estimate of how much money they get a month is not accurate..she’s a singer let’s remember and unemployed while pregnant=no deniro. Child support, is determined upon a lifestyle as well. If Nas can spend 50,000 dollars on a wardrobe per month, surely 30,000 a month for his “child” is nothing. So therefore, she doesn’t want more than he makes, this will be paid in installments over time until the money he “owes” her is paid off. Like a credit card. Another thing…I’m suprised at those wicked comments. As a woman, you should want fairness and equality. Nas can’t get pregnant, there’s no hendering his ability to make money.

I’m also suprised, knowing that the majority of you all were raised by your mothers single handedly. Even the one’s who had both or 2 parent homes, still your mother had most if not all of weight on herself.

So what you found a way to raise your child with $300 a month. But your child doesn’t have the chance to do what privileged children do. Like learn new languages, be able to visit Paris, go to the best schools, play instruments and actually own them, have books in their home to reference, go to college, not have to work while in high school or college so they can concentrate on studies, participate in extracurricular activities without worrying about raising enough money with candy bars, not have to wear hand me downs, have their hair done neatly, have medical insurance and trust fund, have their teeth fixed (we all know Nas has some jacked up teeth)…without the mother having to give up every dime she’s ever earned and going in debt.
