Teach them not to be swayed by the public images of perfection but by whats in their hearts… I media has alot to do with whats considered beautiful and whats not in this country. With that being said, we do live an a still prospering racist environment, and of course with that being said.. thats why many dark skinned people are talented but unsuccessful in the entertainment industry. Color means everything.. So we have got to teach our kids to live in a color blind society regardless of what the society really stands for.. Can can speak for myself when I say, there is nothing like the love from A BLACK woman, light or dark. But I will not go as far to knock anyone else’s race.. I luv women.. period. Well, actually there are beauty standards among white people. Its just that skin color is the most striking difference amonst people. As result, you have idiots who pick on that to make themselves feel superior. French ( Normans) were once viewed as darker and now Italians and Spaniards, Serbs, etc are considered the darker half of Europe. Even in this day and age white blonde women with blue eyes are considered the standard of beauty. White women who don’t fit the bill complain about that all the time. However, white women who arent blonde can easily dye their hair now or wear blue contacts, ie Paris Hilton( not that they should). In fact, in the past women would use harmful things to dye their hair blonde. Theres always going to be a divide. If black people didn’t exist, white people would still be fighting amongst themselves. PLUS, its not only black people, Asians, Hispanics, and as I wrote above, white people do it. I just wish that black people would be smart enough to move past it.

So that it’s clear I was saying that when a person’s success was in major part due to their appearance it’s better being light-skinned. There are some pretty dark-skinned women. Like the the dark-skinnded one from Girlfriends. She is hott. But again that’s an exception.
Again if you take a look at the most successful entertainers in showbusiness they are all light-skinned. Halle, Tyra Banks(back in the day), Rihanna, C*****ie, Beyonce, etc. Being light is preferred by lots a people.
And it even helps in business. Top CEO’s are usually light-skinned. And I’m not talking about entrepreneurs a la Oprah Winfrey because when you start your own business you don’t have to necessarily be embraced the way you have to in a large company.
And again this is my opinion, but none of it is incorrect. It’s empirical so I’m right.

Your evidence cannot be empirical. First of all, where is your data – did you conduct the study yourself or was it done through a major university? Second of all, who is considered light skinned is subjective – is L’il Kim light skinned now? Is Janet Jackson light skinned? Is Tyra Banks light skinned? A preference for lighter skin does exist in America, however, so many black people are talented in the performing arts and have risen above these artificial standards of beauty – Cecily Tyson, Diana Ross, Whoopi Goldberg, Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, just to name a few. The perception of light skinned changes over time, too. Some people do not believe light skinned is just skin color – if you don’t have natural hair that is of a particular grade and you can’t grow it beyond your shoulders, you may not be considered light skinned. It’s all so utterly stupid – I can’t believe I am even responding to this nonsense.

In the black race there are certain features that are not appreciated more so on women than men. Flat wide noses, short kinky hair,broad cheeklines and blue black skin. I don’t know fully about Alek Wek’s career. But something tells me if she had to depend on us to recognize her beauty, she never would have been booked, much less a coveted model. Slavery did a huge job on our behinds. We still need to recognize all form of beauty, and just not the ones that are “relatable” to what society deems ok.
