Well, actually there are beauty standards among white people. Its just that skin color is the most striking difference amonst people. As result, you have idiots who pick on that to make themselves feel superior. French ( Normans) were once viewed as darker and now Italians and Spaniards, Serbs, etc are considered the darker half of Europe. Even in this day and age white blonde women with blue eyes are considered the standard of beauty. White women who don’t fit the bill complain about that all the time. However, white women who arent blonde can easily dye their hair now or wear blue contacts, ie Paris Hilton( not that they should). In fact, in the past women would use harmful things to dye their hair blonde. Theres always going to be a divide. If black people didn’t exist, white people would still be fighting amongst themselves. PLUS, its not only black people, Asians, Hispanics, and as I wrote above, white people do it. I just wish that black people would be smart enough to move past it.

Again if you take a look at the most successful entertainers in showbusiness they are all light-skinned. Halle, Tyra Banks(back in the day), Rihanna, Cassie, Beyonce, etc. Being light is preferred by lots a people.

If you are a black woman saying these things then I feel bad for you- that you hate yourself so much. No matter what shade we are, we are beautiful and to answer your rebuttal yes we do have a lot of attractive dark skin females doing it up big time for us- Angela Bassett- did you forget about her? Khandi Alexander on CSI-Miami, Phylicia Rashad, Tichina Arnold, Tasha Smith, Anika Noni Rose, Jennifer Hudson. I could go on but I think I made my point. While they are not the darkest sisters out there, they for are definitely not light skinned and some how they managed to make it work. I think you need to get a reality check because it’s people like you that are crabs in a barrel. Also you are just plain ignorant, what does the color of your skin have to do with how talented you are?

I’m a light skinned woman but what on earth is going on with this competition thing? There are so many attractive people of various skin colors in the world, why do we have to choose which one is better? I love jill scott and lauryn hill as well as alicia keyes and halle berry.
