Sean Levert Has Passed Away

Sean Levert was found dead in his jail cell over the weekend:
“Sean Levert, son of O’Jays lead singer Eddie Levert, was found dead in a Cleveland, Ohio, jail over the weekend. Sean Levert, 39, was being held for allegedly failing to pay about $80,000 in child support. The cause of death was not immediately known.
Sean Levert was a member of the R&B group LeVert with his late brother Gerald Levert and Marc Gordon. Gerald Levert died Nov. 10, 2006 at the age of 40.”
We can’t even begin to imagine what his family must be going through right now. Gerald Levert passed away just 2 years ago. We send our thoughts and prayer to them.

May he R.I.P. first of all. From my understanding he died from a panic attack, I have heard of people having panic attacks before, but did’nt know it could be fatal. DAMN!
What some women don’t understand about child-support is the ***** is real flawed in alot of ways. Alot of brotha’s get behind when they have a decrease of income and don’t report this to child-support court. If you don’t let them know when your money is not what it once was, they keep charging you at the same rate. Hence alot of men fall behind real quick. This could be why he got so far behind. Nevertheless, his kids will have to grow up without him, and that is truly sad.
RIP, I feel so bad for Eddie and his wife.
One more thing, even if a man is putting money right in his BM’s hands, even if he is taking his kids shopping for gear, shoes, whatever….this is not counted as paying child support according to the court. All that would be considered to be a gift from the dad. At least that’s how it is in the state of PA.
Oh my God! How can people even be saying such awful things in a time like this! We all just need to pray for the Family because we don’t know when it’s gonna be our time or someone we love. Let’s stop being so selfish and show some love and respect for each other no matter who famous or homeless.

Sean’s father, Eddie is NOT responsible for his son’s child support payment. Sean’s daddy wasn’t there when those babies were made. Sean was a grown-***** 39 year old man. He wasn’t a kid and he knew better.
Grown ***** people kill me complaining about how their parents “won’t” help them with their children’s expenses. Parents can help if they choose, but they are not obligated.

This is so sad, but it’s hasn’t been 2 yrs since Gerald died, it’s almost 18 months. To lose 2 children is too much for any parents to bear, my condolences go out to the family, and children.
Why should his baby mama feel guilty? R.I.P. to Sean, he should have been handling his business as far as supporting his children financially. And co-sign with BB and Soca Princess – being overweight was probably as big a factor in both deaths then anything else.

1) the mother has nothing to feel bad about, she was trying to do right by her three children ALL BY HIM
2) he had to know he was behind and being the celeb or once celeb he was knows how to make that money, could have had an auction, held a concert, released a single, borrowed from daddy, he could have gotten the money
3) we don’t know if she tried to work with him but the courts only issue an order of arrest after MANY warnings, PLEADINGS and after settlement agreements have failed
4) his obesity possibly caused his death, who knows, many fit, trim athletes also have heart attacks, so can’t say for sure
5) like someone said, everything happens for a reason and while we can get angry all we want, there must be a heavenly reason that we’ll never understand at the fast turn of events.

Sean made the mistake of paying the money directly instead of through the system where he would receive credit. His offspring wanted for nothing and he was active their life. Now they have nothing but proceeds from the death and a loss of a father that was involved and present.
I wouldn’t be surprised if he had committed suicide. In fact, I’m suspecting it. Mourning his brother’s death, trying to make a come-back with a completed album and then the setback of the negative publicity of being in a jail that would postpone the promotion and tour would be enough to send a person into the next life.
I pray for the people who have made the negative comments without knowing the whole story. Just keep on living. Everybody experiences a dark season.
According to the radio station here in Atlanta I believe an older member of his family died recently too… like a grandmother or something. I know it’s a really tough time for the Levert family especially Gerald’s daughter who’s in college and has had to deal with 3 deaths in less than a year and a half. My prayers go out to the Levert family. I know it must be really though right now.

It is so unnatural for children to die before their parents. I pray to god that my daughter does not die before me because I would be besides myself. I would have a nervous breakdown. That family seemed very close knit and I just pray that the folks their left behind will be ok after these two unfortunate deaths in such a short *****e of time.

The reality is we all are going to die one day. Whether it is due to natural causes, @ the hands of someone else etc, this is going to happen to everyone on the face the this earth. Would you all quit speculating about why this man died, for crying out loud. People that are thin drop dead from health problems all the time. I have a male friend who worked out religiously daily. He was very fit and ate right too. He’s had two strokes and is on his death bed. I’m not saying that being overweight is healthy, but just b/c someone is thin doesn’t mean they are eating right or healthy. Also I know people who are a bit overweight and are healthy. Believe it or not.

I think the story needs to be retracted and the AP version should be posted. I am a clerk for a family court and I don’t believe that locking up these people for non payment. You can’t get money while they are in jail. Where I’m from jobs are being lost by the hundreds and a lot of men can’t pay the support. You have some that do for the children besides child support and they should be given credit for that. When you sit where I sit you’re whole prospective of deadbeat dads would change. Even though some men don’t or can’t pay their support the deadbeat “MOMS” need to get of their ***** and do something. I am a single parent I’m not getting anything, but I work Mon-Fri to make sure my children eat and get the things they need. I don’t have it like that, but unlike some people I can’t get help, but my kids aren’t starving, stink, dirty, or jacked up. If that man ain’t doing what he needs to be doing, so be it. A way will be made out of no way.

Not to really blame ANYone, but it is one damn shame how people are treated in that Hell Hole called jail. One can make the point that he should have paid his child support, but we should stop this “LOCKING UP” of our people like they are dogs over non-violent offenses. Maybe, that’s the American way to extract money from an unwilling payer, but, as shown, it truly can defeat the purpose. Now, the kids don’t have a father to pay anything; he is dead, gone forever! We make the *****umption that these black singers and actors are loaded with money. Based on that, you get the white justice in black robes. The judges set such high amounts based on a “preceived” worth. If the royalties don’t come fast enough, it becomes hard to keep up. Plus there are the taxes. Not to excuse the guy for not paying, but it is sad how we cage our people like sardines. Those animals that guard the jails could give a #@!$ about you. No one knows how long he could have needed help before collapsing. Their dirt is rarely caught on tape as it was with the young man at the boot camp in Florida. Sure those mothers have to have money to raise the kids by the fathers of their kids, but they should find means other than that cage to get paid. His house, car, etc. Jail, in any matter that isn’t a threat to bodily harm, should be a last resort. Debtors prison is barbaric. It was supposed to have been abolished. There is no outside blame, but greed does pay a part. Celebrities are people, too. They don’t have bottomless pockets. How much is ever enough? He was a grown man with big boy responsibilities; no one should pay his support for him. It is just a shock to some people that this happens to the people who are in the spotlight. Another tragic, alas! Pray for the family. This is still someone’s son. Those kids will have to live with the fact their father is gone. Pray.
According to reports: Sean was placed in “restraints” after beating on his cell door and acting irrationally. When the guards went to check on him he was unconscious and they called EMS.
It’s not the mother of the children’s fault that he was placed in jail, it’s the law. I wanna know how his back child support got to such an outrageous amount?? I personally don’t agree with people being placed in jail for not paying child support because you need to work to earn the dough. My heart goes out to his family. I didn’t know the Leverts personally, but I have friends in the music business who worked with him and they were still trying to get over Gerald’s death… now this…
For the dumb a** who said Gerald Levert died because of his weight…damn you…He died because he had taking an accidental mix of prescription and over-the-counter drugs.

Rest In Peace Sean. My question is … why would ANY female birth a child if she was not finacially capable of rearing said child? Locking the father down serves no purpose what so ever. I remember 32 yrs ago I took my Sons so called father to court to simply have his name changed to his Dads. He told the Judge that ” I ain’t given that ***** nothing ” true to his word I have received nothing. Never once did I consider prosecuting this AIRHEAD. I simply took care of my child the best that I could . 12.50/wk was all that he was ordered to pay. needless to say his DADDY PRIVELDGES went right out of the window w/his snide remark! WAKE UP GIRLS IT TAKES 2. Being that the white mans law enjoys locking down the men I Know a whole lot of *****es that need to be locked down right w/them. MAY GOD CONTINUE TO BLESS US ALL!
Sounds like the law beat another brother to death. You know, I have to say this. So much of the time you see brothers devoting all of their energies into putting Black women down and holding other women up. It’s seems like having the ability to date and marry white women is the only achievment of the Civil Rights struggle that they are grateful for. That’t cool if that’s your thing, I’ve enjoyed the swirl a few times myself. But they have ignored a lot of issues that continue to plague and threaten their own lives. The police beat and kill as many black folks today as they did a hundred years ago. I believe if Black men would stand up for themselves and demand true and lasting protection and equality instead of constantly blaming and putting black women down, they would not only experience true freedom, but they would really learn that manhood is not about how many different kinds of ladies you can lay up with, but about how well you value, protect, and promote yourselves and your own.
