You're right, we can agree to disagree. And the point of it all is that they need the time apart to figure out themselves. They're obviously volatile together, so why should they be?

And as far as prison time goes, everyone knows that there is a consequence for every action, and in some cases that involves jail time. Don't like jail, don't attack someone. And a lot of ex-convicts can tell you that if it had not been for the solitude of prison, they wouldn't have taken the time to examine themselves and their ways. Reform can come through voluntary means, which Chris Brown was fortunate to be given being that he is still a free man, or it can happen involuntarily through imprisonment. Ultimately, it is up to the person's personal judgment, but some people have to be made to look at themselves

@The Third Eye

I agree, if she hit him, she should face consequences as well, but he had the burden of proof in showing that she did, and there was no proof.

As far as the entire issue of domestic violence is concerned, there are not enough convictions in these instances. Being a court clerk during college, and having grown up seeing my mother in abusive relationships, I can attest to the fact that domestic violence is too often swept under the rug.

I recall my mom calling the police because she had been beaten, and the cops taking someone to jail only to place them in the holding cell and give them one day of counseling. In court cases I worked on at the county jail bond hearings, guys accused of domestic violence (and even child abuse) were given misdemeanor charges which resulted in them having to pay only 10% of a maximum $1000 fine ($100) to go home and not ever appear in court again. In the past year alone, I have myself called the sheriff on three separated occasions to report domestic violence, once the girl was being beat up and drug to the car in daylight during lunch rush in a restaurant parking lot, and when I called the manager to make sure the sheriff arrived when I could no longer wait for them to get there, guess what, nobody ever came. The other two instances, I waited, and nobody ever came.

Domestic violence does not just affect the person being hit. Too often there are children around who have to witness a loved one being hurt, outside people see it and feel pain because they cannot get help for the person, and the abuser themself only becomes more troubled in the head and violent once they see that they can get away with it. Why do you think people in abusive relationships are always first advised to leave?? Because it is known that once an abuser gets away with hurting you the violence only escalates. And not every woman stays, so I'm not trying to hear that dead excuse, but some of these people (not just men) are so sick that they stalk the person just to be able to hurt them again.

I am all for the harshest punishments for people like this, not because I hate men, fear them, or have a complex, but because I have sense enough and a heart to match to know that there are people far more important than the parties involved who are affected by violence. Not knocking you or your opinion, but you should really reconsider how you voice that opinion, because God forbid that it ever happens to you or one of your loved ones, and the rest of us just say, "oh, he snapped, that's all".

@ The Third Eye

Any convicted felon cannot legally own/carry a firearm, 2nd amendment or not (and that is actually written as a clause for times of war on US soil, but has always been taught as simply owning/carrying a gun), convicted felons with guns automatically get prison time (ie-T.I.) so at least the judge has given him the opportunity to give up any weapons he may own ahead of time, and anybody on probation is required to report when they leave their state lines and go out of the country. As far as the DNA issue goes, that is more so for his own protection, so in the event she is ever attacked again, it is on file to be put to use to either rule him in or out. So, it actually is not as harsh as it seems.

Domestic violence deserves to be treated with harsh sentences, because the usual step after beating a person is trying to kill them

In the REALITY of it all...NO...IT'S NOT A HARSH SENTENCE...

Chris made the statement that he wanted to fess up earlier but didn't at the advisement of his attorney...

This situation has happened to Chris because he veered off a positive path and found himself in a situation that he may not have initiated. By keeping himself surrounded by anyone who "fights" with him...he's in danger of being labeled AN ABUSER...

I hope this 5 year hiatus from Rihanna clears his jones for her...and hopefully he'll realize that he MUST make better choices in behavior and WOMEN...

Call me Chris!!!
