Nas Talks Politics and the Nigger Album

Nas recently discusses the election and collaborating on his album Nigger that seems to have a non-existent release date:
“This election year, I’m still not really sure where I sit with politicians,” Nas said. “I’m not really trustin’ [them] still. But I think this election is the best thing we could ask for right now, coming out of [George W.] Bush. I’d love to see Barack Obama become the president. He’s the face of America, hands down. There’s no two ways to look at it, man. The man’s got what it takes. He’s serious. As a kid, you always think, ‘We’ll never see a black president,’ you know? ‘There’ll never be a black president.’ And you always feel that way. Everybody’s always grew up that way, black and white. So I think now, with Obama having a great chance of winning, I think [with] black and white, there’s been something lifted off their shoulders. It’s like, ‘This can happen. This can be great.’ And it’s about time.” …
“I always want to work with different dudes when it’s time to put together a record, so I was just out there, listening to tracks from different cats and seeing what’s good out there. Cats that make music that says something to people, you know what I’m saying? So I kinda wanted to work with more cats out there that’s doing something different.
“I don’t wanna reveal everybody that I worked with yet. Because I’m still working [and] still finishing up the record. And I think I want that to speak for itself.”
That translates to, “No one wants to work with me on this project.” Poor thang.

I’m very disappointed in Nas’s choice of a title for his new CD. I feel he is a talented rapper and this is a lame attempt by him to sell records and in the process he’s making black america (us) seem dumber by the second.

Also, it would be nice if Nas had something to say about why he supports Obama beyond ‘he’s black’ and ‘it’s about time’. That’s the same type of thing that allows people to say ‘I support Hillary. Why? I don’t know, cuz she’s female and I miss the 90s?’ It doesn’t really add to the conversation.

Although I DO NOT like the title to his new project, I do want to hear what he has to say.
I’ve learned you will not always agree with someone but you can still respect them.
Nas is an intellectual rapper. His albums always hold content and positive messages in them. You don’t need to be a fan of his to know that his music is one of the few positive things hip hop still holds in the ‘mainstream’ and can be called hip-hop in every real sense of the word.
