whats wrong with not having a maternal instinct. thats exactly how i am. with a younger sister having kids IF i keep them its for a couple of hours. i cant tolerate kids and i only like the ones that are related to me. i get sick of people thinking just because youre a female you have to know how to be mother supreme to kids. its not for everyone and women stop perpetuating that mythm

All I can do is laugh and SMH. Good afternoon to all the sane folks…what a beautiful afternoon. I see there’s been a bunch of back and forth in the hours since I’ve been gone.

On a more uplifting note…I absolutely love Susan Taylor from Essence!! She is an amazingly inspirational woman who founded an organization and a campaign to recruit mentors for young African Americans (National Cares Mentoring Movement). After showing a video with celebs stating alarming statistics as they pertain to us and then followed by her speech, I was extremely moved to get involved and “give back” through mentoring.

Aside from all of the nonsense, impostering and drama that we engage in on this site, I know that all the posters here aren’t losers or insane. I know that there are some here who in real life can make a difference in the lives of at least one young person and can really inspire them to excel in life. So on that note, I encourage you to consider mentoring. It’s amazing because I’ve always tossed around the idea, but after this afternoon, I’m convinced that I should join the movement and mentor someone who might come from a more challenging environment. If we don’t do it for us…who will?

Hey Valenne, I was born in London and left when I was young (grew up in Barbados). Anyway,I was there three years ago and loved it!! I seriously thought of moving back there, especially since I’m a citizen and could easily go back…but, I’d be torn, because I love the U.S.

When I was in London, I loved the vibe there. Although it’s a big city like NY, I thought it was clean, not as loud and I loved the parks dispersed through out the city where folks could just sit and chill. I really like Hyde Park and Battersea Park (which I close to where I lived). It’s really diverse and you can find people and foods from every where.

Anyway, other than it being sooooo expensive and them driving on the “wrong” side of the road… and the tube (train) system needing more escalators/elevators…it’s a cool place…and the shopping is fantastic!!

The weather is gloomy a lot, but when it’s nice and sunny, it’s awesome and you just want to walk everywhere.

I think you’ll have a great time there.
