In fact it wasn’t, based on the rules of the Congress which prohibit such outbursts during speeches by the President. Additionally, the congressman was proven to be the “liar” because the bills circulating DO NOT” call for coverage of illegal aliens.

For me, my insurance is adequate. I am not a sickly person, and I am not on any medications. Now for someone that has a chronic condition, and has to take several medications, their insurance may not be adequate.

yes I do have health insurance I work for one of the biggest insurance companies there is. Yes my insurance is adequate but its not cheap and I work for the company.

I do feel that there should be a public option for ppl and families that cannot afford expenssive health coverage there is no reason why we are one of the wealthiest countries in this world but still ppl children esp are walking around with no coverage.

I agree with you that there are many ways to reach optimal health, and relying on drugs to maintain health isn’t ideal (or necessarily effective at times).

The problem is, and I think you mentioned it in an earlier post, that people don’t want to take responsibility for their own health, and they undervalue/devalue themselves.

The congressmans’s outburst was certainly disrespectful and uncalled for. Even conservatives are saying that. I’m sure he’ll be reprimanded somehow, but he won’t be removed from office.

Regarding the school speech issue. I think people had a right to be concerned at the beginning(especially if they don’t believe in Obama’s politics). The end result of the speech (after revisions were made) was harmless and encouraging so I don’t know why anyone would still have a problem with it.

And is Obama being given the “normal” presidential treatment? I think he is. He’s under scruitiny, for sure. But I don’t believe it’s any more scruitiny than a president taking over in an unstable economic climate has had. Only one party can win the election. That means they’ll be at least one party that’s not happy with the outcome. That’s nothing new. All the president can do is his best and what he believes is right for the country and time will tell how the story ends.

Actually man the military isn’t for everyone. It just doesn’t take anybody off the street. Some branches don’t have as strict of guidelines as others but it does take a certain amount of competency to do the many jobs there are in the military. They aren’t just going let some kid off the street be responsible for a $5 million dollar aircraft or be responsible for the lives of 10,000 people. It takes training and experience. Furthermore it’s not that people join the military because they are lacking something but maybe the have something that others don’t have. It isn’t for everyone and I’m not advocating for it but you can’t classify over 300,000 people as being barbaric neanderthals. I hope you know in order to be an officer in the military you at least need a college degree along with your military training. There are new guidelines now for the enlisted force to have degrees in order to get promoted to senior ranks. I’ll end my soapbox moment with this. I can honestly say that this is the one of the most recession proof jobs there is in the world. I’m getting paid right now to BLOG with you. It not that bad.

I have health care, and I don’t see a point in moving to a public healthcare system in my case. We have preventative coverage, and the premiums are pretty reasonable. Therefore, I haven’t taken a great interest in this whole healthcare debate. However, I do believe that people w/o healthcare should be able to receive adequate medical treatment, just like me, so I do believe a universal healthcare plan would benefit a lot of people. What is the “meat” of this healthcare plan?

Dr Funk, I was want to give you props for using this forum to actually state an intelligent opinion but healthcare. I do however disagree with you…I do believe it will lower cost over the long term,by way of simple market competition. Having a low cost public option will force to either adjust their prices in order to compete, or increase the quality of care they provide.
As far as illegal aliens are concerned, the bill does not need to require a provider to ask a person’s citizenship status, because patients are screened for things like that by the insurance companies when they apply for insurance and by the hospital administrative staff before they ever lay eyes on a provider. The only time a patient would bypass hospital screening is if they enter the E.R, in which case a provider would have to ensure that they are not in any type of life threatening condition.The healthcare system we have now requires the exact same thing in regards to illegal aliens.
Now, as far as how much it cost..I do know from working for both a hospital and an insurance company that their is tons of wasteful spending…which is why the healthcare and insurance agencies are some of the most lucrative industries. If that spending is curbed to to finance the public option and the consumers premiums are used for additional funding. It quite possibly could diminish the cost incurred by the U.S. citizens. I can’t say that for sure because I am not an economist, but if we do incure some cost as a public, I personally am fine with that…people need health care and that is more important to me than the few dollars that might come out of my pocket each year.

TOO TRUE…If you get sent to the emergency room, they have to stabilize you…Meaning that they have to take you in and make sure you can sustain yourself. And not to insinuate anything, but Mexicans do this all the time! I used to work as a financial counselor at a hospital, and I wanted to add that this is probably not the only reason why your hospital is in the red. A lot of times the physicians themselves can drive up health care costs by ordering unnecessary services, tests, exams, and procedures that the insurance companies fail to pay for due to medical necessity. Your friends are correct, the time is always now for investing in your future. Which is what you would be doing.

First off, YOU have to decide how much you can afford, how long you intend to stay there, etc.

Once you have decided on that YOU need to pull your own credit report. It doesn’t have to be perfect but it may (will) require you to put some money down.

There are sooooo many grants out there. They mostly favor single mothers and the poor (which is defined diffferently depending on the state). A good realtor will direct you to some 1st time Homeowner’s classes because this can help to qualify you for a loan.

Your friends are correct, the time is always now for investing in your future. Which is what you would be doing.

First off, YOU have to decide how much you can afford, how long you intend to stay there, etc.

Once you have decided on that YOU need to pull your own credit report. It doesn’t have to be perfect but it may (will) require you to put some money down.

There are sooooo many grants out there. They mostly favor single mothers and the poor (which is defined diffferently depending on the state). A good realtor will direct you to some 1st time Homeowner’s classes because this can help to qualify you for a loan.

Closing cost are way more than 2-3k pretty lady. Expect at least 8-10K unless you are purchasing a modular home or trailer.

Actually yes. In Louisiana a pretty decent house is from $80K -$150k. If you get into the $250K range your house is either really new and decent size or really really big.

Out here, you can pretty much name your price. The market is pretty bad, but the thing is you buy an undervalued property, collect your payments plus deposits, and along with your tax credits, your payment for a mortgage (if you don’t buy the bldg outright, the mortgage should only be 25% of what you bring in from rental payments). NEVER have a mortgage where you owe all the rental income to the mortgage company. I always leave room, so I can use forextra cash flow, if needed.

For instance, if a commercial property went for $60K, with equity already in it. You would get some business tax credits , along with tax credits and grants to fix up property. You wpuld make your money back in 2-5 years, max. ONly if you buy property BELOW appraised or current value. It has got to be a win on all the taxes, credits, grants before you commit to anything, out here you can pretty much name your pric, it;s damn near a ghost town out here…I;m not mad though, one thing about real estate, it always comes back…

How can anyone read a 1,000 page bill full of government and legal double-speak in one week’s time and be sufficiently knowledgeable to vote on it??? Those are both good questions. I can’t speak for anybody else, but I haven’t forgotten at all. One version of the bill (I believe there are 4?) was up on line–the 1,000 page one to which you refer. But it was not very well publicized to the population at large.

Since this is an issue that matters to me (I’m a future doctor), I dedicated a weekend to reading it. lol it’s long. And there were parts that were very ambiguous or that I flat-out disagreed with. There were also things (tort reform) that I wanted to see, but didn’t.

I’m not an Obama “Kool-Aid Drinker,” but I did support his candidacy and continue to support his presidency. I think health care reform is long overdue, and what better time than now to address the issue.

You’re right though, a lot of peons do refer to “free” health care, which pisses me off. I’ve traveled to many countries, and I feel that this “something for nothing” mentality is uniquely American. lol God bless us

I just heard someone say that it has not gone unnoticed by many people that the first president in the television age to be heckled in this manner is the first black president.

I think it’s going to get worse. White people see Obama as a symbol of the power that is slipping away from them. I believe 2050 has been marked as the year when minorities are expected to be the majority in the U.S. Change is coming, and it’s scaring a lot of people out of their wits.

My concern is, when people are scared — as we have seen in the past — that’s when they can give in to desperation. President Obama has the Secret Service to protect him, but the rest of us don’t.

WELL, It depends on where you live, Donte…FOR EXAMPLE:

Louisiana uses a millage system based on 10% of the assessed value of the home. The millage values are different by parish.
So let’s see, in Bossier I *think* the millage is 83. So that means that roughly 10% of 200K is 20K. There’s a $7,500 homestead exemption so that is 12,500. A millage amount is 1/1000 times the millage value. So take 12,500*83/1000 = $1037.50 <== That's your property tax for the YEAR.

I think I paid like 1500 for the year last year, though…

This summer has been rough for his beleaguered political party. At least he did not end up on the “Republican 2009 Summer of Love” list: Assemblyman, Michael D.
