Teacher Jolita Berry

We must be nearing the end. A Baltimore teacher caught a beatdown on Friday:

“She says the attack began when she told a female student to sit down and behave. As the girl’s friends cheered her on, Berry says the girl hit her in the face.

Berry says her principal told her that telling the student she was going to defend herself triggered the attack.”

The principal had the nerve to blame the teacher for saying she would defend herself? SMH. These kids are coming up wild and unhinged. No one is safe anymore, teachers especially. Something’s got to change. Pretty soon schools are going to be held vigilante style. Everyone will be packin.

    SMH…

  • as seen on t.v.

they need to pay teachers hazard pay because it’s crazy in these schools….

  • Mississippi Girl

You have got to be kidding me! And they wonder why there is a shortage of teachers worldwide!! They already dont pay teachers enough money, and now they have to go to work wondering if they are going to comeback home from beatdown!!! Dang! This all starts from parenting. Parents have to train and properly raise their children.

  • Up2NoGood

UM teach look a little rough herself – I’d hate to see what the kid look like. She took ole gurl on.

  • Doc

where are these kids parents? the need a good beat down.

  • tooty

This is what happens when folks have children and don’t have the mental and financial capacity to raise them right. I guarantee you the girl who did the beating is from a broken family, because no child from a loving family would do this type of sh*t

  • BeautyIsHerName

  • Madam”O”

Teachers have it rough. Teachers are going to need to start carrying mase or a baseball bat in their desks or something.

  • ISIS77

    A Crying Shame.

  • Bohwe

and people complain about the U.S., any other country these criminals would have been canned, executed, put in jail, etc. We are so soft when it comes to these criminals. It’s ashame.

  • noney

hell to the naw! Parents today need to train and raise their kids properly; matter of fact, beat that a**! forget CPS, just beat their a** b/c punishment is nothing. my momma did and I’m just fine! that teacher must’ve had a lot of restraint, b/c I would have gone bonkers on that student. real talk!

  • noney

in addition, if I were a teacher and that ish was going down like that, I would take my ugly stick, or billy stick and beat that kid like her momma should’ve.

  • Southern Belle 225

When I was in school, kids were still getting their asses kicked. Either by:

    The teacher (not so much)

    Or

The principle with that damned paddle (it hurt too!)

If they could start that back up again, we would see a change. But that would never happen because there are lots of ignorant ass parents that defend their bad ass kids! I never understood that. My mother wouldn’t hesitate to kick my ass if the teacher called and she would let the teacher know she could discipline me if it came to it. Back when I was in school, the teachers really connected and had a relationship with the teachers. Now, you can’t pay alot of parents to even go to conference night. So Sad

  • Southern Belle 225

I meant parents connected with teachers.

  • Karen

I’m with MISSISSIPPIGIRL, TOOTY and a few others. It’s all about the PARENTING or lack thereof.

I just can’t wait to see the ignorant mother get on the news talking about how that teacher had NO RIGHT disrespecting her baby and brought it all on herself.

Even the good kids are denied a proper education because of students who act like this animal.

The nerve to raise your hand to an adult.

    WHERE ARE HER CRIMINAL CHARGES?

  • jessica- keeping it real

My dad used to be a teacher and he told me once that he was substituting and a teen tried to step to him wrong and put his hands on him. My dad called him into the hall and dealt with him. He picked that kid up and let him have it. After that the kid learned his place. You can’t do that now a days but it would sure feel good sometimes. I am going to school and I am graduating next year with a degree in teaching. There is no way some punk kid is going to physically assault me and get away with it. We would be scrapping and if the principal had said that to me, we wouldn’t be talking except through my lawyers.

  • http://www.lovingmeans@aol.com 1TruDiva w/ The PlatinumVocals says the concert was OFF THE CHAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is sad in soooo many ways! Kids know the limitations teachers have in dealing with them and they use it to their advantage. Now, if the teacher would’ve beat that child like she was a woman in the streets, then the parents would’ve been all over her and everyone else in the school system!

    I swear to……I would’ve taken that chance!

    This really pisses me off!

When I get home tonight, Ima wake up my 13 year old and beat the breaks off him!!!!!!!

    Just on GP!!!!!

    Lol!!!

  • http://www.lovingmeans@aol.com 1TruDiva w/ The PlatinumVocals says the concert was OFF THE CHAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with the posters who place blame on the parents. But then again, when children get to a certain age, I believe in my heart that there are very few that wouldn’t know that this behavior is flat out WRONG!

Yes–more reason to beat that ass!

  • MJ

I have a few concerns about the teacher. First, why would you tell a kid who is ready to kick your a** to “Back up”?? “Please take your seat” would have been much better because I can guarantee you she didn’t say “Back up” the way it sounded on the Today Show.

Secondly, she never did explain why or how the girl got behind her desk. If this has happened before in the school then she should have know what was about to go down. She said the girl has caused trouble before.

Third, she looks a little rough herself. Given she may be going through some things, but IDK!! I just feel that when I was in school we wouldn’t let just any teacher get yelled at or beat. Some kids would watch, but if the teacher was cool we would step in.

I understand how kids can be today because I was a mess when I was younger. But I will say that when ever I got into it (words not hands) with a teacher, I was seriously provoked. And my 1 friend who did put his hands on a teacher did so because he was belittled, cursed at, and disrespected. I’m not defending the kid, but this teacher is not as innocent as she seems!!

  • http://www.lovingmeans@aol.com 1TruDiva w/ The PlatinumVocals says the concert was OFF THE CHAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    @ MJ–

I see your point. And I will admit that there are some teachers that really don’t have the student’s best interest at heart. At the same time, teaching has changed so much just in the last ten years alone! There are crimes committed on teachers by students that were literally unheard of a few years ago!

It’s a shame that as a teacher, you have to protect yourself against harm from the very children you choose to educate!

Just look at some of the children that are convicted of assulting teachers. What kind of sentencing is normally carried out??? I’ll tell you– they end up at a juvenile dentention center–where they learn skills to master their “crafts” and graduate to more heineous crimes!

  • Chriss

It’s not the location so the comment about its B-more was useless and reckless use of the mouth. This kind of activity is happening everywhere and it’s really sad; I blame the parents as well as the students. Parents have to drop in on their children from time to time to put a little fear in them. The principal is dead wrong and the teacher did right~cause I’m most certain that she could have beat the living hell out of that child but she chose not to for the sake of her career.

  • Dunder Mifflin (Scranton Branch)

Correction…NO, this type of activity/behavior is NOT happening everywhere!!

…I do agree that by saying “it’s Baltimore”, like it should be expected, was not only reckless, but also irresponsible……

  • Dunder Mifflin (Scranton Branch)

why is it the norm for us to be used to this type of behavior?? why does this sit so well with us??

  • kce9751

I wish one of these teachers would be the living crap out of one of these kids. You have crossed the boundaries of being a “child” the moment you put your hands on a grown person. I don’t want kids around me, because if some kid did that to me, it would be involuntary for me to start beating the crap out of them without thought about them being a child. I would not be feeling bad either. Not all kids do this. Children who are taught don’t do this. This is a direct result of not teaching kids, but had that women been crazy like folks are in real life and shot one, she would have been the crazy one. If you really are trying to prepare your child for real life, you tell them “not everyone is sane, and you can lose your life bothering folks that you have no business bothering”. That is a life lesson you teach to kids. Let them go up to a stranger who isn’t quite right or is having a bad day, suicidal and all, man/woman/child/dog/catr would lose their life in behind being stupid. Gosh, if you ever meet kids that were raised, they are gifts, but kids like this are nothing more than a nuisance in a small package.

  • kce9751

MJ….a mess is fine. “A mess” can be handled but killing and beating on folks is not acting “a mess”. That is on your way to getting in the system behavoir. No one has a problem with putting these kids in prison for life when it leads to that and no one cares about them when they get 25 and can’t take care of themselves, but for gods sake don’t spank one. That makes no sense to me. Don’t spank one send him to prison later is fine. Don’t spank one but being unable to take care of yourself at 25 is just alright.

  • anchored mad at the hbo and the wire wack ending

the parents where are they, well you already know. jail, at work, or in iraq. another case where blacks will get the tail end and the media will, hence take the pressure away from the 6 lilly white girls.

  • rayrayischillin

I hope that the teacher presses charges on that hoodrat!!! It’s a damn shame that we have to be afraid of kids these days. I definitely believe that it takes a village to raise a child. All of us need to go to that girl’s house and stomp a mudhole through her a$$!!!!

Hopefully everyone in that classroom will be brought up on charges and tried as adults just like the white kids that beat a clueless classmate’s a$$ and videotaped it.

If you want to act grown, be prepared to accept the consequences of your actions!!!!

  • noneya

wonder why our schools are failing. i’m starting to believe that education is not a right, but a privilege. that ignorant trash does not deserve the luxury of a classroom or access to an education that our ancestors sacrificed and died for. there’s a ho stro and a prison bed waiting for her.

  • Willona Woods

WTF?!?! Some of these young broads are going to run up on the wrong one and catch a beat down or something worse! Where is the respect for grown people? I am in my 30s and in my day my parents, grandparents, aunties, uncles, etc., would have pulled my arm out of the socket and knocked my teeth out (it never happened, but the threat was real) if I EVER looked sideways at any adult let alone speaking reckless to a teacher! We need to go back to ass whoopings and these kids need to calm the f*** down.

  • Raina

Jolita your gonna be fine girl your Morgan State family is behind you. Keep your head up.

  • audacious1

I do not mean to sound ignorant, but there’s no reason why Ms. Berry was rolling around on the floor like that.

The student looked small as hell compared to Ms. Berry, so she should have been able to ACTUALLY defend herself.

  • MsLisa

They need Madea in all classrooms today so someone can be there to beat that ass right. It is a shame that teen think they can buck up to grown today. I work with teens also but I let them know off the bat I will get out there with them and pay the price later. Instill fear in that ass (it worked for me) but you gotta mean it at the same time. Because alot of teens are raising themselves today.

  • soulwoman

Like my mother say, things started to go downhill when they took prayer out of school.

In most cases, the kids are stupid because the parent/s are stupid.

  • MsLisa

@ Jani my chidren come from a boken home and my children have respect for there elders at all times if not they know that moma will be there to help them rember their manners. RESPECT goes a long way around here. Cause I will whope my childs ass any where any time I don’t have time to visit the jails. So make it light on yourself and do what’s right the first time.

  • missdee

I wonder did she defend herself? I would have hit her azz back, she was bad enough to do it! Them kids in B-more haved watched one to many episodes of The Wire!

    Livonia Police: Student Beats Teacher

    By Kiran Chawla

    Story Created: Oct 3, 2007

    Story Updated: Jan 29, 2008

Violence driven by anger — that’s what Pointe Coupee Parish officials are calling the beating of a teacher at Livonia High School. As FOX News Louisiana’s Kiran Chawla Police said the student was responding to his teacher writing him up.

As stated this type of thing happens in other places besides B-More; That’s why this has to be a world-wide effort to correct the wrong that is happening to our children be at white, black, chinese…maybe not chinese, you know what I’m saying. I stress to my son being a single mother the importance of receiving an education now days & for him to act appropriately when he is at school & in public. For some apparent reason some black kids don’t feel threatened if their education is taken away but if you dare to take away an ipod or cell phone that’s when they feel that their world is coming to an end….so sad!

  • Laffy

    @audacious1

I promise I was thinking the EXACT same thing. It seems that the teacher had the weight advantage, and I would like to think that if I were in the same situation, I would have beat that child until the brakes. I know it ain’t right, but it would either be me or that little heifer.

  • nikki

im a high school student and we all dont disrespect teachers it just a few it might not be their parent sits the simple fact they dont want to do nothing with there life so i guess they just mess it up more thinking its cool or something but to me being smart and making it somewhere in life is smart i got big dreams i plan own making them happen no matter what
