Out of Pocket: Serena Curses Out an Official and Loses the US Open

- By Bossip Staff Categories: News, out of pocket

Serena Williams was one point away from winning the US Open but her mouth lost her that one point.

After a linesman call of a foot fault on Serena she went ballistic and cursed the official out…while banging her racket.  According to on-lookers the linesman had been calling foul foot faults all throughout the match and we guess this one took Serena over the edge:

Instead of stepping to the baseline to serve again, Williams went over and shouted and cursed at the line judge, pointing at her and thrusting the ball toward her.

“If I could, I would take this … ball and shove it down your … throat,” Williams said. She continued yelling at the line judge, and went back over, shaking her racket in the official’s direction.

In a press conference, Serena explained her behavior by stating she thought the official said they would take her life, but later she apologized stating it was a huge misunderstanding.

Nothing lost on Serena, she has enough wins under her belt to last a lifetime, but it was good entertainment to see her lash out.

It was a horrible call and a mistake on the official’s part. I woulda been mad too, but she knows better. Unfortunately, you gotta bite you tongue in situations like that, even when you know you’re right.

Correction: Serena wasn’t one point away from winning, it’s the opposite and that’s why she lost! Anything could have happened if she wouldn’t have made that mistake though!

  • Sandra

She should have remained a professional. To say what she said was unacceptable.

  • RazeKane

Damn serena why you had to get all tribal on them…you was getting your azz beat anyway. I guess she knew she was getting beat and this was a way out.

This was very ridiculous, what annoys me is the fact that white americans rooting for a belgian, am not going to hate, kim played beautifully but Serena should have checked the attitude and could have won the game.

A most unfortunate incident. I just hope that Serena will learn from this experience and control her emotions if a similar situation arises in the future.

I’m sad that she has came back to this. Who remembers her and Venus years back when they were still new. They used to cuss out officials all the time. Need to learn to lose with dignity.

damn shame they props tired of her winning it All the time jokes no but really i think she acted immature sum1 said about her throwing the racket i was like whoa are we having a hissy fit i hope she learns from this

  • TheDamnJudge

The judge called a RARE default PPL. I would b upset too. . . .I bet there is something else between Serena and the judge. . . y else would she make such a rare default a big deal in such a big match?!?!?

    Think about it.

  • Nolieshere

Kim was in command of the match but Serena clearly did not foot fault. I think she was set up to lose. They did this to her years ago at USO. Serena should have taken it up wit the umpire and ask for an over-rule. At any rate, she is still the greatest and by all means will prove it at her next tournament.Very unfortunate situation!

  • Ann

Leave Serena alone. You know they hate her and Venus because they win everything. They were just looking for something to make it look legitimate to
have the white girl be the winner.
Serena will be back and will kick much ass, And for the record. I would have cursed them out too!!

  • Lakeshow

Serena was not the forst to crac her racket or cuss outn a judge. She was actually losing and the erroneous call sent her over the edge. She lost the match…..next

Too bad to see the match end this way. Players are always upset when they called for foot faults but you’ve got to deal with it and keep playing. Serena had been foot faulting a lot all tournament and was getting really beaten up on her 2nd serve so it wouldn’t be surprising if she tried to put a bit extra on the serve, pushed forward too much, and touched the line. She’s done it too many times in the past two weeks for it to be unlikely. A camera from the side or front would show clearly but I’ve only seen the angle from behind, which is the only angle that’s not conclusive. But either way, you need to deal with it and play the next point. And if you have a problem, take it up with the chair umpire, don’t swear at a line judge. They really had no choice but to give her a code violation.

  • deesac

Well if you have followed the games this year there doing anything possible to get her and her sister out of the finals it’s a shame but we still wanna follow and love white folks how nice.

  • lala

LOL, she wasn’t one point from winning the US Open. She was losing, and the lost point made her lose quicker. She was actually ONE point from losing the US Open.
