Alicia Puts It Down
Posted by Bossip Staff
Alicia shares her views on “gangsta rap”:
“The Grammy-winning singer-songwriter tells Blender magazine: ‘Gangsta rap’ was a ploy to convince black people to kill each other. ‘Gangsta rap’ didn’t exist.’
Keys, 27, said she’s read several Black Panther autobiographies and wears a gold AK-47 pendant around her neck ‘to symbolize strength, power and killing ’em dead,’ according to an interview in the magazine’s May issue, on newsstands Tuesday.
Another of her theories: That the bicoastal feud between slain rappers Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G. was fueled ‘by the government and the media, to stop another great black leader from existing.’”
Bravo to AK for keeping it real and honest. We hope to hear more of these sentiments in future tracks. We just have one question for you Alicia, which one of the two fellows are you referring to as a “great black leader”?

Um, alicia is stupid.
First!
Damn you Versace! You stole my glory, you worthless cur!
And like a bunch of idiots Rappers fell for the old okie doke. Don’t blame the man and the system when you are conscious of what they are doing and yet still fall for the trap. That’s called being ignorant!
I didn’t know the government was in the brains of eric b and rakim, afrikan bambada, beastly boy’s, tupac, biggie, nwa, and host of others to help them rhyme poetry to come up with that theory.
Shouldn’t she be somewhere eating somebody’s ***** then talking jibberish?
I think I like AK a bit more after reading that.. Good to know she’s not complacent.
LOL! Is she implying that these two dead thugs with recording contracts could’ve been the next great black leaders of our generation?
This stupid deluded dyke needs to stick to her day job, performing her derivative Teena Marie-style ghetto lament tripe, that p*****es for entertainment for the m*****es, and leave the deep thinking to the professionals.
Oh for *****s sake. In what *****ing way were Biggie or Tupac “great black leaders”? They were just rappers. What an insult to people like Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Nelson Mandela.
I can’t remember the last time i had an important moral or ethical decision to make and i quickly reached for a tupac album.
And furthermore, what an isult to black people that she is conveying the idea that without recording artists such as those she mentioned, young black children wouldnt be able to find the inspiration to become “great leaders”.
idiot.
Ms keys is right. THANK GOD SOME ONE SPEAKS THERE MIND AND HAS AN OPINION. GANGSTA RAP WAS CREATED BY
BLACK MEN WHO WROTE ON WHAT THEY SAW AS A REALITY
EVERY DAY LIVING IN HELL AND SO WHITE PEOPLE SAW IT
AS A MARKETING TOOL TO DRAW PEOPLE IN AND SHOW
AMERICA HOW BARBARIC BLACK PEOPLE ARE. AND YES
MUSIC DOES INFLUENCE EVERYBODY AND SOMETIMES PEOPLE
ACT ON IT IT’S THE IGNORANCE FACTOR ….
YES SHE IS RIGHT . THOMAS JEFFERSON ONCE SAID
IGNORANT PEOPLE WILL NEVER BE FREE… THINK ABOUT IT
@ dimple pink
Cosign!! People love to hate on Alicia, but those cash stacks speak for themselves! She has a lot more intellect than many of other chicks in the game!
Obviously she was talking about Tupac.
he was a leader. And everyone on here talking mess about how he was just a thug is the true idiot here. Get educated. Read about this man. Get a clue you dumb *****es.
VERSACE–SINCE WHEN WERE THE RAPPERS YOU MENTIONED CONSIDERED “GANGSTA RAPPERS”
SHE IS RIGHT IN THE FACT THAT THE MEDIA HYPED THE EAST AND WEST COAST WARS AND CREATED MORE TENSION THAN THERE WAS…MAYBE SOME OF YOU ARE TO YOUNG TO REMEMBER THE MEDIAS ROLE..ITS THE SAME WAY THEY SET TENSION BETWEEN THE HISPANICS AND BLACKS NOW ADAYS
AND TUPAC WAS TRYING TO CREATE A MOVEMENT ..HISMOTHER AND STEPFATHER WERE PANTHERS AND HE WAS VERY STRATEGIC WITH THE MESSAGE HE WAS TRYING TO MAKE..MAYBE SOME OF YOU SHOULD WATCH HIS DO*****ENTARY TO SEE WHAT :THUG LIFE” REALLY WAS TO HIM..AS FAR AS BIGGIE..I DONT SEE LEADER..BUT PAC FOR SURE WAS TRYING TO DO SOMETHING AND GOT SHUT DOWN…
ITS SAD WHEN AN SRTIST ACTUALLY HAS SOME INTELLIGENCE AND YALL THINK OF EVERY REASON TO SHUT THEM DOWN..AND AS FAR AS BEING LEADERS ..MUSICIANS HAVE A LOT OF INFLUENCE ON YOUNG PEOPLE AND IF THEY HAD MORE POSITIVE MESSAGES..MORE POSITIVE WOULD COME FROM IT..YOU GOT MILLIONS OF KIDS TALKIN BOUT SUPER SOAKING OH’ AND BEING IN LOVE WITH STRIPPERS..OVER LOVING THEMSELVES AND RESPECTING WOMEN….
Fox News was talking about Alicia comments, the other day. They were heavily clowning her for her thoughts.
But, I have to say that I agree with her to a certain extent. Still, while the government hasn’t always been on our side, it is way past time for us to help ourselves.
We need to stop waiting on somebody else to save us, and realize that we are already powerful people. We just need to unite, and put that power to some good use.
hahaha the next great black leaders wtf.i find this more insulting to black people than anybody else… stick to ur music dont get into politics
BTW LMFAO @ THE BOSSIP IS WHITE DUDE
I BELIEVE PUTTING US IN GHETTOS THEN.
WE SUCKED FROM THERE TIT WITH WELFARE CHECKS
AND GOVT AID, THEN WE HAVE OUR MUSIC TO TELL US OTHER *****’S IS WEARING THE WRONG COLOR SO YOU HAVE TO KILL HIM, NOT ONLY THAT IN THE LATE 80′S
DRUGS WIPED OUT HALF OUR POPULATION AND MADE CRACK HEAD MAMAS SO WHO IS WILL TEACH THE KIDS IF THE MOTHER IS DRUGGED OUT AND DADDY ISN’T HOME WELL THE LOCAL HOMEBOY WHO IS IN A GANG OR HE’S A DOPE BOY SO YOU CAN SEE HOW THE CYCLE NEVER ENDS. THEN WE HAVE THE MUSIC THAT TELLS US THERE’S NO WAY OUT.
*****ES AINT ***** AND KILL YOUR BROTHER. SO YES WE ARE A *****ED UP CYCLE AND I BELIEVE IF TUPAC WAS STILL HERE HE WOULD BE A GREAT LEADER
@ tupac
You shallow ***** *****tard. Are you that out of touch with reality? How was that dead ***** a leader and spokesman for black people? Now if you mean spokes person for gangbangers and clueless hoodrats like yourself, then you’re right…But don’t dare to presume that monkey was appointed the black conscious for responsible, intelligent, law-abiding, tax paying, rational black human beings. As Nita said. That’s an “INSULT”
LOL! Is she implying that these two dead thugs with recording contracts could’ve been the next great black leaders of our generation?
This stupid deluded dyke needs to stick to her day job, performing her derivative Teena Marie-style ghetto lament tripe, that p*****es for entertainment for the m*****es, and leave the deep thinking to the professionals
=================================
LMAO I’m not a die hard A. Keys fan but oh my! How u come w/ her being a “deluded dyke” ? I guess I miss the news on that one. But that was hilarious!
Alicia was high when she made this statement. A retraction statement from her PR rep will be issused VERY SOON.
@OK
can u get her rep to also put out a statement about the “gay” rumors. Inquiring minds wanna know.
shakakahn, to white people anyone that is black is a gangsta rapper. Just because the government handed drugs to the poor neighborhoods doesn’t’ mean black men have to take them and use them. Where is the sense of right and wrong, keeping busy in school, parents controlling them, women just letting losers ***** in their ***** and wonder why they have 10 babies and on welfare? It’s the government fault for that too? Their home life was bad and they wrote about that. People keep complaining that there are more black men in jail than school but how did they get there? How dare a black men think they will get away with the majority of things white people do. The government, cops don’t like blacks anyway and if blacks don’t have money they are going to jail. What about showing respect and be an honest citizen. Drugs didn’t start yesterday it has been here since the beginning of time. Again, I didn’t know the government was in the brains of any of any of these rappers when they were writing out lyrics. I didn’t know children of today was so inspired by tupac and biggie if they are then we really are in trouble. The can’t be inspired by Nelson Mandela, Arthur Ashe, the owner of black enterprise and host of other black and hispanic men that have done well for themselves.
And why all caps, are u screaming your point.
Shut up, Alicia.
While the media DID hype, the whole east/west coast thing…so did the Biggie and Tupac (and the black media). I doubt the GOVERNMENT was behind two people (and their crew) acting a fool and getting each other killed.
I’m insulted that she would say these two RAPPER, could somehow be leaders in the black community. They didn’t really do ***** while they were here, but spread ignorance (may they rest in peace).
Bossip is getting lame. They keep using the same pictures over and over again… and wear is Rihanna?
*rappers
Typical. Blame the White man for everything that goes wrong in your life. Sorry folks. White people are concerned about issues in our lives. Careers, bills, health, family, love lives, are issues we’re concerned about and not keeping the Black man down. Stop blaming others for your problems.
I don’t agree with the statement, either.
But STFU “LISA”.
Can you highlight were she said anything about this so called “white man”?
I like her jacket…
how come tupac couldnt have been a leader in the black community? in his earlier years yea, he was hood r whateva but he later really began to speak on race, politics, government and education so why can’t he be called a leader? the police, shuge, r whoever didnt start hating him r wanting him dead until he started speaking on things beside’s, sex, drugs and shooting
Keep up, Bossip.
I read this ***** last week, on a white gossip site.
Alicia keep you’re mouth closed, and keep writting your corny love songs.
At least it’s an educated *****certion and she’s not dumb she went to columbia university like at 17 years old.
Hmmmmm, I dunno about this one!
Art imitates life, not vice versa.
Gangstas were killing each other, THEN songs were written about it.
@ Woha
Alicia did single out the white media…And since the white media is predominately ran by white males, Lisa’s point is valid in a metaphorical sense.
AK sounds like a moron, but trust Bossip to agree with her and her dumb***** conspiracy theory just because it’s about black people. Why the hell would the government be interested in some hyped up ***** between 2 rappers? The media maybe but the government?? Even if this was the case the expression you can lead a horse to water but you can’t make him drink comes to mind. Or are we as black people too stupid to think for ourselves and know right from wrong.
@ummm?
how come tupac couldnt have been a leader in the black community?
————————————————
Tupac we not be remembered as a leader in a majority of the black community, because he did nothing to earn that title. Tupac was just a rapper. For every song he had talking about the issuses concerning Black America, he had 10 talking about complete bull*****.
The fact that so many want to bulid up as one of the black communities last hopes, is just sad and depressing.
Marquis de Sade
@ Woha
Alicia did single out the white media…And since the white media is predominately ran by white males, Lisa’s point is valid in a metaphorical sense.
***************************************************
Maybe it is because this is such a moronic statement, that I refuse to contemplate what she did or didn’t mean; but were does she point out the “white media” (in particular) as the culprits in the east/west coast stupidity.
@ BOSSIP IS WHITE OWNED AND STIRS UP *****!
Get a job *****. Ain’t *****ody goin’ to your Young, Black and Fabulous ***** ***** site. Get over it. How many sites with positive messasges about black love, white love, mexican love, asian love are sucessful? None! People love controversy, negativity and drama! – Especially when it’s happening to other people. Now be a nice unemployed ***** *****, and ***** off!
its true, i looked it up online, who the ***** are these fools anyway. i want to know.
@ Spanky & BOSSIP LIES AKA BOSSIP IS WHITE OWNED AND STIRS UP *****!
What are you exposing *****? It’s been public knowledge that BOSSIP is white owned. This is America, *****tard…Meanin’ that this is a free enterprise. If you want to corner the Black Internet Gossip Market, who’s stopping you? – Just don’t think that you’re going to convince people that your product is better, based solely on your etnicity. It’s 2008! …And despite popular belief, us colored folks thinking is a tab bit mo’ progressive. Now i reiterate – BE A NICE UNEMPLOYED ***** *****, AND ***** OFF!
She is entitled to her views and she is entitled to speak them publicly. My opinion is that neither Tupac and certainly not Biggie were leaders of any kind. Pac was a visionary and extremely gifted poet, but not a leader. Biggie was just a regular guy from the hood who would have been in and out of prison before settling down in a regular 9 to 5 had Puffy not “saved” him from the hood.
The blogger Marquis de Sade IS bossip.
Spoog is the pathetic unemployed ***** ***** BOSSIP IS WHITE OWNED AND STIRS UP *****! AKA Young, Black and *****galiscious!
Back then, black artists didn’t realize the true power of the media, who was sleeping with large portions of the government and powerful people. They used large portions of “Gangsta Rap” as story distractions from other wrong doings in the country. You know the “Wag the Dog” theory (google it!) Many black artists were in survival mode. Biggie and Tupac had the “it” factor. They had control, power over the m*****es who listened to them. “Gangsta Rap” was a term used to describe “NWA” who openly spoke about police abuses, etc., in their lives. Even though there were many brothers and sisters also screamed ***** murder about the offensives in LA, it did not get the attention needed until NWA came on the scene and blasted the world like a AK-47 to the brain. Another example, you live in the hood and you see airplanes flying over your crib, so close you can lick the bottom of them, so close you can see a white man mouth the N-Word to you. That doesn’t happen in rich hoods because they don’t want that to happen. That’s rich people, government power and that’s Gangsta! Alicia (damn she looks like Lena Horne’s twin, fine!) is partially correct but the truth goes a lot deeper. I love it when a fine ***** girl speaks the truth! It’s so effen hot! And kiddies, just because she’s mixed she’s still entitled to her opinion. For I’m in the same boat.
Alicia is thinking and that is a start.
Malcom X was a thug in his young years and evolved into one of our greatest leaders.
Some have questioned the personal ethics of Dr. King and he was one of our greatest leaders.
Notorious BIG was pioneering the future of political poetry and may very well grown into a great leader.
Tupac descends from radical pioneers and he also may have been on his way to great leadership.
When two young black men articulate their experience on a global stage, it is a threat to the status quo. These young brothers were not just rappers they were a voice and a voice that earned millions and if you think the US government did not find that threatening…
then you only need to look at hpw hip hop and popular black culture have evolved since their *****asinations….
Flavor of Love, once a member of the most prolific poltical rap voice Public Enemy is now a minstrel show with Buckwheat styling being called fuffi by Sylvester Stallone’s ex-wife.
I just pray for Alicia that she is careful where and with whom she shares her views. She is a brilliant talent yet with a global audience yet not above the governments backlash.
Our biracial brothers and sisters have always brung it… Huey P. Newton and Bob Marley just to start…
Wake up people and recognize when one of stars puts themselves on the line to shed some light on the possibilities of the extent of our governments hatred for and interest in silencing our voices.
Halle’s a closet radical too.
Post script – I wouldn’t say that Tupac or Biggie would have been a “great black leaders”. Then again, look at the douchebag Mayor in Detriot. I feel that they were better at exposing serious issues that had to do with black, brown people living in a white world.
This is a very stupid statement, Alicia need to just STFU!
Marquis de Sade
Damn you Versace! You stole my glory, you worthless cur!

“Bravo to AK for keeping it real and honest”(?!)
Don’t forget STUPID too BOSSIP. Beyond the fact that she has the right to say anything she wishes…NOTHING she’s quoted as saying is defensible as being intelligent on ANY level.
AK was saying what she thought the readers of that magazine wanted to hear. She’s not stupid…I don’t think ?!
You all should listen to a song by Ice Cube called “Gangsta Rap Made Me Do It” (youtube) he addresses the issue of putting the blame on Gangsta rap. When Harpo did her “town hall meeting” on rap she should have allowed the people who she is pointing the finger at to take part, but no she would rather allow Superhead on her show to promote her book SMH.

I LOVE ALICIA “AK-47″ KEYS!!!
I HAD NOT BOUGHT HER ALBUM.
BUT I WILL NOW.
SHE NEEDS OUR LOVE AND SUPPORT AS SHE TAKES THIS BOLD STEP OUT OF THE VANILLA SAFETY ZONE.
ARTISTS ARE NOT POLITICIANS, THEY SPEAK FROM THE HEART AND NOT THE HEAD.
I’M SURE SHE HAS ALOT OF PENT UP ANGER, AGRESSION, PAIN, DESIRE, FRUSTRATION, LUST, AND ENERGY THAT SHE DOES’NT KNOW HOW OR IS AFRAID TO LET OUT.
I WISH HER ALL THE BAST AND AM HERE FOR HER
PS: KEEP BOYCOTTING THE T.O. FLAVA POST!!!
THERE IS NO EATHLY REASON FOR IT………..
she’s so dead-on…
altho I believe the gov’t did more to fuel that fued.
Our gov’t doesnt want any specific group or person to have too much influence……good or bad!
shaking my damn head at this foolishness
Yep, Keyes has finally gone over the deep end. Say hello to Lauren Hill over at camp brainfreeze you overrated neo-soul star.
Biggie was into drugs and Tuac got whacked by the Crips. Bossip is just one in a string of marketing sites that caters to certain ethnicities.
And of course, just like yahoo movie review, ect, a lot of the comments on this site are inhouse to back of the obviously stupid comments made by these stars..
I never bought any of that *****es music and never will. It sucks. Abril Lavgne( I know I spelled it very wrong, sorry) sold more than this hoe(like 17 million copies) and on her first try.
*****s fall for anything, Jim Jones, Micheal Jackson, R Kelly. ***** all them and this dumb site.
ATTN: Boosip Editors, I don’t buy any of the products advertised here.
Light out!
I find it so funny that her mother actually is white (which does NOT make her white for all of you confused biracials out there talkin’ that “why do I have to choose which race I wana be bull***** lol!!! The choice has already been made for you??), yet she is TRUELY a black woman where as Beyonce is FULL black, yet her and jigga have been blinded by the lights that they sing about on that horrible Kingdom Come album??!!!
Alicia knows what she is…
Beyonce crossed over and forgot and has Jay believing cuz he did remix album with Lincoln Park that they are not “as black” as the rest of us SMDH!!! I didn’t want to believe it, but they have proved me wrong for the last 4 years!!!
Don’t believe the hype!!!! What’s that age-old adage? “Don’t *****ume, because when you do, you make an a$s out of you and me” – and I do believe that this quote was clearly taken out of context, much like the 15 sec. clip of Barrack Obama’s preacher, Rev. Jeremiah Wright. Alicia Keys is clearly an intelligent woman with her own views on the world, so this quote does not shock me in that sense. However, at the same time, I believe if we are trying to incriminate or label a person as militant, etc. you owe to her to read the ENTIRE ARTICLE…not just a snippet, because you might be shocked that the complextion of the article is ENTIRELY different from what the quote lead others to believe.
OK HAS ANY ONE EVER HEARD BEYONCE GIVE HER OPINION ABOUT ANY THING *****ING ROBOT
AND THE IDIOT WHO CALLED ALICIA STUPID WHY DON’T U JUST KILL YOSELF AND WHAT PART OF WHAT HOMEGIRL SAID WAS FOOLISHNESS ?? I SWEAR SOMETIMES MY PEOPLE EMBARR***** ME FOR BEING SO *****ING STUPID WHAT SHE SAID WAS REAL TALK YOU DAMN IDOTS ! KEEP HATIN *****ES
I WAS JUS ON A WHITE WEB SITE
THEY CALLING HER ALL TYPES OF RACIST NAMES
PUTTING HER DOWN WE HAVE TO LIFT ALICIA UP SHE IS AN AMAZING TALENT AND IF ANYBODY READ THE ARTICLE
SHE DOES NOT SAY ANYTHING RACIST YOU GO GIRL
Ms Keys is right, Tupac did speak on some issues pertaining to black people and the government. The government does not like anything or anyone that encourages self pride, self empowerment and enlightenment among black people, they want to keep black people “dumbed down”.
In regards to her theory,” that the bicoastal feud between slain rappers Tupac Shakur and Notorious BIG was fueled by the government and media to stop another great black leader from existing” is not far fetched at all.. During the civil rights movement of the 60’s that’s exactly what the government(cointelpro) did to disrupt and stop that movement. The government would put their people at different rallies and events to cause disturbances, since it ws suppose to be a peaceful movement, thus giving the movement negative press, using the old strategy “divide and conquer”.
Tupac was a young man when he died, he might have become that “great black leader”, Ms. Keys was speaking of. If you remember Malcom X was very much into the worldly ways of the world before he became one of our most influential black leaders.
correction *was*
Damn, ya’ll doing the most.
I think Pac was an inspiration to most. He spoke about shyt that very few had experienced let alone had the guts to talk about. I now know others made conscious songs but my life was changed when I had first heard keep ya head up. He was speaking to women on a level that most men were scared to. And yea, he had the ‘I Get Around’ and ‘How Do you want it’ but at least he had the guts to explain himself and I agree w/ him (What Pac Said) “there are not just women like his momma or the women he’s talking bout in ‘keep ya head up’ in this world..There are some scanlouz females and disrespectful women here too and I’m speaking about all of em not just one.”
I commend Alicia Keys for speaking her opinion. Ya’ll all hate to damn much but at least AK is makin her hata quota for the rest of millinium w/ ya’ll
Right now, Alicia is souding dumb. She needs to get into the specifics and bring out concrete facts. You can’t just say that gansta rap was a ploy and leave it at that. Who created it? how? when? strategies?…
STAY IN SCHOOL KIDS!!!!!
She needs to stop, and stick to singing like she is Thirsty!
And the only thing that it look like she put down..is that PROACTIVE! honey…pick that ***** back up, and work it in slow! OK
and If youngstas..are stupid enough to believe everything that they hear..their parents must not be doing a good job! When I grew up..all I listened to was NWA and LUKE
that didn’t turn me into a bank robber, a w*****, a ***** shaker, I mean..comeon..she want some exposure because she got a taste of that white life! Besides her mother!
this some old bull*****! that ***** aint true. ***** shut the ***** up!
Tupac a leader? Black people are the only group of people that idolize criminals/thugs. “Street Cred” that’s what you call it, right? Blacks should be rallying behind Black teachers, doctors, lawyers, etc. However, these types of educated Black people are considered “sell-outs” or accused of “acting White”.
This mentality is what you holds you back. Can’t blame Whitey for all your problems.
@ Lisa
You’ve been voted off the island, Lisa, with your Darwin award winning comment “Black people are the only group of people that idolize criminals/thugs. “Street Cred” that’s what you call it, right?”
Why don’t you do something constructive like attend a Klan rally or something similar where you can expound upon your whack generalizations with other simple minded people. You might actually make some friends there.
As for Alicia, I don’t agree with what she said. But I want to hear her elaborate. Look how Billary are twisting Obama’s comments in San Fran. AND YES WE CAN! BARACK THE VOTE
These are my leaders: my parents, my family, Garvey, King, Malcolm, and lest I forget– Jesus, you should try him.
There are a lot of people on this post that are desperately and harshly trying to discredit Alicia
Keys. She gave us food for thought, research it to determine it’s validity. Don’t tar and feather the messenger.
Oh yea, BARACK OBAMA PRESIDENT 2008!! YES WE CAN!!
EVERYONE HAS AN OPINION AND SHE IS USING HER 1ST AMENDMENT RIGHT TO STATE IT. GET OVER IT.
Straight up paranoid nonsense. People will look anywhere to keep from looking in the mirror. If Gangsta rap was a ploy it was a ploy inspired if not conspired by black people. And they didn’t need any convincing to kill one another. She needs to speak on Hell’s Kitchen where she knows what’s up Newark is another story.
And also the east coast west coast thing was sparked by the entertainment industry to sell records. The government came in later.
ALICIA IS SMART ENOUGH TO SEE BEYOND THE SURFACE. MOST OF THE PEOPLE ON THIS POST IS NOT. SHE WAS REFERRING TO 2PAC AS BEING A LEADER. I’VE BEEN SAYING FOR YEARS THAT THE GOVERNMENT WAS BEHIND PACS DEATH AND THE FOLLOWING QUESTION WILL VARIFY MY POINT.
IF 2PAC WAS ALIVE AND GOT ON TELEVISION AND SAID “I WANT ALL MY ***** IN THE HOOD TO STOP DRINKING PEPSI UNTIL THEY STOP PUMPING MONEY INTO OUR SCHOOL SYSTEMS!!!”
HOW MANY PEOPLE IN THE HOOD DO YOU THINK WOULD CONTINUE TO DRINK PEPSI? LET THAT MARINATE FOR A MINUTE.
BUY THE WAY I MENT TO SAY “START PUMPING MONEY INTO OUR SCHOOL SYSTEMS” IN THE 2PAC QUOTE, MY BAD
Anyone in here saying Alicia’s an idiot is A *****ING idiot…Pac was 25 at the time of his death…What was Mandela doing at 25??? Malcolm X??? Don’t act stupid, half of you are playing into Uncle Cracker’s hands….You all are the Sambos, Pickaninnies, and Uncle Toms….idiots
Disrespecting an intelligent woman giving a VALID point…How ignorant are U all?
And I’m from Newark, ***** just look up my city for 2 mins….mind you Jersey is one of the 3 richest states in the Union…The government has a hand in EVERYTHING Black….
@ The Kid
The problem with your supposition is that Tupac did not say that… he was too busy expounding on the joys of smoking marijuana. Now let that marinate… and tell me why exactly the government would be scared of a paranoid irrational tortured psuedo poet with no real ambition outside of making money that is/was miniscule in the eyes of corporate america?
@ All you conspiracy nutjobs
If feels better for you to blame the government on the deaths of Tupac or BIG, then go ahead…But the reality is, they were did in by the same violent culture that they glorified, exploited and benefited financially from. To think otherwise is pure lunacy that rivals the state of denial that those rednecks are under in regards to their Elvis sightings.
Tupac and BIG, died as they lived – AS STUPID *****S! DEAL WITH IT AND MOVE ON!
Are black people really dumb enough to think of Tupac as a leader. That’s like white folks saying Bruce Springstein was a leader.
Barack Obama- leader
even Jesse Jackson- leader
Tupac Shakur – artist… either great rapper or bad poet… either way socially irrelevant beyond the small minds that ponder his rather simplistic musings and counter intuitive counter productive cries for revolution and simultaneous advocacy of self destructive behavior… DON’T GET ME STARTED. I’m tired of these socio-paths being lauded as heroes. Get an f’in clue black people.
Oooops! *DONE IN*
@TJ YOU MISSED THE POINT. THEY RECOGNIZED HOW MUCH OF AN INFLUENCE PAC HAD ON THE BLACK COMMUNITY. TO THIS DAY IF YOU GO INTO ANY HOOD BARBER SHOP AND DIS PAC YOU MIGHT GET YA ***** BEAT.
WITH THAT BEING SAID ALL IT WOULD HAVE TO TAKE IS FOR PAC TO CHANGE HIS MESSAGE FOR A POSITIVE IMPACT. IF HE WAS STILL ALIVE THAT WOULD CONTINUE TO BE A POSSIBLE THREAT.
WHY DO YOU THINK THEY WANT TO DUMB DOWB HIP HOP TO THE POINT WHERE IT DIES? IT’S BECAUSE THEY REALIZED THAT IF ANOTHER ARTIST WITH A STRONG INFLUENCE LIKE PAC ARRIVES AGAIN IT WILL BE ANOTHER THREAT TO THEIR AGENDA.
What is their agenda? and who is they?
The only people holding those crazy people in the ghetto who look to pac as a leader down is them and their own belief. It’s paranoia.
If Pac had changed his message to a positive one the government would have welcomed it (see Jocelyn Elders, and Bill Bennetts crusade against gangster rap circa 93′) What kills me about these people who try and make the government out to be the kkk is that you can never tell me what exactly the government is doing to “hold you down” it’s always vague and often uninformed reflections on black history that have no real nor lasting bearing on the present.
@ The Kid
What black community are you talking about – Gangbangers, hoodrats, or your typical garden variety *****ups?
Trust me, my out-of-touch Tupac sycophant, the real black community and the country abroad, are concerned with more pressing matters, suchas the state of their 401k plans, Roth IRA’s, day to day living expenses, healthcare, etc, etc, etc.
The last thing any rational human being would concern themselves with, is a damn gangsta rapper, let alone a dead one. – GET A CLUE!
alicia just like every American has the right to express their opinion.
i cant say i agree with her until i take the time to read the complete article. agreeing with her or disagreeing would be just as ignorant a as someone who only saw the 30 sec clip of Rev. Wright & labeled him as a rascist when the media didnt bother to say this is only a brief clip and he said many other things in his sermon.
The media did play a role in the East Coast v. West Coast fued. Tons of magazines had Biggie & Puffy and Tupac and other West Coast rappers on the covers discussing the feud in the articles.
The goverment was not behind tupac’s death..SUGE was! Suge got that ***** shot up..because he wanted to leave the label, and was talking loudly, and openly about it, and Reports said ” that Suge was Really Upset about that” So.. That is what I think of that.
AGAIN..I think that People can distinguish themselves from Gangsta rap, and the real them!
If somebody was to kill somebody, and blame it on gangsta rap..that would be Ludicrous. That would be a waek minded person! I think that she had a right to say what she wanted to say, but at the end of the day..stick to what she do best, and that is write, sing, and be huggeds up with KC!
SIT DOWN!
* The media did play a role in the East Coast v. West Coast feud*
I agree what most of Alica is sayin. Tupac was a leader for black folks, but a lot of people looked up to him. Tupac knew a lot, and it is my belief the government had something to do with his murder, whether directly or indirectly. Has anyone heard of “ILLUMINATI”. LOOK IT UP PEOPLE. That who is really running *****, and Tupac knew that. It was only a matter of time when he would start speaking on it. Rappers have a lot of influence. They MUST take responsibilty for what they say. Just imagine if rappers spoke on positive ***** all the time, the positive INFLUENCE they would have on people. There is not enough positive music out here, and there are too many mininformed people.
Why am I blamed for everything???? When we do things wrong as individuals we must accept responsibility. If Bobby shoots Becky we do not blame the “black man.” We blame Bobby! So why is it when Tyrone shoots Ray Ray for a $20 bag of rock we get the blame. We did not make Tyrone and Ray Ray parti*****te in those activities so stop blaming us for their results. If some how Barack Obama wins the presidential election is he going to also blame the white man for his mistakes??? Start thinking with logic folks and quit making excuses for your lazy ***** souls!!!!!
AND FOR THE RECORD, THOSE THAT DONT KNOW, THE MEDIA IS THE BIGGIST PROPOGADA MACHINE EVER CREATED, AND AN INSURMOUNTABLE AMOUNT OF INFLUENCE OVER EVERYTHING. DO YOUR RESEARCH PEOPLE. ILLUMINATI AND BILEDERBERG GROUP. ELEVATE AND EDUCATE, WE BEEN SLEEP LONG ENOUGH. IN MY EYES ALICIA IS RIGHT ON A LOT OF LEVELS.
I doubt if hip hop was sending a positive message, the powers that be would oppose it some way. Because a lot of hip hop is negative, the let the artist continue to spew negative messages. Music is a powerful voice of communication with people, and because a lot of rappers came from nothing, their lyrics will express the same. Just look at albums sale. 50 Cent is one of the highest selling artist, and he hardly has a postive message.
Look at history. in the 70’s there where a lot of psycadelic bands, white boys who got high on LSD all the time and was against the Vietnam war. High Crakers with a message about peace. The Govt didnt like it and started lining em up arresting them. THE SAME WOULD NOT HAPPEN TO US BECAUSE, A LOT OF RAP CONTINUES TO SPEW A NEGATIVE IMAGE AND MESSAGE. wHATEVER SELLS RIGTH? UNTIL WE REALIZE MORE POSITIVE MUSIC MUST BE MADE, RAP WILL CONTINUE TO AFFECT OUR COMMUNITY IN A NEGATIVE WAY
Alicia is smoking something, I can tell. But I wonder who gave it to her, hmmmm…probably some lesbian dealer in down town LA…Poor thang!
Vote Hillary Clinton please!
HOLLYWOOD BS
Alicia is smoking something, I can tell. But I wonder who gave it to her, hmmmm…probably some lesbian dealer in down town LA…Poor thang!
**************************************************
I bet it was Hillary Clinton.
@LALALA…I’m Not Listening
You sound so misinformed. Do your research.
I don’t get this..great leaders? When did being a thug who just happened to write great poetry make you a great leader? If that’s the case then half the brothas in prison are great leaders.lol. I thought Alicia Keys was smart.
@Stacy Dee
In my eyes not necessarily a leader but an influence in essence what breeds leadership. Millions of peolple listened to his music, and he was knowledgle
Tupac wrote great poetry? Please! John Donne wrote great poetry! Paul Lawrence Dunbar wrote great poetry, Maya Angelou wrote great poetry. Tupac wrote silly as non-sensical limericks recited to a beat to dance or drive-by shoot to.
SexyBacks @1:53p, you said it best and Terry @3:47p you hade the funniest line: “Yep, Keyes has finally gone over the deep end. Say hello to Lauren Hill over at camp brainfreeze.” And TJ @6:13 pm – I totally agree.
This is a typical case of a light-skin black girl who feels a need to prove her blackness. Can’t get more black than wearing a gold AK47 around your neck. Alicia may have attended Columbia but surely she didn’t graduate. I wonder how much Alicia was around black people when growing up. I think her mom raised her and now she’s playing catchup to her “black” side.
I understand they were good rappers and all but the only people they were going to lead were the thugs and hoochies, from the club to the hotel.
At the time of their deaths they weren’t in the process of doing anything worthwhile. Nothing to help the black community rise above the situations that they rapped about in their songs.
She was over reaching with that statement. But she’s young, so I’ll let her have a p*****.
Next great black leaders. HA!
@ Stacy Dee
when did we lower our educational and cultural standards to the point where Tupac can be considered a “great poet”… We went from Phyllis Wheatley, Paul Lawrence Dunbar, Langston Hughes, James Baldwin, and Nikki Giovanni to Tupac and Biggie!?!? Come again!?
How can anyone read Morrison, Baldwin, or even Saul Williams and call Tupac an intellectual? My guess is people can’t. Which means our kids aren’t reading true black poets and are so starved for intellect and philosophy that they settle for the very superficial self serving pompous rantings of a paranoid socio-path simply because he looks like them… or more accurately what they want to look like someday.
Sarafina I think you and I are on the same point.
Tupac! A leader! A leader straight to hell… literally and figuratively.
It’s become cliche but in this case SMH SMH SMGDH
Can someone kindly tell me what “SMH” and “SMHD” mean? Thank you for taking the time to explain. Peace.
If 2-Pac was an scholar Martin Luther King, Jr. would have to be cl*****ified as a God! SMDH LMFWAO
SMH = SHAKING MY HEAD
SMDH = SHAKING MY DANM HEAD
@ Da Truff Hurtz!!
You are wonderful. Keep keeping on. Yes We Can.
SMGDH = SHAKING MY GOD DAMN HEAD (I *****ume)
To those of you whom are adamently agreeing or suggesting that the government had something to do with Tupac’s death.
Did they government make him kick Orlando Anderson’s ***** just hours before he was shot and killed? Did the government pull a Manchuruan Candidate on him and force him to jump a gang member in full view of a security camera, knowing full well the Crips would retaliate?
For every action there is always a reaction. Whether positive or negative.
Tupac did dirt, so he got hurt.
Oh, I rhymed! Am I a poet or future black leader now too?
@Serafina
To answer your question, you are both! heh heh
basically though…. if you knew anything about how it works when you are watched and surveilled you would know that it doesn’t happen overnight.
Don’t forget Pac is the son of a PANTHER… you don’t seem to know what has happened to the children of this movement…EVENTUALLY YOU WILL LEARN THE TRUTH AS IT WILL BE EXPOSED.
Musicians are STALKED AND HARR*****ED AND PSYCHOLOGICALLY PROFILED…. UNDER THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT, I URGE YOU TO ASK FOR PAC’S FILE. MATTER OF FACT…. ASK FOR SOMEONE’S FILE THATS… NOT BLACK AND WAS A MURDERED MUSICIAN OR A MUSICIAN THAT”DIED” OF A “SUICIDE” OR “DRUG OVERDOSE” PLEASE CHECK YOUR FACTS…. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND NOT POST MISINFORMATION… get the facts…. Alicia fact checked…… so should you…. musicians are harr*****ed and profiled left and right… and its sad but you think its all about flossing and money and all that… you don’t think that if you had someone’s psychological profile that you could know what they would do if in a situation? why do you think that in the year 2008 that people are living in “the projects” ?? if you notice that in the “projects” there is what close by: A CHURCH AND A LIQUOR STORE…. they have been conducting tests since we got “abolished”. FACT CHECK.
Serafiana you ARE a poet!
That was awesome!! Can you imagine people thinking the government would be at all interested in these two rappers?? Remember what Chris Rock said (and I paraphrase – they weren’t **********inated, those two *****s got shot!”
I couldn’t resist posting on this thread! Anywhoo, for those of you defending the actions of Tupac Shakur you should be ashamed of yourself. He was an icon in the inner-cities and slums of America, but when being honest what else did he really contribute to mankind? I will digress since it is a Sunday and avoid the potential “cyber-beefs.” Until the morning, JSABP has left the building!
People are not ready to hear stuff like that…. especially when we are in the age of technology where everything is monitored and on “video”.. also what you should maybe consider… is how bad and filthy the music business is right now… i can’t listen to the radio… i don’t like the music that is on the radio…. the movement of hip hop is that it is something else… hiphop was something else……. and the murders of both Pac and Big were MURDERED AT THE HAND OF SOMEONE WHO HAS NOT BEEN CHARGED OR CAUGHT YET. and I would like to know what a “*****ard” is and from what part of the country that word is used because I don’t think they say that in URBAN CITIES….
ALICIA IS A VERY SMART WOMAN. I’M SURE HER WORDS WERE TAKEN OUT OF CONTEXT, LIKE EVERYONE ELSE WHO DOES MAGAZINE INTERVIEWS. SHE’LL BE ON BET TO EXPLAIN HERSELF SOON. ANYWAYS I’LL CONTINUE TO SUPPORT HER AND BE HER #1 FAN!!!!
You know, some of you may be on to something: I just did an Internet search and learned that Bossip is owned by David Hauslaib, the same dude who founded Jossip.com. Hmmm; I wonder if Bossip’s folks ARE sitting back laughing at all the intra-racial mischief they stir with ‘Swirl’ posts, etc. Kinda makes you wonder if Bossip/Jossip employees aren’t also behind some of the more ignorant/strident comments posted at this site.
I guess I’m out. I don’t care who owns this site, but to constantly bill itself as ‘Black-owned’ when in fact it’s owned by a white dude – that just sounds like shady bull***** to me.
i would suggest you research what she said and see what you come up with…. now the character **********ination will begin against her because she said something that is against the rules as an artist. she spoke out….. and she did say something unpopular that the “average” person cannot understand. None of us are in the music business like she is…. she is definitely onto something that has merit and truth…. and for what its worth you should respect what she said and research it instead of *****uming she is a lesbo and stupid… she is extremely intelligent and wise and she is a GREAT LEADER. Her music kills ALL OF BEYONCE’S RECORDS…. ALL OF THEM….. so say what you want… you people (the media) always like to twist something that someone says that is truth into conspiracy theory buffoonery. This is simply a tactic… and FOX NEWS is bought and paid for…. MSNBC SPEAKS THE TRUTH EVERYNIGHT… WATCH THAT.
WOW!!! EZRawlins – I just did the same thing! It IS a white guy who owns this site.
I swear to God himself. Last time I click on this bull***** site………even if that means never finding out who JSABP’s cyberstalker is. I’m out too.
a black man owns this site… ya’ll didn’t research too much.
SMDH at some of these random comments. To any of the regulars, good evening to you! A Jewish man owns this site, so what, if you dont want to comment move along!!!!!!!!!
Whether a jew man or black man owns this here site, it dont matter to me. I come here for the people who post here on a regular basis. They are way more smarter than those *****s on tmz or mto. + Bossip is just way more entertaining.
I wonder why when people talk about the 2Pac-Biggie feud, they talk as if both parties were involved. From what I know it was 2Pac who had the problem who had the problem Biggie. Biggie never retaliated to any of 2Pac’s disses. Biggie (and Puffy as well) never stooped down to 2Pac and Suge Knight’s level.
Tupac and Biggie the next great leaders? Give me f*ckin’ break. Live by the gun, die by the gun. Sorry.
When you read an autobiography from anyone, you have to realize that the only way for the author to sell books is to make unsubstantiated claims like this.
In the ’60’s and ’70’s, there were FBI files on civil rights leaders. That was wrong. Something tells me that the government wasn’t that worried about Tupac or Biggie.
Alicia, you need to read more credible sources. Maybe you think you are catering to a certain crowd. Whatever the reason, you need to be smarter about what you *****ert. You risk alienating fans.
And the government being involved? Like they would care about those two enough to spend time, resources or attention to them! I am skeptical of the government as much as the next person, but Jesus Christ, that’s ridiculous!
lovely and amazing,
I felt you said things very well in your comment. Some people are just bogus with these comments. It is one thing to disagree cause it’s your opinion, but it’s another to call her all of these random names and discredit her as a person. She is a very intelligent person who has studied beyond singing. I’m scared to ask some of you how far did you along in your studies? Anyways I think people are not reading her statement as well as reading the whole article which you should. None of the founding fathers of hip hop were gangsta rappers so don’t even try that one. Also they have interviewed Dougie Fresh among others who have said how hip hop was a form of art. When rappers had battles they talked about their infamous skills of art not “Imme get my crew and we gonna bring out the guns and destroy ya family” WTF is that. I’m not saying Biggie and Tupac were fabulous leaders, but who knows what they could’ve been they both died very young. PRove to me what positive things has gangsta rap done for the black community cause I’m waiting to hear it. Tell me that everyday you didn’t see the media blowing the feud out of proportion and how nowadays 50soldiers can die in the war but a suspected celebrity wedding will go on CNN and other mainstream media before that news. It helps take the attention off things. Montel said it on FOX and now all of a sudden his show is being canned.
SOME OF THESE COMMENTS ARE RIDICULOUS. FIRST OFF FOR THE PEOPLE TALKING ABOUT DO YOUR RESEARCH AND AMERICA NEEDS MORE LEADERS WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR AN INVITATION TO LEAD? TAKE A STEP AND BEGIN A PROCESS BUT COMING TO BOSSIP TO MAKE OPINIONS ABOUT WHAT YOU *****UME TO BE FACTS IS IGNORANT. ALICIA IS SPEAKING FROM OPINION FROM GATHERED FACTS. THAT DOES NOT MAKE HER WRONG BUT IT DOES NOT PROVE HER RIGHT. AT THE END OF THE DAY ITS ONLY AN OPINION. AND THE LAST I CHECKED WE ARE ALL ENTITLED TO THOSE.
I agree with Alicia to a certain degree. When Tupac wrote that song Brenda’s Gotta Baby, it started out as just a freestyle while he was filming the movie Juice, but the song brought attention to an issue that is still disturbing our precious young girls today, but because it’s been a while since that song came out, now a days it’s sad that people have just accepted the fact that young 14 or 13 year old girls are having babies.
I WILL BE REVEALING MY NEW PICTURE ON 4/14/08 SO ALL OF MY DEVOTED FANS PLEASE CONTINUE TO SUPPORT ME.
XOXO
JSABP
Hahaha Can’t wait JSABP
gurl you too much… that is of course if this is even you…but I must admit your impostor cracks me up too.
Alicia, keep singing and quit talking! DUH!
@ Trusted Source
What the world needs is more por-no star looking *****es like you. When is your sex dvd coming out?
@ Luthor Cambell
YOU SPELL LIKE YOUR BROKE. LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WTF IS A POR-NO? 90 TYPO’S AND ONLY 12 WORDS. GOD DAMN.
@ Trusted source
Bossip won’t let spell the actual word. If you spell it correctly, your post will get blocked. So a ***** gots’ to improvise. Damn you sexy ma.
Btw, it you’re broke, your broke. Here endeth the lesson. Now can i go down on you?
rotflmao @ the alicia dykes stans typing under different names. Tell us why you mad? Fake jealous *****es if this was Beyonce who said this she would be ripped to shreds. But because Alicia Dykes is nowhere near as popular and successful as Beyonce she gets a slide.SMH I guess Alicia can’t make CNN news like Beyonce can and btw Beyonce *****s on Alicia on everything so get the hell outta here with that. *****ody is checking for Alicia Dykes no-singing straining ***** and definitely *****ody is checking for her after this stupid ***** comment. She betta be glad she not that popular like Mariah, Beyonce, Britney, etc are, or she would have been treated worse than this. This dyke ***** should get treated like the rest and this statement proves what a dumb***** she is. Alicia do us all a favor and sit your overrated flat ***** down.
If people are stupid enough to believe that the U.S. ( United Satans ) Government is not capable of setting up **********inations of blacks they are fearful that will enlighten other blacks, the ones who believe that are Stuck On Stupid and denial.
Alicia Keys, while beautiful and talented, is dumber than a bag of pet rocks. She wears a gold AK-47 because it symbolizes strength? Chick, please just stick to playing your piano and singing songs. The AK-47 is an international symbol of death and destruction. And the government did not propogate the east coast/west coast war. Dumb***** *****s made that ***** happen.
Alicia Dykes Stans Sit Down!,
You lack much cl***** if there’s a need to call her so many names. Maybe you simply have a problem with yourself instead of her. For one Beyonce wouldn’t make any statements with any type of substance as she has proved in her interviews. You are obviously one of her stans to feel the need to run in an A. Keys blog and still mention Beyonce. *****ody cares how bout you just talk about the issue at hand. You sound like a bunch of nonscense.
Joyce,
When she said fueled I don’t think she meant they were the ones that set it up. This is what the media is trying to make her statement sound like and people are actually believing it instead of reading the whole article. “Fueled” meaning they publicized it and made it much bigger than it was to put America at fear of these “gangsta black people.”
a lot of people on this post hate Alicie. i can’t understand. but i just saw she was dating with a black rich man on ‘mill ionairechats.co m’ . a few days sgo.
OHHH SO THAT’S WHAT THE GOVERNMENT HAD GOING ON BETWEEN DROPPING ATOMIC BOMBS, THE COLD WAR, IRAQ – TUPAC AND BIGGIE…AH THANKS ALICIA KEYS.
She has my whole-hearted support.She is so pretty .Large sexy.I love her very much.I saw her many times in millonaire dating site”W e a l t h y L o v i n g . c o m”.I am wondering whether she searching her new love in this site?If I can catch a chance have a chatting with her?
“wears a gold AK-47 pendant around her neck ‘to symbolize strength, power and killing ’em dead” damn my type of chick. To be truthful I think Alicia would be on some Angela Davis type ish if this was the 1960’s. They don’t make sistas like this no mo’. Minute a black woman makes it in Hollywood she is bending backward, forward, both legs behind her head on the casting couch for the white man/ white lesbian record executive. That’s why Lauren Hill quit and left the music scene, she knew she was an African queen and wasn’t about to spread them thighs for no white devil. But they(white media) have the public especially black females thinking she is crazy, because she refuses to partake in selling her soul like many blacks are willing to do. Don’t be surprised when Alicia hits that $100 million mark and just quits the whole music entertainment biz and marries some New Black Panther/NOI brotha.
No they don’t make them like her anymore.
Love this girl. She doesn’t give a ***** if her opinion it controvertial knowledge is power and her views hold stablility and she is keeping it real.
She doesn’t say things to sell records. She is she!
Gwan girl show em how it’s done. Show all the sell outs, up.
@joyce
“She wears a gold AK-47 because it symbolizes strength? Chick, please just stick to playing your piano and singing songs. The AK-47 is an international symbol of death and destruction.” It is also a symbol for FREEDOM FIGHTERS breaking from the grips of colonialism by Europe and America. The AK-47 is one of the most durable weapons if not the best military rifle in world. Many of them chose the AK47 because it was cheap, would not jam up on you, can sit in mud or clay for weeks take 1/2 hour to clean and it will still work. It is like any weapon can be used for good or bad. But it has help free many African, Asian, Latin countries from the grips of U.S, or European backed tyranny.
@the whiteman go to a cracker blog i’m sick and tired of yall pointy nose, bologna smelling when wet, pancake *****es with a lil meat on the bottom, freckled face, wishing to be black *****s.why blame the white man ***** him he is weak and have no more power.black and brown pride will always win.white hoes love us and white men envy us.i was lockedup upstate from 89-92 wyoming correctional facility in there we would ***** fresh fish white boys and make em dress like our *****es back home.i must admit sometimes i forget philip aka precious that whiteboy gave better head than superhead,he would swallow burp it up and let it run out the crack of his mouth, whiteboys give the best *****s.
I don’t blame white people for the ***** that goes down with black people or whatever, but i do understand where she’s coming from, i also wouldn’t say that tupac and biggie were “leaders” but they were talented and talked about ***** that they went through. But a lot of record execs or what have you, white/black love to take ***** and run with it. Also, the government does have a lot to do with a whole lots of bull***** that goes on in this country.
But you know, that’s her opinion and she’s entitled to that, she doesn’t need publicity…she’s already selling records and more, and she’s TALENTED! WHAT?! she still has my support…love her
I commend the woman that incites controversy over people. For someone so dumb, you all sure are going on and on..I guess with all the millions she made, she can get some water to clear her throat and speak her mind LMAO!
I like her comments! I really do and honestly I didn’t expect that from Alicia! So go on girl and tell them. I can agree, truthfully. I do think that bi-coastal feud was created by the media. I could see it whole-heartedly.
When people say gangsta rap was created by ‘the man’ blah blah blah. It makes black people look even more stupid than we already do. You can tell some women “hey, you can sit on your ***** all day and get a check, just keep having kids by men that walk away from them” and some women go for it. Strong women, do not, they choose to work and have kids by a man they are interested in committing to and spending a life with. You can tell a man “hey, sell drugs and kill your brothers and you can have a cadilac with rims” and the stupid ones will go for it but the strong ones find another way out.
it’s about time that an artist had more to say than what designer handbag they are carrying or who they are dating…this woman is entitled to her opinion….and some aspects of what she was saying is true…the government has always kept tabs on those entertainers who they thought could or would incite the people…im sure they have a file on just about every artist from the 60’s…
Can we please stop blaming everybody else for our problems??????
i agree… and i dont know why people hate alicia so much,…. and whether the gay rumors are tru or not im sure *****ody on this site has even half of what she makes>>>>>>>>>>
.. why do people compare evry body to beyonce…. *****ody is even talkin about beyonce half the time
at first i had to take second look because it aint look lik her at first………but i lik that statment and i agree wit it…
“”"”We just have one question for you Alicia, which one of the two fellows are you referring to as a “great black leader”?”"”
That’s a dumb***** question, Bossip, rendering your entire post sarcastic.
Leila, “OHHH SO THAT’S WHAT THE GOVERNMENT HAD GOING ON BETWEEN DROPPING ATOMIC BOMBS, THE COLD WAR, IRAQ – TUPAC AND BIGGIE…AH THANKS ALICIA KEYS.”
If law enforcement counts as ‘government’, then yes government had something to do with tupac and biggie’s deaths. I’m not getting the roll eyes and the shying away. I thought the LAPD’S/rampart officers’ roll in the deaths of tupac and biggie were common knowledge. Sure, those folks involved were doing it over some gang-and-moonlighting-as-a-mercenary bull*****, but still.
If law enforcement is not part of government, then all bets are off.
As for white folks creating gangster rap, they didn’t. Who decided that that was going to sell more than conscious rap, though? Remember Jerry Heller………….. though, to be fair, Easy (god rest his soul) is ultimately responsible for cheating his own out of profits; Heller could not have been that strong over Easy. I believe he just made it easier for Easy to make the wrong choices for the sake of profit. It’s sad, that had been going on for longer than Easy had been in the business with black folk sabotaging and taking advantage of other black folk. See also: the dude who screwed over Salt n Pepa, who screwed over Spinderella; and Pebbles versus TLC, though that may have been just gross incompetence over willful malevolence; and Suge Knight versus everybody. I know there’s a lot more. Weren’t Roxanne Shante and M.C. Lyte both screwed at one point?
But no, white folk didn’t create gangster rap. Studio gangster rap was a collabo effort by everybody wanting in on the fantasy.
wow!!
Sooooo if there was no Gangsta Rap we wouldnt have over 10,000 Crip Sets? GTFOH,this chick is pretty I’ll give her that but rap didnt start ***** ,it was already here. The only thing was Gangsta Rap gave people the chance to take a look at what was going on if you didnt live out WEST.Pac was on some real ***** in my opinion ,and if he was still here Hip-Hop would not be the way it is now and thats Real Type.
Tupac and Biggie ahad voices but no ownership.
Both men were economically and contractually owned.
In order for their voices and the voices to reach the m*****es they had to be greenlighted by those who hold the purse strings.
The ultimate perception and message of hip hop is controlled by the man on the very top who holds the cash.
Back then Dre and Diddy were not the ultimate owners of their labels and still had to cooperate with what was authorized to be realeased by the man on top.
The east coast west coast wat war was entertaining and big business for the man and its instigation and manipulation did not halt until two young black men under twenty-five were murdered as a result.
Then their deaths became entertainment and big busniness.
Not every leader is a scholar.
Tupac and Biggie offered something, they mattered, and they moved people and I will not sit on some intellectual high horse and negate or judge that.
That’s the beauty of Obama. Obama is just a few choices and opportunities away from being a Tupac or a Biggie.
Obama’s an orator with gift of rap but his went Harvard and theirs went street/rap game. All working and middle cl***** blacks in America are a hop skip jump and choice from the other side.
Oh, and now we too good and uppity to recognize the potential in Tupac and Biggie?
In 2008 we finally have Obama a viable black presidential candidate who is winning on the platform of HOPE as a solution to hopelessness. Mrs. Obama speaks eloquently on the feeling of hopelessness in America.
And this WINNING presidential platform of addressing hopelessness was preceded more than ten years ago by a 22 year old black man from Bed-Stuy Brooklyn who rapped about being Ready to Die.
So Biggie didn’t say it in a Harvard way, it’s the same message of a need for HOPE and CHANGE.
And didn’t Tupac write the most honorable tribute a young man could write to his mother? That’s the very same mother respect and comp*****ion that was void and desperately needed in that young brother who killed his mother and Juvenile’s daughter a few month’s back.
These young brothers were used. They had the opportunity to make money but not the opportunity to self actualize.
At one point Tupac was literally screaming (out for help) on tracks. Biggie was writing living suicide notes.
Who knows they could have at 30 years old said eff hip hop and became ministers, or authors, or scholars.
I will not diminish their memory, contributions, and UNSUNG potential.
God Bless us all.
We need hope and change because so many of our youth are still ready to die and still need songs that sing respect and honor for their mothers.
Obama 2008!
Yes We Can!
I guess yall don’t know that the gov’t tried to paint MLK as a communist either. Anyone with a voice that would move the m*****es is a threat. Young people, read between the lines. The elders know what they’re talking about. Keep on livin, you’ll learn.
@ Lovely…
“That’s the beauty of Obama. Obama is just a few choices and opportunities away from being a Tupac or a Biggie.

Obama is not a socio-path! He didn’t rap about kicking in doors and putting guns to people’s mother’s heads. He didn’t degrade women or perpetuate the myth of the economically incapable black woman. I would remind you that Barack didn’t grow up rich so these “oppurtunities” of which you speak were actually given to Tupac at the Baltimore school of the Arts, I would also remind you that Biggie’s mother was a teacher. These two men were not Malik and Jamal from the projects. You damn right they had choices and they made the wrong ones. For you to put them in the same breath as Obama is like somebody comparing JFK to Charles Manson.
I can barely even get up at 7:00 A.M. yet alone oppress and entire cl***** of people. This is just another case of a celebrity taking themselves way too serious at the end of the day you are an entertainer and not a politician and you pay your bills because your fans buy your product that’s it
I agree what most of Alica is sayin. Tupac was a influencial leader for black folks, anda lot of people looked up to him. Tupac knew a lot, and it is my belief the government did hav something to do with his murder, whether directly or indirectly. Has anyone heard of “ILLUMINATI”. LOOK IT UP PEOPLE. That who is really running *****, and Tupac knew that. It was only a matter of time when he would start speaking on it. Rappers have a lot of influence. They MUST take responsibilty for what they say. Just imagine if rappers spoke on positive things all the time, the positive INFLUENCE they would have on people. There is not enough positive music out here, and there are too many mininformed people
guess yall don’t know that the gov’t tried to paint MLK as a communist either. Anyone with a voice that would move the m*****es is a threat. Young people, read between the lines. The elders know what they’re talking about. Keep on livin, you’ll learn.

@ earth sign!
you re totally right but it is really scaring. According to this theory Hillary clinton is also an illuminati!
and yes,
i think that hip hop at the time was our speakers. Maybe they were not as eloquent as Malcom X Or MLK but they sure was talking about their reality and try to make people see things as they really are. We all know that all those rappers was part of a huge investigation because they would have the power to move m*****. The question is, would they use this power??? I don’t think so!
@ Earth Sign
I guess you don’t know that Martin Luther King and Bayard Rustin were communist… and that communism made a lot of since for southern blacks suffering from Jim Crowe… or that the universal villainizing of socialism came during the McCarthy era
Tupac and Biggie were young when they said these, just like Obama did things when he was young but then changed. What we’re saying is when Tupac and Biggie would have gotten older, maybe they would’ve changed too.
Bush, Cheaney, Rumsfield and countless other people. A lot are Harvard/ Yale graduates The general public in blind to this fact. Tupac was studying Machiavelli too. Illuminati and Machiavelli is not a good combination to the powers that be. We cant be scared no more. We gotta get out the the rut we are in as black folk and speak up. Also look up the Bilderberg Conference, that will tell you a lot too. Democrates and Repulicans are just and illusion. the real power is the Illuminati
And don’t forget Rosa Parks. She belonged to the Communist Party also…In fact the whole refusing to relenquish her seat on the bus protest was pre-planned.
@Marquis de Sade
Dont know if you are trying to be funny or sarcastic, I dont think its true. Ill look it up
@TJ
To me the soviets blew communism out the proportion, and So does the US with capitalism. Communism means you have a cl*****less society which means less corruption amoungst people. A person would think to himself, “why would i kill a man for a dollar when I can never have more money than him” That why they labeled MLK as a communist because he dreamed of equality for everyone. Anyone that threatens a capitalistic sociely is called a communist
Well since you think our people were communist, why wasn’t it ever proven. They weren’t Communist, they were their brother’s keeper. I won’t say anymore, you’re just trying to agitate us to keep this thing going, you Bossip undercover.
Thanks @ Earth sign
I have always thinking that the communism model is the most humanist! But Russians just did not use this model as it was supposed to and instead corrupt a lot!! But equality betwen people is not a bad thing to wish!!
Anyways,
i love alicia more for having th eguts to give her opinion, she sure would not talk about fashion all day lol
Alot of influential Blacks from the late 1930′-60’s were involved with the Communist Party and their activities but were not active members. Some included: W.E.B Dubouis, Rosetta Lenoir, Paul Robeson, Adam Clayton Powell, and Martin Luther King, Jr.
**In my opinion a leader must have a direction in mind. Tupac nor Biggie were leaders in this way. They were the voice of a generation. Icons. But not leaders.
Earth Sign are you serious…
I’m so tired of these “black internet scholars” wikipedia communism and come correct.
For your information Bayard Rustin, Phillip Randolph, Richard Wright, and Martin Luther King were all funded and supported by white jewish (often gay but we won’t go there) communist. They were at different times members of the communist party at one point in time. Despite your irrelevant social applicators Communism is a structure of government where in the government parti*****tes in equal distribution of it’s resources because of an increasingly global economy such means have to be achieved in a ruthless manner- that’s where the villainizing of communism comes in.
Also “the prince” was an obstensibly communist texts… Damn stay in school black people.
When they said Communist, they meant a movement in a bad way, saying Blacks were trying to overthrow the gov’t. All we were doing was trying to make the gov’t stand by it’s word (The Constitution), which says Equality for all.
Deitre
We can play semantics with the division between communist sypathizer and communist party member just as we can play semantics with the notion of democratic candidate supporter and democrat but the fact of the matter remains they supported communist efforts.
@TJ
When you say they were at one time communist, please make it plain that MLK wasn’t part of it. Those otheres were part of Communist parties before they were affiliated with MLK. They came and gave King some help and ideas about driving a movement. When the gov’t kept saying King was having a Communist movement, he told the ex Communist helpers that he had to distance himself from them becasue he wanted the movement to be see/known for what it really was; a movement for equality.
@TJ
The only point in my distinction was in regards to the McCarthy era comment. The only reasons they charges were not brought against those who testified was because the McCarthy administration could not prove that they were dues paying members.
@tj
I have researched that Communism is not a always a bad thing. Onther countries have abused Communism the same way the US abuses Capitalism. My sources exceed the definition in Wilkepedia. Take Capitalism as an example. Capitalism breeds greed, no matter how rightcious the individual is greed can become a factor because we must work harder to stay afloat. We rob, we kill just to make a dollar. Why is America considered the most riches most powerful country on the planet when we have the highgest number of homicides, lowest rated education, and leads violent crimes. Its all about a dollar. Dont get me wrong, capitialsm can be a good thing when the fortunate, reinvest in their communities and do not have selfish intensions. Our society is survival of the fittest these days, and it is sad, We are all slaves of our government (illuminati), the powers that be. no one can survive on one job anymore. Work is a way of life. And you call this life, making money?
@ Luthor Cambell
YOU NEED SOMEBODY TO LOVE RIGHT AWAY. THATS SAD.
AKEYS is right, Tupac was a visionary and i believe would have grown to become one of our great black leaders if only time would have allowed him too…Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and dissing one of her top black sisters is just down right shameful! Alicia Keys is very educated graduating top of her cl***** at the tender age of 16 to go on to attend one of the most prestigous colleges Columbia University so yea I’d she’s entitled to her opinion
CB Wrote:
Tupac and Biggie were young when they said these, just like Obama did things when he was young but then changed. What we’re saying is when Tupac and Biggie would have gotten older, maybe they would’ve changed too.

WOW not ur brightest moment AK. This was one of those time when you sit and look pretty. Also what does an AK-47 have to do with reading about the black panthers.
Black people are the only people on the face of the earth that the goverments around the world can continue to oppress and we wont say or do *****. Without a question white corprate America used our music Hip-Hop to destroy black CULTURE. We went from red, black, and green to gang bandanas overnight. Even though the 80’s where some tough times because of the import of CRACK still black people where going to college at large numbers because of movies like SCHOOLS DAZES and also programs like A DIFFERENT WORLD. Hip-HOP in the 80’s & 90’s was political and PAC was at the head of that movement. Public enemy, Jungle Brothers, Poor Rightous teachers, B.D.P., X-Clan, Paris, Ice-Cube, The Native Tounge Family, SAFARI-X. Sista Solja, Scarface ect…really let black people know what was happening all over the United States Ghettos. I felt a strong bond with my people just threw Rap. America hates Black people and until we realize that where going to continue to be the laughing stock of the world. AK was right its just moderen day cointell pro they just using the music to kill us now. Lil Wayne, Webbie, and the rest of those COONS are our enimies. You will never see the Insane Clown Posse on White T.V. cause they dont want their kids exposed to that. The Black race is in big trouble we need more HBCU and less prisons and the only way we can make that change is by destroying this COON culture thats been forced down our throats. Burn Hollywood burn.
@ tj
Back in the day Hip Hop was Harvard to many black youth. It was a way out and up.
Do we need to examine the entire history of black poetry and literature to dig up every politically incorrect phrase written? dig up every violent reference? Are you going to also dismiss Miles Davis, a musical genius whi actualy was a woman beater in real life?
Kick in the door wave in the four four all you heard was papa don’t hit me no more. I believe Biggie write that verse to purge his wife cheating on him and humliating him. The point is HE DIDN”T KICK IN THE DOOR AND DIDN’T PISTOL WHIP ANYBODY. He sat in a recording studio and did what a pot does, *****ert creative license.
BTW- A teachers salary for a single mother in NYC is poor. And public performing arts schools are packed with poor brilliant kids whose parents can’t afford fine arts opportunities.
Biggie and Tupac were not kids of privilege. And although not raised rich, Obama was indeed way more privileged by his multi-racial influence and exposure and travel and education.
Obama was not a child of an imprisoned Arican American political prisoner. He was not an overweight black skinned teen who found his voice freestyling on Brooklyn corners.
All I’m saying is what Obama is saying: All our voices and experiences count and contribute to the dream of a new day.
And I also believe that Chuck D, who is older than Obama, was also an oratory precursor for the m*****es to embrace to Obama voice.
Bridge not Divide.
Build not Break.
OBAMA 2008!
YES WE ALL CAN!
excuse my typos please.
He sat in a recording studio and did what a **poet** does, *****ert creative license.
I just must say that this is the most intelligent conversation about rap music that I have witnessed among our generation. Thanks black folks for sending me home happy this monday morning.
Alicias an Idiot
Alicia you ain’t been 27 years old in like 5 years. Come on now girl!
@ Deitre
Right, we need to speak on this more often the help educate each other.
Shut up and sing or eat a *****. You stupid carpet muncher.
Bravo to what?? Give black people credit for their own inventions! Does gangsta rap sound like something a white bureaucrat came up with?
This country would only prosper more if poor black people got educated and started contributing to the economy and society. Why would the givernment target blacks like that? Poor blacks cost the country MONEY.
@ lovely and Amazing
I see what you are trying to say and I agree with most of it… still the bridge from Obama to Tupac is not one I’m willing to help build. At some point a moral comp***** has to come into play. There is threshold for socio-pathic behavior that Biggie and Tupac claim to have crossed and judging from some of the more academically sound studies of their lives actually did cross on several occasions. No amount of harsh cir*****stance can make someone devalue the life of another. They were poor is not an excuse for me. I don’t doubt they spoke for a lot of people but the question at hand is whether or not that makes them surrogates or leaders. They were surrogates, and more to the point perpetuators of the very corrupt system and vicious cycle that held them captive.
As for everyone saying “what if they’d live to see 50″ and did what exactly? These men were admittedly high on marijuana all the time and busy concerning themselves with promiscuous women and surrounding themselves with gangsters. I can tell you where Obama was at 23 he was in Chicago organizing churchs and before that Columbia surrounding himself with the foremost intellectuals of the land. This comparison is so utterly baseless it’s insulting.
He’s black and they’re black it ends there.
I really applaud Alicia for not being scared to state her opinion. No doubt the main stream is going to look at her like they looked at Obama’s pastor. What pop star do you know that will come out and openly support the Black Panthers? No doubt Clive Davis has called her and said “Alicia chill!” But really, she’s speaking the truth and unfortunately most black people don’t get it when they’re being bamboozled. We usually fall for it.
@Sara
Why would the givernment target blacks like that?
Why would the government target blacks. Why harsher sentences for for crack cocaine than powder in 80’s. Now they want to lower the conviction times of poeple that were convicted of the crack cocaine crimes because of overcrowded jails nowdays. Why the *****ination of MLK, JFK, and malcolm X? Why were the CRIPS of L.A once considered and accepted by the government at first for the uplift of poor blacks? Why during the Vietnam war the CIA knowingly allowed pounds of cocaine and heroine to help fund the war. The answer of these questions should tell you that the government does now want to see the prosperity of blacks. How can a race recover from slavery when you throw numerous obstacles in their way? Not making an excuse, but blacks should be contribiting more to society and wake up, but dont EVER say the government does not have anything to do with our hardships
@ tj
I hear you and also agree with your points. I think we share a commonground and can also agree to disagree on some points.
While hip hop was an outlet it also took advantage and mislead many of our visionary and ambitious youth. Instead of encouraging education, it encouraged ignorance for sales and profit.
Obama always credits the guiding forces in his life. His guiding forces were stronger and wiser than those accessible and available to Biggie and Tupac.
You are 100% right that there is no excuse nor victim pathology that justfies sociopathic behavior. None.
And there is also no excuse to nor victim pathology that justifies discrediting the positive they did contribute and the unsung never to be known possibilities of their potential.
When will Hip Hop take responsibility for these rappers they get rich off and guide them. I bet if the renewal of their record deal required x amount of college credits they’d sit their but in a cl*****room.
I’m with you, Obama was a uniquiely self-determined and community minded young man at 23. He also had already lived around the world and been exposed to much.
There is our bridge. Our youth need alternatives to being pimped and sold by an industry that does not care to be a guiding force in the lives.
I still think Biggie and Tupac were buried too deep to dig themselves out and it is sad because they both had the intelligence and vision and talent to channel their energies differently and positively if they could.
I just don’t agree that they were perpetuators. They were popular but still powerless. I would go as far to say they were both enslaved and there is much research to prove this.
No one should be shot to death at 23, and both their future’s are forever speculative. I prefer to speculate on the positive tip because that is the same unconditional hope I hold for our youth today.
I agree with the post above and I am honored to engage in this intelligent conversation on hip hop with you, even if we may not agree on all points.
I learned from you today. I wish you peace.
Obama 2008!
Yes We Can!
Go ahead AK! Tell it!! BIGGIE was no leader. He was following Puffy for the loot. If BIGGIE was still alive, he probably would be suing Puffy for the rest of his money. Tupac A.K.A. tha Don Killuminati (kill illuminati) was trying to wake ya’ll up. As long as they (Rappers and R&B singers) are advocating negativity, they will always have an audience and the backing to produce their music. Open up a book people. Learn that they are trying and succeeding to keep us in the dark. G.O.O.D.I.E. M.O.B. tried to warn ya’ll about the illuminati but ya’ll thought it was a song to just dance to (Cell therapy). You know there is more to rap than being a gangsta but why don’t you hear it? They don’t want you to learn anything. Look at the schools were mostly black people attend. They know rap is influencial so they let ya’ll hear what they want ya’ll to hear. All ya’ll who say AK is a fool then you keep on thinking that way while they let you keep listening to lame ***** Gangsta Rap. And for those who don’t think the gov’t had something to do with their deaths then how do you explain gov’t surveillance on both of these guys until the day that they were mysteriously gunned down around a gang of witnesses. In no way am I calling them (2pac and Big)Malcolm and Martin but if my mind serves me corrrectly, didn’t the same thing happend to Malcolm and Martin as far as the surveillance?
Just to throw around a few thoughts on the subject
The term “gangsta rap” was coined by the media to refer to rappers. The first “gangsta rappers” was N.W.A
N.W.A was under the label Ruthless records, owned by Eric “Eazy-E” Wright. Many believed that Eazy-E funded his record label through distribution of “crack” cocaine a form of cocaine that was accessible to the black community because it was cheap and easy to produce. The drug was an attempt to destroy the black community. Popular belief is that Eazy was confronted by a member of the CIA or FBI,( I forgot which) and offered an opportunity of a lifetime, to turn his small day to day operations of drug peddling to a drug empire. Rumor has it he took the offer and invested his money into a record company.
Flash forward some 10+ years and “crack” is still in the streets. Rappers brag about selling cocaine and crack as if it isn’t illegal. Rap used to be a form of positive expression. It was used to discuss the issues we deal with and how to overcome them. Now, we have lost our voice. The record label execs know how to profit off the black man and woman just as thier ancestors did 400+ years ago.
History repeats itself; we are stuck in an endless cycle until we realize what the hell is going on. So while we “crank dat” and “lollipop” on tv, the rich continue to get richer.
So Alicia I commend you for stepping out and using your voice for more than singing.
@ eastside216
@ Dapro
Thank you for your knowledge. Peace.
I don’t completely agree with Alicia, gangsta rap did exist;however, anytime the government and media can capitolize on something they are going to do it. Drugs were planted in black communities so blacks would kill each other (genocide) if you will. Tupac, biggie,NWA…ect the government didn’t write those lyrics the artist did. They rapped about the harsh reality they grew up in and all across America people became fascinated.Young suburban, rural, white and black America wanted to listen and they bought it. As rebellious as the young artist were they didn’t realize they to were merely puppets on a string. Bafoonery was and still is taking place. The East and West Coast beef was stupid, the media took it and ran with it,but they didn’t create it. The media provided the platform the airtime for such nonsense to go down. Tupac and Biggie were very bright and intelligent, they started movement but leaders they were not. These artist didn’t know how to handle what they had once they got it. Tupac for example a true Lyricist in every form, but he would often contradict himself and what he stood for. There deaths were tragic, but they saw it coming. As blacks we have to become more wise about how we handle ourselves, what we feed into ourselves, but most important we need black mothers and especially more fathers to take there positions and raise our children in the way they should go. Big ups to Alicia for keeping it funky and speaking her beautiful mind. Peace!!!!!
Oh Alicia. Someone tell this girl to stick you what she knows: MUSIC!!!
Does she know how incredibly ignorant she sounds?! Tupac and Biggie, great Black leaders?! Give me a freakin break. They were both SHOT, NOT **********INATED, over some stupid *****.
And gangsta rap was an invention by the government? Please, they’re not that smart.
BIG UPS! to Do Little, Dapro, lovely and amazing, earth sign,S. Denise and the rest of ya’ll who REALLY know whats going on. To ya’ll who say that black people just make up excuses about their state of being…..STFU and keep being ignorant and uninformed! ” We ain’t meant to survive cuz it’s a setup but even if you fed up……You got to keep ya head up.” Wake up people. Pac was trying to inform ya’ll way back then!
For those who criticize Pac and Biggie for their flaws, even the greatest minds of men throughout history still had their weaknesses i.e women, money, etc…
Pac and Big were large in the fact that they could reach such a large following. They are cultural icons; Pac understood and attempted to reach us while trying to sell records in the process. Look beyond the surface and see who’s in control. It’s the same in the movie industry.
@lizzle
Gangta rap is not an invention of the govermnent? The term gangsta rap was boasted by the media, the biggest propaganda machine ever created. The government had to have something to do with Pac’s murder. Pac knew about the Illuminati and Machiavelli. These two dont go together. Pac died when he was 25, you/we dont know what type of person he could have become if he had lived longer. Maybe he didnt choose the correct words when he rapped sometimes but he knew. Rap music is the most powerful form of music in the world, and it reaches the m*****ess of all colors. So for a message to come out regarding the REAL POWERS THAT BE would the be detremental to that society (Illuminati. And they couldnt have that, so the struck at the perfect time (East Coast/West Coast fueled by the media machine.) to shut him up. Look up Bildenberg Group or Conference, Illuminati, Skull and Bones society, Haig-Kissinger Depopulationn Policy. They dont teach you these things in school. Educate and think for yourself
@ Lovely and Amazing
Your posts were very evocative and thought provoking as well. You definitely brought me around to your side with the notion of speculating on hope instead of the negative. And I do agree that Pac and Biggie didn’t necessarily bare responsibility for initiating the cir*****stances that kept them from fulfilling a very unique promise. Great posts. and thank you for enlightening me.
oh yeah and…
YES WE CAN!
ok so if you guys think that biggie and pac couldn’t live up to being great leaders what do you think about an artist like jay-z???
I’m still trying to figure out why we as black people need “leaders” to begin with. No other minority group needs a leader, are we really that (short-bus) special?
@ tj
NOOoooooooo! Don’t go near the light! Don’t be swayed by the Pollyana-ish musings of L & A. Come back to Darkside of Cynicism and cold hard fact and logic! You were almost there! You were to be the promised one. You were to bring Order back to Bossip with your rapier-like intelligence. Don’t let all your potential be undone by L & A’s unrealistic Wishcraft. Come back to the DARKSIDE!
@Topaz
All “minorities” and “majority” has leaders. Whether they are religious or political leaders, they have always been men and women who have stepped out and stood for a cause and others have followed. It’s not just blacks, however, black leaders are judged by a different set of cir*****stances.
We tend to look for and wait for someone else to step up to bat for us instead of doing it ourselves. This is a condition formed through slavery. It was by design that we have the current mentality that we do. We must stand up and be heard!
@ tj
I think we brought eachother to a middle ground and a harmonious new perspective. I am grateful.
Peace to you too.
Yes We Can!
WHHHOHAAAA
where the ***** did she get that forehead from ????
it wasnt there before!!!
See this is the bull***** im talkin bout ,,,rihana must be stopped she and her contagious ***** fore head fever!! she got kelly too.
its her own opinion so i mean people should really stop hating. calling her a dyke really isnt cool. And saying her forehand is big is irrelevant so you’re basically an idiot.
At least she is educated and isnt a robot like you know who. She has sources to back up her opinion so thats refreshing to see instead of someone just talking a bunch of bull*****
You’re all fools if you think the government gives less than two *****s about two rappers who was shot by their fellow *****s. Grow the ***** up!
@ TRUSTED SOURCE
The only sadness i’ll experience is never being able to taste the sweet nectar from your upper thighs.
What we as Black people called Gansta Rap back then was actually positive. Listen to hip-hop up until 1998 and you will see a dramatic change in the social content. N.W.A. first big hit Dope-Man was a wake-up call of the ill effects of CRACK. Tupac first album was super political nothing gangsta at all. Scarface was another brother in the game who put injustice on blast. Ice-Cubes first album “AMERIKKK” was filled with political gems. If you dont know ***** about HIP-HOP PLEASE SHUT THE ***** UP. The powers that be saw the potential in our music and they knew they had to shut our ***** down. India Arie even said the same ***** on the Oprah SHOW. The music has be hijacked by a bunch of evil devils & a handful of ignorant COON devils. If you dont have BAMBOOZLED BY SPIKE LEE I RECOMEND YOU GO WATCH IT. N.W.A. only had two albums and the first on was childs play compared to the second one. It aint ***** gansta about telling people to exspress yourself and the viedo was on some pro black *****.
@ Anybody who knows about hip-hop
Name 3 rappers before 1996 who GLORIFIED selling drugs like almost every rapper out today. Key word glorified.
I don’t buy it, no way did she say something this stupid. First, she is bi-racial and knows she was living mighty poor with a white mom, not her black father. Obviously, she knows its about poor people not just black people. Second, the woman is a feminist, she’s going to defend male rappers? No *****ing way, not going to happen, I’m not even addressing the “gangsta” part. The first interview I saw her do, she put the brothers on blast, ripped them apart. A woman like her is too smart, and too together, she’s never going to say anything like Kill’em dead. This is a sick joke, something went very wrong during this interview.
I think she’s too good for some folks, and they have decided to discredit her. Tupac and Ugly Fat ***** were leaders? No. They were too dumb *****es who put the BS ahead of their talent, families, people and themselves. Couple of retards.
@ MUSAK I HOPE THAT IDIOT COMMENT WASNT AIMED AT ME SON.
anyone for that fact her forehead is big
and i personaly beleive she is angela davis n it.
idiot go find out what that means.
this is a online site its no way in hell acceptable when people feeln a little silly for an *****hole to come out they mouth to call anyone an idiot …because last time i checked the entry was not an intellegence ranking ….and also last time i checked that =4head wasnt there idiot …it just popped out.
HAHAHA ur “great leaders” were great artists but they also use to sling drugs and treat woman like *****…they use to shoot off guns…haha and these are who u were proud to keep as great leaders…people need to take responsibility for there own actions instead of blaming the government or the media…if she is so smart and sophisticated why would she come up with such a rediculous statement…rap is rap…just music promoting “ho’s” “killing” “gold” “diamonds” “guns” and other ish along those lines…people have the choice of what to sing or rap about…JayZ’s inspiration for example was a mafia man…a killer a drug slinger…and this is what people call amazing…yeah it’s great music put together well beat sounds crisp…but his inspiration was in the end just a murderer and drug dealer…
Is she crazy? Great leaders? Of what? Alicia sometimes a rapper, is just a rapper, nothing more, nothin less. Just like sometimes a singer is just a singer….who should shut the hell up.
Nothing with the U. S. government is ever as it seemss. Look at how history is taught and then do the research yourself. The two NEVER match. So even if the government wasn’t complicit in their murders (which I don’t think they were); there’s definitely more to the story. And the CIA probably has the info on it.
Wow, we get so serious about gangsta rap! Is everyone here registered to vote?
I listened to the Michael Baisden show yesterday and they were talking about her quote. Anyways she didn’t get any bad reviews, in fact they agreed that the government publicized the music through mainstream media so that people would think that all black people were this way. Anyways they played “self destruction” as the show went off. I bopped so hard to it wishing hip hop could go back to those days. Today rappers only talk abo
about senseless things and about how they use to sell and things. *****ody talks about progression as a community or anything deep.
I think she was thinking about Tupac DAHhhh
Alicia Keys lost much respect from me for making such foolish, paranoid comments. To blame someone else for the impact of “Gangsta Rap” (do you think the government could have produce that??) and to more or less claim that Tupac Shakur , who is one of the most overrated entertainers EVER, was covertly **********inated, is just nonsense, pure and simple. Alicia Keys is tripping so bad, she could end up as nutty as Mariah Carey! The blame game has to stop and a long look in the mirror is needed…..and then we can move on from there. Alicia only hurt herself here.
let the Queen speak
she could have said it in a more articulate way.
No wonder keys doesn’t make poltically oriented songs, her poltics is just dumb!
lovely & amazing… i swear i tip my hat to you
I bookmarked your blog, thanks for sharing this very interesting article
you are so sex
hello
