Tavis is an intelligent African-American. He should be respected. He is entitled to his opinion. Isn't this country about freedoms, for example freedom of speech? When we start censoring, our freedom of speech, our right to express our opinion, we will start losing some of our rights. Our ancestors sacrificed so much for us to have rights. Tavis has worked so hard for many years to uplift African-Americans, and to expose injustices that have been dealt us. Yet, we so easily, and with such vengeance have turned against him.It seems that any African-American, it doesn't matter what contributions they have made for the betterment of African-Americans are viciously attacked, and denigrated, if they inquire about Obama's platform. This is the American way to have an opinion, and to be free to support whom you wish to support. As African-Americans, we should be the last people to infringe on anyone's freedom of choice. All of the name calling, profanity, and hatred toward Tavis, and others should stop. Stop tearing down our good leaders. Stop calling people Uncle Toms. What will we have left, after this election? Obama will most likely be the democratic nominee. What we really need to focus on is defeating the republican nominee, John McCain. Let us not make a mess out of this election. We are suffering economically. We need a democratic in the White House. Gas prices are skyrocking. People are losing their homes. Young black men need to be educated, so that they can get jobs. The war in Iraq needs to end. If John McCain is elected, more of our children will die in Iraq. There is a lot to be done.

@Secret .. I came to a forum that I thought was accepting to ALL opinions. My comment came from the backlash Tavis has suffered because he disagrees with Barack or is not a supporter.

There are people that post on this site that are not a Barack fan. The beauty of what America should be/claims to be is welcoming of all. While this isn't something that America has practiced on a regular; the one place it has ALWAYS been a practice is in the black community. Why now should this be different? The qualifications of being an american President should not be you are a woman or that you are black, but that you are the best PERSON qualified for the job. If I am of the opinion that Sen. Obama is not, I shouldn't be villianized because of it. One would assume you would be applauded due to the fact you have made the decision of giving your vote to the PERSON YOU feel is best for you and yours.

Lastly, considering that the popular vote isn't what puts a person in the white house anyway(shall I say Al Gore), why split hairs over race and gender. I truly believe( I could be wrong, which wouldn't be the first time) we in the black community are making it a bigger deal than others. I would rather thank my people for participating in the process than kicking them in the azz for doing what they feel is best.

Look I'm from Memphis and I didn't want Barack coming here. I'm all for Barack but people look at history. You have a black man which happens to be the closest thing to DR. King. I just didn't want history to repeat itself. He could have very well be assassinated. The only reason Hillary Clinton and John Mccain came to Memphis is to draw Barack out but it didn't work. Memphis is a very hard grimey town and knowing how things go on Memphis it could have very well happened to our next president.

Tavis Smiley, just like Larry Elder and Juan whatever his name does not represent black folk across America. They are sell outs and I can't believe they would rather close their eyes to the hypocrisy of this country, instead of backing a man who's exposing this country which is DAMNED by HYPOCRISY for what it is. Hillary Clinton is just like most America..she doesn't want to believe that this country is the way that it is. Maxine Waters, Bob Johnson, Magic Johnson are all sell outs if you ask me. This also has nothing to do with Obama being BLACK, but about him being about CHANGE!

@ Pussnboots

First, I am a Barack supporter and I have done my research unlike most of Barack's supporters.

My complaint is who cares about Travis or how he feels about Obama.

If Obama wants to be the next President he better realize that you have to watch what you do and think before you say it.

Do you think the Republicans will let the Wright mess or "Bitter" comment just go away? If so then you are crazy.

You never give your enemy a hand up in such a close election.

Obama has to be on his A-game with Hillary and if he makes it then with McCain.

We all know if the Wright mess or this new Bitter business would not have come up then Obama would be alot closer to Hillary in Penn state.

Now Obama has to spend more money on tv ads to repair the damage that his mouth caused. Now Travis didn't cause the Wright mess or Bittergate did he?
