Reality Star Set To Appear In Court To Lay Her Finances On The Table

Laura Govan will finally face the music next week in a case where a judge found she defamed ex Gilbert Arenas by claiming he gave her an STD.

A judge has ordered the former “Basketball Wives LA” star to appear in LA County Court April 14 to testify as part of a “judgment debtor examination” and plead her case as to why the judge shouldn’t slap her with additional fines. She’ll also have to produce business receipts so that the court can figure out her wealth in order to pay the $110,000 judgment she owes to Arenas from the case.

Arenas sued Govan in 2015 for defamation for leaking an email she sent him to a blog that accused the former Memphis Grizzlies player of giving her STDs. But Govan apparently refused to give evidence in support of her defense, like questions about her sex life and intimate partners. A judge later sided with Arenas, ruling that Govan’s refusal to give evidence in the case made him believe she intentionally leaked the “STD” email in order to humiliate Arenas.

Govan skipped a court date last month, and the judge threatened to put out a warrant for her arrest that will remain in effect until the hearing next week. The mother of four won’t be able to dodge this hearing: Arenas’ attorney filed paperwork this week proving that Govan was given notice that she has to appear. If she doesn’t, the warrant will be issued.

“She’s had second chances and third chances, and at the end of the day, we want her to make this right,” Arenas’ lawyer Michael Murphy told BOSSIP.

Govan appears to be taking the case lightly, focusing instead on posting a series of provocative photos of herself on Instagram and promoting personal appearances.

Govan’s spokesman declined to comment on the case.
