No longer are emcees boasting of poetic flows; rappers are now swinging chains laced with diamonds, glamorizing drug money, murder and harems of “hoes” for the star and each member of his entourage. While the phrases and Hip-Hop culture has found its way into commercial marketability, what does it truly cost? How does is affect the children who listen and aspire to be like their favorite rapper? Does it create a false sense of reality among adults? Are rap artists selling their integrity to a label in exchange for a check and stardom? … Continue

hip hop has ALWAYS been about this. this is nothing new.

  • Moreaces – Cowboys are King.

I think you cant put every rapper in the same catogory, but for the most part, I think most are selling their souls, and doing a lot of damage to the youth of america,, the ones that dont have proper guidence at home, Some kids have no parents to look up to so they look up to these sleazy rappers for role models

  • I’m Just Me- HAPPY HUMP DAY!!! GET IT Y’ALL!!!

HIP HOP WAS BETRAYED A LONG TIME AGO…

But since a lot of dudes aren’t living like OGC, HELTAH SKELTAH AND LOST BOYZ, KRS-ONE were, what can they reap about. Alot of these young bucks grew up sheltered in the suburbs (Yung Berg, Drake) so really what can they talk about.

Half these rappers out here have about as much credibility as Vanilla Ice!

Well to me people a rapper she never take you off of your own game… None of us should be hanging on to every word that anyone says never the less a rapper… They are an artistic you are a fan but your number in interest still create who they can become in the industry and as a entertainer, how it flipped not sure… Parents should not be letting the children choose everthing especially music sometimes… I think we put too much on the rapper because you can reject any information that is in front of you… I also think that rapper gain a bigger ego when they do not get reality checks every now and then…

This is just another stage that Hip Hop has taken H.E.R. to. Common broke it down on his classic record and that record is still spinning. It will continually get worse. I honestly don’t even listen to rap music anymore….sad…

A lot people now and days want to be an artistic for the money, fame and woman that that think that they will be able to get but what happen to the passion for your music and the words that you speak? Money is now the new monopoly for everything but money can not solve every problem… We give money far much power while we act like family and relationships are so beneath us and all that it is doing it teaching the new generation of children to have no discipline because they will never have to work hard for nothing..

I lot of todays music only teaches separation and division…

To me the only real rappers that ever spoke some real truth was Tupac but I am sure that there are more and to me TI is like the new Tupac of today…

  • Caramel Cat

    @MY BAAD

I hear you, and I’ve been bumping some older stuff in the whip myself. Q-tip usually stays on some real stuff…

  • Slide Like A Fresh Pair of Gators

I like how back in the day if you couldn’t “spit” you couldn’t get in the game…

Nowadays all you need is a “catchy” dance song and you in there:
    - Sou.lja Boy “Crank That (*Superman That Ho),
    - GS Boys “Stanky Leg”

Hopped up out the bed and turned my swag on
Took a look in the mirror and said what’s up
    Yeah, I’m getting money…

    SMH @ the quality of today’s rap/hip-hop..

  • Caramel Cat

    @Slide

I kid you no lie, on the radio today I heard a song that was talking about ‘shawty sending a twitpic, and lol, smiley face, yada yada yada’….smh….

parents are the blame for the decline of their kids integrity.. when parents become sooo busy tryin to be overly youthful and “cool” instead of being responsible and maturing.. parents stopped listening to Anita Baker and Stevie Wonder and started listening to r kelly, pretty ricky and 3 6 mafia… WTF!!!!

The sad thing about the game now it’s ALL about gimmicks and forcing decent artist like Trey Songz to make a song like that… SMH

These white executives don’t respect hip-hop culture NOT one bit it’s all about gimmicks and making a song similar to the hottest song out…

Hip-Hop used to be about “originality” = If you’re doing this I’m doing that… The originality is GONE!!!

And even WORSE is the fact that “lyrically” most of the current popular artist are garbage…

  • Glok9…All we do iz Spark Mad Izm!!

AND YES I DO KNOW HOW IT DIED ..RUNDMC AND THAT FAGGT UNCLE RUSS SOLD HIP HOP OVER TO THE BAPHOMET >…HE TOLD ME TO WALK THIS WAY…. TALK THIS WAY, JUST GIMME A KISS!

  • PUSSYCATFUN

THE RAPPERS TODAY ARE REAL ABOUT ONE THING……THEY ARE REAL ABOUT HOW FAKE THEY ARE.

  • Ms. Littlejohn

Yes, rappers/entertainers are selling their integrity to a label in exchange of a check and stardom.

Very sad and very distorted I tell you to keep your sanity in this world you have to really reject some patterns in life and images because they all lie and get your mind and heart caught up in some BS…

Question: what is the difference between hip hop and professional wrestling ?

Answer: One has colorful characters dressed like clowns, with made up back grounds arguing over fake beef, while jumping around like a fools..

while the other has a ring with three ropes…

  • http://bossip MY BAAD

  • DR.FUNK

I won’t be annoyed if hip-hop/rap implodes & disappears. It won’t…but it’s value as a positive social medium has ALWAYS been overrated. It’s not even truly original. How soon we forget that it’s first commercial success came from a sampled DISCO SONG.It’s about time that another music genre emerged anyway.Step aside.

  • chaka1

    hip hop is dead…

  • chaka1

How we can save black music and young people:

    1. Be a parent to your children.
    2. Teach your kids how to play musical instruments
    3. Stress education in your home
    4. Teach your kids the value of a dollar
    5. Teach your kids the value of self worth
    6. Read Black Enterprise magazine. That’s where your REAL role models are.

  • RhymeNrezun

    @Glok:

Are you and I the only people who know about the Baphomet? Just for inquiring minds tho….check out The Truth About Hip-Hop.

Matter of fact, put this in your search bar: Beyonce’s Sasha Fierce Baphomet Hexagram Pose. I mean…..I have an open mind, ya dig? And sometimes you have to think outside the box.

I’d rather do that than be stuck in one.

  • God’s_Angel

If a rapper is dead broke, and the label tells him to rap about drugs and I’ll give you a big ole check, that rapper will sell his soul to survive. It’s about survival in most cases. The rappers have no say so…no control.

But for the rappers that have control…SHAME ON YOU! Unless your vocabulary is so limited that you can’t rap about much because you don’t know that many words, step your game up!

You are rapping about nonsense to our kids. And you will have kids someday…

  • texas man

hip pop ha lost its way , come bac to me

  • http://bossip WHERE HAVE ALL THE GOOD MUSIC GONE??? FORMERLY ANTONIO HANNA

I WONT EVEN DIRECT MY COMMENT TO ANY ONE BY NAME BECAUSE THE VOCABULARY THAT THEY USE AND THE GLORIFICATION OF ILLIGAL DRUGS AND GANGSTERISM LETS ME KNOW THAT ANY COMMENT THAT BEARS EVEN A SLIGHT RESEMBLENSE TO ACTUAL INTELLIGENSE WILL GET LOST IN THE SMOKE FROM THEIR “WEED”. IT SADDENS ME TO HAVE A VEHICLE PULL ALONG SIDE OF ME WITH THE VOLUME AT MAX-LYRICS ABOUT KILLING A N****,GETTING F***** UP,ETC,ETC.ETC, AND THE PERSON DRIVING IS OLDER THAN 16 Y/O YEA IN THE 30′S 40′S AND EARLY 50′S SAME THING WITH ADULT AGED MEN WITH PANTS HANGING AND UNDERWEAR AND A**** SHOWING!!! AND WE WONDER WHY SOME OF THESE KIDS HAVE THE WRONG OUTLOOK ON LIFE!!!SLY STONE SANG ABOUT “BABIES MAKING BABIES” IN THE 70′S WE ARE SEEING SOME OF THE RESULTS OF THIS DISASTER NOW. OF COURSE ITS ALL ABOUT THE MONEY!!!RECORD LABEL EXECUTIVES,T.V STATION EXECUTIVES,RADIO PROGRAM DIRECTORS DONT CARE ABOUT US!!! BIG DEAL!!! THE OJAYS TOLD US YEARS AGO THAT IT WAS ALL ABOUT THE MONEY!!! AND THE BIBLE ALSO WARNED US THAT “THE LOVE OF MONEY IS THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL!!! WE HAVE KNOWN THESE THINGS FOR A LONG TIME BUT WE JUST WONT LISTEN.NOW THE REAL QUESTION IS DO WE CARE ENOUGH ABOUT OURSELVES AND OUR CHILDREN NOT TO ALLOW THEIR OUTLOOK ON LIFE TO BE INFLUENCED BY A BUNCH OF RAPPERS/ARTISTS/PERFORMERS
WHO HAPPEN TO BE RICH AND DEFINETLY UNDER THE INFLUENCES OF SOME UNKOOL THINGS THEMSELVES. I PRAY THAT SOME OF THE PEOPLE THAT HAVE POSTED COMMENTS BEFORE ME(MALE&FEMALE) DONT HAVE CHILDREN.I WILL END WITH FOUR WORDS FROM A STEVIE WONDER SONG.”HEAVEN HELP US ALL” *(PLEASE) I ADDED THAT LAST WORD THAT BEGINS WITH THE LETTER P

    ILLIGAL SHOULD BE SPELLED ILLEGAL.

  • shizzy1

The problem isn’t that rappers sold their souls it’s that only one aspect of hiphop has the spotlight and the other areas of hip hop are not getting shine. Rap had this problem in the Mc Hammer days remember nobody said rap was dying then!

@ black man. ur 100% correct.
but lala, carmelo’s wifey says she’s hispanic; that’s part of the problem. blacks use the complexion meter more than anybody else.

byw, did anyone notice that the audience at the espy awards had more black ppl than the ebt awards audience. they were mostly light w/ splash of dark here and there. im just saying…
