Alicia Keys Stands by the Truth

Posted by Bossip Staff

Alicia Keys 416

Alicia is defending herself against the backlash of her “gangsta rap” statement:

“After reading the piece in the new issue of Blender, Keys insists her comments were ‘misinterpreted’ and she’s ‘disappointed’ with the ‘madness’ surrounding the article.

Keys explained, ‘I feel that I wasn’t a hundred per cent clear on what I was saying and so, because of that, it got slightly misinterpreted, and somehow it got misinterpreted that I was saying that the government was creating gangsta rap – and that’s not what I was saying. What I was saying was that the term gangsta rap was so over sloganised during that time… That’s what I was trying to talk about. In so many ways, everyday people, as well as the government, could have really done so much more to sorta (sic) obliterate and eradicate the things that were going on in the communities at that time that forced the artists to discuss and talk about, so strongly, what they saw, what they lived with.

“I don’t regret doing this interview; overall it was a great article. It was merely a line or two that has provoked all of this madness. I regret that a negative spin has been put (on it).”

It’s about time she silenced all that b*llshit. Kudos to Alicia for refusing to back down and apologize for making her statement.

  6. Well, I knew what she was trying to say.

I read about the very same kinds of things when I was in high school.

  7. ShavonDensie

Damn I know it was to good to be true. Not first after all but second, I’ll take the silver. Anyways, I think Alicia is doing what we call “damage control”. But in doing it she clarified her comments because some people didnt get what she said. She never meant the government created gangsta rap, she meant that they blew it out of proportion and for some reason blacks started to like being called a “gangsta’”, which when you put it with rap is a racist stereotype.

  8. MrsLaadee

It’s so refreshing to hear a female music artist actually have something intelligent to say and not just be showing ***** and a** all the time. I admire that Alicia stands up for what she believes in and doesn’t back down

what in the Bah-Jeezus is your gravie about?

    Apple?

  10. I'm Just Me

I am so glad she sounds educated and knows what she is talking about unlike Rite G describing the Kanye West video. Alicia is talented, attractive and smart. Go girl! And I still agree I think that the media did play a part in this bi-coastal thing becoming as big as it did.

  11. He's Presidential

Kudos to her for clarifying her statement. I feel the need to increase my vocab..

  12. do you hear the frantic sounds of back peddling???!???

    let the back peddling begin!!!!!!!!

come on alisha u said exactly what u meant but i guess in this politically and racially sensitive world u do what you gotta do,

and return to the generic robotic interviews

  13. whatwh

Oh sexy, pretty and adorable. I remembered I’ve seen her at the celebsite “mill ionairecupid” .c om a few weeks ago. She exclaimed she is looking for a great man for serious relationship there.

  14. valenne

og course, it was clear, i don’t even understand how some people did not get it in first place. she is way too clever!! And she really sound slike an educated woman. Kudos to you Alicia, you are the BEST!

  15. I love Alicia…that pic is gorgeous btw.

  16. Cage

That pic is bangin… I might have to temporarily suspend that lickher license ya’ll claim she has lol…

  17. Don't mind me

    She looks fab in pic

  18. da darkness

mos def there is alot of merit to her statement. look what heads did when triple six mafia came with “tear the club up!” cats was getting hurt. music is provoking. thats fact.

  19. Opeth

    Alicia’s got it partially right.

However, it’s not the government’s job to change what’s being discussed in music. That’s called ‘censorship’. Think about what happened in the ’80s when Tipper Gore tried to censor music. There was a huge outcry and that was before gangsta rap!

It is up to the community to define the standard. It’s as simple as turning off the radio or refusing to buy it if they think it’s trash. It wouldn’t get made if people didn’t want to hear it.

Why do we have to wait for the government to do these things???: Why can’t we take some responsbility? Isn’t that what Minister Farrakhan (among others) has been saying for the longest time???

  20. wtf

kudos?? she aint standing by the “original” story that came out, she is cleaning it up and clarifying it. Bossip is so sometimey. first they was giving her props for being practically militant with her fist in the air, now she’s coming back doing PR cleanup saying she isnt a conspiracy theorist and toning it down. *****ody told her to back down but she sure is putting some clorox on it.

  21. wtf

and she looks like ms. swan in this pic

  22. valenne

    @ OPETH,

That is not she is saying.

What she is saying is that the hip hop was the reflections of the issues we were experiecned at that time and intead of accusing the hip hop (the messenger), they shouild have help fond a solution and yes, that is the duty of the goverment, to eradicate violende, to guatantee equality between people etc…

I think that whht she is saying! Censore the hip hop is indeed not useful because that will not eradicate the REAL PROBLEM!But she wanted to say that the goverment just wanted to stygmatize the hip hop by saying : “they are gansters anyway, so why would you like to listen to them or to take them seriously!”

  23. valenne

  24. valenne

    horrible spelling as usual sorry!

  25. Opeth

What did Hillary Clinton say, ‘It takes a village’? The government isn’t going to eradicate violence. In my state, the police even say that it is not their job to protect people. Their job is to capture the people who break the law after they do it.

Once again, the onus lies on the people to stop the violence. People need to stop tolerating those who hurt or kill or sell drugs in their communities. The government can do things like provide adequate schools and clean water but they can’t convince people to stop hurting each other.

It’s not the duty of the government to find the solution to this problem. We have the power to do it ourselves! We have to do the harder rights than the easier wrongs.

  26. Suga Mo

    LOL @ WTF

..Like she said in her statement, ‘I feel that I wasn’t a hundred per cent clear on what I was saying… etc.’ Then say nothing. You gave someone a clear chance to make you look foolish.

  27. beyonce_alicia08

wow whats up everyone when i heard this i couldn’t and woldn’t believe alicia said this. but i do agree with her for some part.

  28. valenne

Explain, how you do to stop tolerate a ganag that harr***** people. How do you star tolerate a mafia that bause of people. It is not the duty of the goverment to ensure equality between people. Do you rememebr the affirmative act??

Yes it is the duty of the goverment and th epolice to protect us because it’s our tax that pay their salaries.

You cannot eradicate violence but if SCHOOL was mandatory as it is in France otherwise your parents are facing some serious problem, every body would be in school..

  29. valenne

    gang

stop tolerate a mafia that abuses of people

  30. who the hell cares,

  31. bree

she responded like 3 days ago..it’s not even that serious, i get her point.. & that AK-47 pendant thing is cute IMO

  32. Just Sit and Be Pretty

Typical media move…they can take an interview and edit to give a particular slant or perspective that is way off from the intended message. Glad she decided to clear up what was said…in context.

  33. Kiki

It’s true. The same thing was done with Crack Baby. There is no such thing as a crack baby but in the 80s and 90s the government sensationalized it and had everyone scared of crack babies growing up and disrupting schools and being criminals.

  34. 2oclock demon

Like her, but she still sounds misguided about this one. It’s all about the market place. Jews were selling kids that gangsta rap crap because kids were ready to shell out and buy…tools like 50 cents were ready to provide the labor because they thought of themselves as (artists). Government had no business in this…

  35. Earth Sign

I wish other artists would make a statement or make a stand, not just about rap, but about other issues surrouding our communities. AK said the right thing the 1st time, she should not have to reiterate herself. I wish there was more rap artist that spoke real ish like common, lupe, goodie mob, nas, talib, and mos def. Too much twurk music out, and no message. just imagine the younger generation listening to this music. Hip hop isnt quit dead yet, but da** near.

  36. tj

Well now that’a a lot better Alicia. However the interview put her original comments in quotes. You can’t tell me Blender magazine doesn’t record and transcribe their interviews… They said what you said girl… even if it’s not what you meant.

  37. wtf

aint *****ody looking foolish fool. its a PR move. think it aint? she quickly came out and did some clean up. did she not?? stfu and sit down

  38. Now she’s flipmoding? Pls. I never liked AK anyway. What a fake!

  39. valenne

please alicia keys is way too clever to say something stupid.

some of you guys don’t have any *****ytical skills. Remember those text we had to study and explain, you can find numerous explanations to the same sentence.

She is not fake and she is really literate unlike some other dumb artists that i would not name here!

  40. valenne

plus she is just expressing her opinion! at least she has one!

  41. @ TJ

Well now that’a a lot better Alicia. However the interview put her original comments in quotes. You can’t tell me Blender magazine doesn’t record and transcribe their interviews… They said what you said girl… even if it’s not what you meant.

    ——————————————–

I cosign. She said it and now she’s trying to flipmode b/c the media’s been on her *****.

  42. @ Valenne

plus she is just expressing her opinion! at least she has one!

    =====================================

    So stand behind your words!

  43. thatsbull00

Yea but these *****s embraced being called Gansters that’s where we went wrong

  44. shes a idiot, stick to your lame ***** songs, dont make anymore asinine comments..

  45. Melissa

Go head Lici say ya say and stick to ya story!!!!!

  46. Its obviously a PR clean up but I think the black panther thing was an “elaboration” of the truth. Maybe not. but does’nt matter much ’cause artists are given a manufactured image that must be upheld.

  47. memchee

I found nothing wrong with what she stated the 1st time around!

What she stated was All Too True!

  48. lanette

i understand exactly what she was trying to say.

don’t be a fool and think this government is down for Blacks and I wouldn’t put anything past them…not anything…please people don’t think the Amerikka is down for you…think for yourself -it’s been proven time and time again…

  49. WHY DID SHE EVEN BOTHER TO COMMENT?

    IS ALICIA KEYS A MUSLIM?

WHAT IS SHE REALLY INTO…NOW I WONDER IF SHE’S BEEN READING THAT KURAN *****…

    smh. career damage…poor thang

  50. they need to leave Alicia Keys alone, before I get gangsta on them ,lol

  51. Alot of people understood what she was saying. It’s just a damn shame that people have to dig, hunt and pick to make the headlines with negative *****. It’s all about getting people to talk and have disputes over foolishness.

To whoever made the comment about Tipper Gore “censoring” in the 80s: She was never about censoring. What she was about was putting a label on CDs indicating the content of the music. They do the same thing for the movies: its called the rating system. If we do this for movies, why not for music as well? I dont see a difference in the two.

  54. Wow so much conflicting news. Alicia Keys backtracks, Alicia Keys stands up for herself…etc.

Alicia Keys is a anti-White anti-Semitic racist. Keys says gangsta rap was invented by Jewish music producers to get rich off of blacks. Keys says the US gov’ment uses gangsta rap to kill high profile blacks.

Alicia Keys wants to be hard-core, but she can’t even take responsibility for what she said. What a fake-***** wanna-be gangsta bixh.

  55. HolyQuran

YO KAMARA, ARE U ON SOME BIBLE *****?

  56. HolyQuran

YO LYN, THATS EXACTLY WHAT THE US GOV USED GANGSTA RAP FOR! WHY IS THAT AN ANTI-SEMETIC STATEMENT.

IS SAYING JAPANESE BOMBED PEARL HARBOR AN ANTI-AMERICAN STATEMENT?

IS SAYING ALOT OF KOREANS OWN CONVENIENCE STORES AN ANTI-KOREAN STATEMENT?

GET REAL, GET OFF THAT ANTI-SEMETIC *****. U GUYS USE THAT ***** FOR ANY SINGLE EXCUSE.

I BET IF SOMEBODY SAID, ‘HITLER KILLED ALOT OF A JEWS BACK IN THE DAY’ U WOULD THINK THATS BEING ANTI-SEMETIC.

GUESS WHAT, AMERICA IS KILLING ALOT OF MUSLIMS IN IRAQ AND AFGHANISTAN. DOES THAT STATEMENT MEAN ALL AMERICANS ARE ANTI-SEMETIC???????

NO, A FACT IS A FACT.

  57. HolyQuran

    I MEANT…ALL AMERICANS ANTI-MUSLIM???
