Damn Ghost!! I never thought about it like that. I think your answer can even be extended to answer other questions, people always wonder why athletes get married compromising thier $$ in a divorce b/c they cant be faithful?? And as you said, its b/c the franchise wants their players to look wholesome and be marketable to mainstream America- you cant do that if you are a gigolo, player or sperm donor. So basically, the marriage is a front- maybe they find the best person for the role who they do love, but the commitment is not real- its a business move… Dayum!!

I’m sure Carmelo’s mother has something to do with him not marrying Lala! He was very close to his mother at one time. I hope that hasn’t changed because sometimes, mothers can see things in a girlfriend that their son might be blind to. Lala is a gold digger. Straight up. No chaser!

I am not going to call her a gold digger, but they need to get married since they have two kids.

What we as black folk don’t understand is IMAGE is everything with us.

Anyone else notice the lack of Carmelo and even Lebron James ads? I forget Carmelo was in the NBA at times he was so not a factor this season. There’s a reason for that lack of attention.

If you are trying to market your league or products to the nonghetto crowd, who are you going to us?

Carmelo and his babymomma? Or

Dwayne Wade, who is married with a child?

The NBA’s image is already bad as a thug league and promoting a bunch of guys with baby mommas doesn’t help. (Although they do market Steve Nash)

Even if it’s a short term marriage and you divorce at least you’re still marketable.

White folks know this, we need to learn that and think beyond the hood.
