If you would take the time to read any of my posts I never comment on Kim personally. I have never said I like her or even think about her. I agree with your observations/statements above. I PERSONALLY try to apply the same rubric “across” the board. I know “society” never will. But, as a consumer, I have the “right”/opportunity to do so. I agree that celebrities engaging in “mis”behavior don’t have the same societal impact as “everyday” people. I’m not looking so much at their overall “societal” impact as much as their “influential” impact. Stars live their lives and don’t care about my opinion. But, I personally feel that when one has achieved a position in which others “look up to” or try to “emulate” them, they should take responsibility for whatever their activities “promote”. This “personal” value is the same reason I have problems respecting many (if not most) hip-hop artists etc. They make “crazy” money promoting activities that can “destroy” the lives of others if carried out. Sure, they aren’t (still) “shooting” people (most of the time) like they rap about. But, if young people are listening to this music, getting “pumped up”, trying to prove they are “real”, and go out and shoot/kill someone, they are going to suffer the consequences of such actions. Yes, the “artist” didn’t put the gun in their hand or give them a direct “command”, but they are influencing the paradigms through which these young people look at and analyze situations. I believe in INDIVIDUAL responsibility, so if someone shoots another, they can’t justify it by saying “Fifty made me do it.” Nevertheless, I still believe that Fifty and others have a moral responsibility because of their influential position. Along those lines, I think Kim, Whitney, Lil Kim, etc. have the same social responsibility b/c so many young girls look up to them and want to be like them as well. That’s the point I’m trying to make.

If these “stars” were strictly “exposed to”/”influencing” mature adults, I would be less vocal/critical about their activities and just let each “adult” decide for him or herself how they want to respond.
