Amtrak trains just got the green light allowing American passengers to bring unloaded guns onto trains.

Mississippi Republican Senator Roger Wicker who sponsored the bill was pleased when the Senate voted on Wednesday to allow Amtrak passengers to carry unloaded and locked handguns in checked baggage:

Under the Wicker amendment, Amtrak would lose the funds earmarked for it in the must-pass spending bill if it did not comply with the new regulations. In a statement released after the amendment passed, Mr. Wicker stressed the guidelines laid out in the provision — which would also insist that a passenger notify Amtrak that he or she is transporting a handgun and that only that passenger could unlock the secure container holding the gun.

“Americans should not have their Second Amendment rights restricted for any reason, particularly if they choose to travel on America’s federally subsidized rail line,” Mr. Wicker said in the statement.

The bill was supported by states that have a high support rate on gun rights. Although the bill has been passed, the House will still have to vote and hopefully can stop this legislature from being amended.

I don’t think it is that big of a deal since the the gun has to be unloaded, locked up and in a checked bag. They can’t get to the gun if it is under the train.

WTF!!! I bet fools wont get out of line on the subway anymore! Hahahahaha! However, I think it’s stupid as he!! By the time you get your key out for you locked compartment, unlock it, open your stowed bag, find your gun and load it…I’ll be then kicked your a** for thinking you were going to shoot me.

Thats a shame. I use Amtrak all the time. I will not feel safe riding with other p*****engers not knowing whether or not they have a gun in possession. I think I may have to find a new way to travel.

I really hope Amtrak loses A LOT of business behind this foolishness!

Damn! I’ve always wanted to take a ride by train! Was even thinking of catching one to Shreveport for some gambling, but not w/ nuts carrying pistols on board!!! HELL NAW! Soon as they start letting them carry in checked baggage, some nut WILL be bringing one in their carry-on, no doubt.

Oh Please….. That is not news. No one gets searched on Amtrak so no one knows how many folks that are packing heat. They allowed folks to travel with guns on airplane. You just have to get it checked in at the gate. Find some real News Idiot Sticks

I’m glad!

If I were to take amtrak, I would feel better knwoing my piece is not far away.

If mu*****kas can succeed in highjacking an airplane (9/11) I’d want to know I have somewhat of a fighting chance with my protection on ME–not relying someone else to save my *****!

This is interesting, seeing that if people wanted to carry guns on Amtrak, they probably started doing so a long time ago. Amtrak’s security measures are HORRIBLE!! They don’t really check anything except for your ID. Completely WHACK.

This goes to show the world is already going down hill, all this is a high rated law suits, come on AMTRAK, don’t they want to be in business for along time, I don’t think I would ride the train, Life is so beautiful, why take chances riding a train were they approved of taking guns aboard, what silly law to p*****, this remind me of western movies Gun Smoke, Gunman holding up the train,…No respect all for human life…

I agree w/ you cold hartedly. But the world is different now. Before I settled down and had kids, I would of said that this post is ridiculous. But Since I’ve moved from NY to Cali (OH, WHEN THEY SAY ITS THE WILD WILD WEST, THEY AINT PLAYIN!!!) I’ve seen the world different. It also doesnt help to have a former US Marine as a hubby. He have “roughen” me up a little. I dont trust a Nicca w/ my family. I have to HAVE on for my home. Gov. Schwartze***** CUT half the police force here in Sacramento (mind you, this is the STATE’S CAPITAL) and I rarely see sheriffs/police presence anywhere. Like I was told by a fellow Californian, PROTECT YOUR OWN…..
