Akon got caught lying to boost his “street cred”:
“In past interviews, the singer has made it clear that he headed ‘a notorious car theft operation’ that specialized in boosting Porsches, Lamborghinis, and Mercedes, owned four chop shops catering to ‘celebrities and drug dealers,’ and had frequent run-ins with the police.
TSG, however, reports the real story behind his allegedly crimes and prison story. In September 1998, Akon was charged with handgun possession and receiving stolen property. He posted $3,500 bond and was free.”
Basically Akon was caught driving a stolen vehicle, but wasn’t charged with grand theft auto. A Federal Agent lays it out:
“‘Ah, this is bullsh**,’ he [said]. ‘This guy is so phony. He’s an arrogant SOB… I don’t think he had any role besides [wanting] to drive a high-dollar vehicle. And I say this because we didn’t link him to any other cars.’”
This simple-ass individual lied about jail time and thought he wasn’t going to be found out? These things always come to the surface eventually.

This cat never came off to me like a street cat. When he first emerged singing that locked up stuff, he just sounded like a singer with a catchy tune. I’m not going to say that most rappers fabricate their lives, but a lot over-exaggerate their lives to seem more street. But the ones to really watch out for are those, who don’t say much and stay the hell humble, because they really know what’s up. Several rappers have been called out in the last year or so about this exact thing. Yo’ boy Plies the Florida rapper claims to always have a gun and claims to be the realest cat ever, well only if he made a song about how his college graduation went, it would probably add some truth to his life. Yo’ boy Young Jeezy claims to be a real weight(drug) pusher, yet he gave up all that and had the time to write rhymes and record albums in the studio and *****ody ever got up with this dude, interesting. Not saying these guys are not from the hood and may know cats who actually parti*****tes in this nonsense, but to put yourself in these shoes and then boast and brag about it, makes you a lame in my book.
I never did like Akon as an artist and when I found out he had like 5 wives, I was threw with him all together. SMH at these wanna be gangsters!

Did anyone actually read the article on thesmokinggun.com? From what I read, He had several run-ins with the law, HE SPENT 4-MONTHS in prison. So, he just exaggerated his past like many other entertainers…Akon by far wasn’t choir boy, he just exaggerated the fact.

I mean, would you want your child to learn that 1. lying is a good thing and 2. that the more arrests one gets, the more worthy he/she is?
