In the newest issue of Jet, Raven-Symoné reveals why she won’t change for fame:
‘”I have to stay true to who I am’, says Disney star Raven-Symoné, 22, regarding her new self-titled CD, which is slated for release April 29. ‘I am not going to sing about sex, drugs and violence, that’s just not who I am’, she continues. As she prepares for the CD’s release and a 55-city Pajama Party concert tour, the confident and talented entertainer hopes this project will fill a void in today’s music. We need some music that will open people’s minds up and give them other things to think about other than the same things we have been giving them for a while. Maybe my album can do that.’
While the 5-foot-2-inch singer-actress stays true to her music, she’s also staying true to her image by being comfortable with her size. ‘When I look in the mirror and see how voluptuously fabulous I am, I can’t even worry about it. I am just fabulous.’”
Kudos for Raven for taking a stand. It’s refreshing to see a young artist trying to be on the up and up. Now, we’ll have to wait to see how that translate into record sales. She might change her tune real quick if she comes up dry.

I’m so proud of her. I wish more young girls would look up to her than they do these other young female celebs that are constantly getting press for their scandoulous ways i.e. Paris, Britney, Kim, Lindsey, etc. Raven is a great example that you don’t have to be skinny, walking around half naked, get in trouble with the law, pose in men’s magazines wearing hardly anything, release sex tape and w***** the cameras, or party all the time in order to be successful.
So what if her album doesn’t sell, none of them have – but she still stays true to herself. Plus, she is already paid so it’s not like she is doing it for the money…she is doing it out of the love for the craft.
I thought her pajama tour was postponed? Anywho, I actually like her music that I’ve heard so far. Another blog has snippets of it, and it sounds good. I like Raven and her confidence. I don’t think this is cute cover for her though…her face looks funny.

I respect Raven, she is a talented individual, however there are some issues i have with her. On interviews she never comes across as if she’s sticking to this “image” because she genuinely loves it. Though it is good that she stays true to herself, I dont think she exactly is. As a 21 year old do you think she really, really, wants to have a “pajama party” tour?? Come on. It’s so sad that these teen stars have to stick to this teeny bopper crowd even though they are past that. What happens is further down the line they end up on a spiral, because their careers can’t get them past that. While I feel it’s good that she represents herself in a good light, that doesn’t mean that she can’t grow up in this world. Just like there is an image of people who are “scandalous”, Raven does to have an image she likes to uphold in the public eye. Though I think it’s good, there’s always something that doesn’t rub me right when certain celebs always portray this “image.” Especially in her case always having to be this certain way, and be stuck in a certain age demographic will take it’s tool.
I am so proud of Raven. I have enjoyed her work for years, and she is an excellent role model. Here she is a rich and famous young lady, yet she has never been involved in any type of scandal, and she appears to have been very well raised. I wish young women like Raven would recieve more attention form the media. It isso refreashing to see a young woman doing things right!
First off, that is a hideous picture of Raven. Ugh. Second, there is a difference between being voluputous and being overweight and unhealthy. Raven could stand to lose a few pounds simply for her health. She’s too fat for her height. She should go to the gym and eat clean. I think people really underestimate her show. Thats So Raven is not just a kiddie show, it is a family show. IT is a modern rendition of family matters, full house, parenthood, etc. That’s my opinion in my timeframe cause I’m 23 and when I visit my lil bro and sis I sit and watch it with them. I enjoy the show and enjoy that fact that my bro and sis enjoy it as well. IT is a wholesome show and I’m glad that she continues these things for the youth despite her age. I really think she simply enjoys it. IT makes her feel younger. Stacey Dash played a teenager in clueless while she was in her 30’s and Olivia Newtown John played in grease when she was in her 30’s.
Besides that people need to stop being so concerned with her weight. Worry about your own health because if you smoke (ciggs or weed), drink, have unprotected sex, drink too much caffeine,constantly stressed then chances are your health isn’t the best no matter how many times a week you hit the gym. IF her doctors or nutitionists are not saying her weight is potentially fatal then let her be. I’m sure if it became a problem she would definitely care to eat green foods, and work out daily with a trainer. For now she’s ok so let her be. Who in the hell ‘OKed’ this picture. It is sooo not flattering! Her smile looks crazy, her over-arched eyebrows look even crazier, and although she is “voluputuos” that dress is not flattering at all. I guess Jet magazine only had enough money in the budget to take 2 kodak pictures instead of a real photoshoot.

Thank you for your response and for your additional info on Raven’s income. As for Raven’s weight, I’m much more concerned about the health of women (and men) who lack the money to afford a nutritionist, personal trainer, gym membership, etc., or who lack access or transportation to a supermarket with healthy food. And I think there are women who CAN be healthy with more rotund shapes because not everyone is meant to be a size 2. In short, if Raven’s health is at risk, I’m sure she has the means to expeditiously change her eating and/or exercise habits.
