We want to wish the best for Plaxico Burress, even though we always give him a hard time for shooting himself in the leg like Cheddar Bob. He made a mistake and is serving his time for it now:
One-time Super Bowl hero Plaxico Burress was sentenced to two years in prison Tuesday for violating New York’s stringent gun laws and was immediately taken into custody following his hearing.
Burress agreed to a plea deal last month and pleaded guilty to a lesser firearms charge. The charges stemmed from an incident late last fall, in which Burress accidentally shot himself in the thigh at a Manhattan nightclub with a gun that had not been licensed in New York.
He is expected to serve about 20 months with credit for good behavior — meaning he could be released as early as the spring of 2011 — followed by two years of probation. Burress arrived at the courthouse at 9:41 a.m. ET on Tuesday wearing jeans and a long-sleeved T-shirt, a stark contrast to the dark blue suit he wore last month when he entered his guilty plea. He was accompanied by his pregnant wife, Tiffany, his almost 3-year-old son, Elijah, whom he carried, his father and stepmother, and his grandmother.
Before the sentencing began, Burress asked for and was granted permission by Judge Michael Melkonian to say one last goodbye to his wife and family, seated in the fifth row of the courthouse. The hearing was brief, as the prosecution and defense told the judge they had previously agreed to the guilty plea and two-year sentence. A soft-spoken Burress then apologized to his family and fans and thanked them for their support. “We will all get through this,” he said.
He was then taken into custody.
We keep Plax and his family in our prayers on his two year bid and offer the same advice as all brothers do… “stay strong,” because jail is a dangerous place.

I’ve yet to understand why ppl say keep your head up and good luck, etc. when ppl are going to jail. If you know that something is wrong, you would be in the predicament that you are in now. Just like when TI bought enough guys to go to Iraq and fight the war by his damn, why tell him good luck? He knew it was wrong.

I dont nor does anyone that follows the easily outlined law. Im tired of people defending Plax or telling his simple ass to keep his head up. The Giants every year before camp have a detailed session with the NYPD explicitly telling them the law regarding handguns in the city and state of New York, every year… As far as Pierce being a snitch thats some weak shit for you clowns to label him. Look, I’ve seen recently where people knowingly get drunk, get in a 2-5000 pound weapon and have KILLED someone and have gotten 30 days!
This dude makes a mistake, yea a bad one, but no one get’s killed and he pretty much only attempted to hide it and only he, himself was hurt.

I grew up in New York and a friend of mine got caught with a gun in New York. he was not a tough guy and he was short with a big butt. He said with in 15 minutes at Riker island he was approach by two guys that was going up for 25 to life. Thats when everything went down hill. He got 1 year for the gun charge but in that year he spent most of his time grabbing his ankles or on his knees to include washing clothes. He was never the same when he got out.New York has very strict gun laws Plex could of gotten min of 3 years if the wanted to be nasty.

I do not disagree with his sentence because he broke a law and it looks like he knew about it (see Txhustlr15 comment), but the cost for families with family members in jail is very high. Not to say they have it as bad as some families, but his wife and family are used to a lifestyle that they probably cannot keep up without his income. There are also a lot of emotional costs too.
