4 Black males where killed in Chicago last week. 2 where college students standing outside of the house, someone they didn’t know came up and shot them. Another one was sitting in a car waiting for someone to come out the house when someone came up and shot him.
Chicago needs to bring back the gang taskforce to start banging heads again. As soon as they got rid of it this ***** started back up again.

Why aren’t they doing more to bring attention/concern to the issues going on in their own streets, especially Oprah, since she certainly has the forum for it? Chicago has progressively gotten worse IMO, over the last yr. Someone said the gang task force was dismantled, maybe this is why?
In any case, it is so sad, on many levels (the children, our future, the families of both the victims and the perps, etc). Some parts of chicago always remained like this. I remember my Dad saying how some areas he’ll never go to.

You have females have children & their dad either not a part of their lives or have been killed in gang violence. Mom could be on drugs, grandma could be raising kids… you never know. These kids have no direction, no beliefs, nor care of anohter human life b/c they do not value their own lives. Someone needs to tell these children, they are important, make something of yourselve, go to school & meet your future wife.

The school was closed down since Thursday because of the violence, and there is more violence expected today @ Fenger High. This is, as some suspected, the result of gang violence.
The girl who took the video took it to the victims family, and then to police. She is scared to be identified for fear of retaliation.
WHY are our kids going to school in fear for their lives?
WHY did the police that were on the scene (yes, there were police on the scene) wait for back-up before attempting to break up the melee’?
I say bring back the gang task force! Yes, those **********ers were crooked to some degree also, but our children were better protected than they are now! Either that, or as someone said above, get a vigilante group together and take back our streets!

This is what I mean by Obama not speaking up or drawing attention to what is obviously a problem for his city. I know he’s the POTUS and has other more pressing issues, I really do understand that, but when he can make a PERSONAL pitch to bring the 2016 Olympics to your city, but then ignore the violence that is plaguing the same streets, I have a problem with that. Downtown chicago is a pretty safe place to be, the universities here are institures of higher learning, and well protected, especially if they are downtown..

(I’m a chicagoan) and the ignant black folks know that you can pop off all the mess you want to in your own neigborhoods, but you bring that mess downtown and that’s your *****! lol…

The city is so huge you’ve got to travel at least 40 minutes by train to get from where this crime took place (south side of Chicago), to downtown chicago.

I love my city, but damnnnn i can’t stand the ghetto-thugs of the younger generation who seem to be out of control, all across the country (not just Chicago)

I just don’t see the point in blaming Obama. Crimes like this have been going on for years!!!

What we as parents need to do is to take a PERSONAL responsibility in raising our children!!!!

Of course, there are always going to be outside influences. However–if your child is raised with STANDARDS, self respect, and respect of others, it’s no way in hell they’re going to run around committing crimes like these.

For instance–my son listens to hip hop. That doesn’t make it OK for him to emulate the people who perform it.

@mojojojo – no, this is just hitting the national circuit. Gang violence in Chi-town has been bad, with some even saying it’s the “worst summer in memory”. Back in May, I think, there was an article about 1 black youth per week being killed due to gang violence. One weekend in particular this summer, there were 4 killings and 2 wounded (6 shootings in one weekend), all due to gang/gun violence. Now, the world at large may not know, but I tend to think that Obama, being that it’s his hometown, would know by now.

I live in Chicago and the death poll amongst the younger generation is beyond ridiculous. It is so sad, sometimes you don’t even want to watch the news or listen to the radio because you are going to hear about some child being killed. I’m glad that they caught them, but it does not solve the problem at hand. Too much blk on blk violence, we have got to find another way. Our youth eliminating each other, we don;t need the whites to do it, when we practice killing ourselves daily.

Then there’s the families of the a–hole kids, that did this. Everyone should not be able to have children. You have to have a driver’s license to drive, but anyone can have a kid. Teaching starts at home. A lot of mothers are either crack heads themselves or working long hours so they can get their hair did and party on weekends….People just don’t care about their children…. I’m the product of a single mom who raised 6 kids…. 4 out of 6 kids GRADUATED from college with one currently in college….my mom controlled her household…my brothers weren’t in gangs nor wore earrings, ect….No excuses people!!

I am a Black substitute teacher, and I think the Mexican- and African- American communities need to be steralized. We have the highest teen-aged birthrate (71%) with Hispanics following behind at 52%. Of course, we are only 12% of the population, so have a long way to go to catch up with them, but it is ridiculous. In the past week, I have talked to three pregnant 14 year olds, all Mexican American, and freshmen in high school. What in the hell do families do anymore? I really felt for Derrion’s mom watching her on the news. My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family so they can pull through this.

quite shocking to see a h.s. fight last that long w/o school security (off duty cops) or the police show up.

Good thing they didn’t have guns, cuz’ more people probably would have been killed.

So tragic; and to have happened to someone with their young life on the right track.

I believe that you should leave the cities when you have kids. I grew up in Harlem and the Bronx and it is hard for girls. But its way harder for the boys. I just don’t understand why anyone with teenage kids especially would want to stay in the city. Its no place to raise a family at all. These young men and women are so angry and allowed to stay out at all times of the night and see things that they should never see at an early age.
These hard ***** kids today ain’t even kids anymore. OMG have you ever been on a train or bus in Ny when schools out. It makes you want to shoot yourself. They are loud ghetto and just plain embarr*****ing to our race. SMDH

Karionga I understand where your coming from. But Africans have their issues back home as well. Trust me I know. We African Americans should go back and see for ourselves true. But not all African Americans are into cars, clothes,etc. When I hear that 2 African men with aids rape a baby because they believe that it will get rid of their disease I did not say All Africans are naive and dumb. I myself and many others have always supported and defended Black folk, but after watching this video, tears were streaming down my face and I had to literally get up and leave the room. I have never believed in the death penalty, but after watching what these animals did to this young honor student, who just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, it wouldn’t take much persuasion for me to change my philosophy and wish these Thugs were put to death. Enough is enough. I have spoken out on many blogs and public forums supporting Black folk, but today I draw the line!!!!!! This black on black youth violence has got to stop. How dumb can one be to gradually wipe out your own race. What idiots are being birthed into this world that you kill your own people!!!
