R Kelly admitted to having some serious set backs. Including being challenged by books:

He also gave a very inspirational speech to the children.

Reading is fundamental. You cannot increase your capacity to learn unless you read. Now that he has his paper straight, you would think that he would tackle his innability to read. Hire a damn tutor, start with Jack and Jill, then Cat in the Hat. When your ready move on to Jet magazine and Ebony they have about a 7th grade level.

1) How much money did he get swindled out of by not knowing how to read his contracts?

There are different levels to reading just like there are different levels to math. Some of you who are making disparaging remarks…would have a tough time solving a word problem if I where to give one to you right now, because you can not read and comprehend on a high level.

The sports players, rappers, singers who all focused their attention from an early age on the one skill they had to “make it” in society. -paucity
-trachle
-agroof
-tremolo
-chimera
words like that. If you know how to read, you learn to sound out words you dont know.
Math is different because there are different types of math. Algebra, Calculus, Logic, Fractions, trig etc….you are learning new ways of solving a problem with different rules and theorems, so to speak. So you are learning everyday in math.
Reading is pretty easy if you know the basics of it. Sound it out! lol

Reading is so fundamental it is ridiculous. I read a lot growing up as a young girl in a west indian family. I did not get to go outside and play, so i READ. I read everything. I was always at a higher grade reading level, where I had to go to the next cl***** up during reading time. I was in academic english in high school. (my only honors cl***** ever, by the way) As I got older, I would notice my peers would look down on my because I spoke ‘proper’. Being a black girl, that was like it was a put down. “You talk so proper…blah blah blah.” My mom would always tell me to say: “How am I supposed to sound?” It used to bother me, until I got older and realized I had an Ace in my pocket! Now I know I have an advantage in a job interview, or trying to get ANYTHING done on the phone, so on and so forth. People look at you different once you open your mouth and speak intelligent words, instead of slang and ebonics. Now, I love it! I love to see the surprise in peoples eyes, when they expect me to be an uneducated black woman who cannot articulate her thoughts! BAM! Then I drop them with the knowledge. So for all those women, girls, future leaders, who think is it cool to talk like you never had any grammar lessons…it will only be a burden in the future. Trust. Trust me on this. At 20 years old i would be sitting on the train going to work reading the Wall Street Journal. (Yes, my Econ cl***** required it, but I actually understood all the articles) All the white folk would look at me in amazement. So Kells, my hope for you is that you stop glorifying the fact you are a functioning illiterate, and pick up a book. Till this day, I could spend $1,000 at a bookstore. I love books.
FYI-My grandmother, who I have never met, is illiterate. She is from Guyana, where the girl children’s education(back in the day) gets put on a backburner. smh

R. Kelly has written a new song, “Rise Up,” about healing in the aftermath of the April 16 shootings at Virginia Tech. A gunman killed 32 people and himself on the university’s campus in Blacksburg, Va.
“Rise Up” will be available digitally May 15, and 100 percent of the net proceeds from its sale will go to the Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund, said Jive Records, Kelly’s record label.
Kelly, 40, wrote the inspirational ballad after watching the events unfold on television while he was on tour, Jive said.
The lyrics include the lines: “Rise up, when you feel you can’t go on, rise up, and all of your hope is gone, rise up, when you’re weak and you can’t be strong.”
The Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund was created to provide *****istance to the families of the victims, as well as grief counseling and other needs for those affected by the shootings.

This is no news. I was looking at an interview he did over 15 years ago and I was turned off completely because he sounded like someone that had a limited attention span. Honestly, try telling someone they need to read when they’ve made millions w/o it and they see people with masters making less than 50gs. That is the real problem, he doesn’t “think” he needs to. People in his industry need to become their own advocates through education because if you don’t know how to read contracts, and have to trust what someone else is telling you. No telling what you may sign.

Eh y’all late then a motha! He openly admits to having poor grammar and reading skills many times before. He explained it’s because throughout his childhood he didn’t stay in one school. His mom, him and his two other siblings moved a lot due to poverty.
I think its admirable that he admits that he cannot read well. Back than a lot of kids concentrated more on sports (basketball and football) than their education. Kells is not the only one. America just recently took education seriously especially in the South. Football/Basketball was more important and they let athletes p***** cl*****es even if they couldn’t count, read, write etc. Who better to tell others to take education seriously than someone who has been through it, someone who cannot read.
