Chris Rock is getting sued by Regina Kimbell, a director who claims she showed Rock her film “Nappy Roots” in 2007 and that’s where the idea for “Good Hair” came from.

According to Regina, she showed Chris her 2005 documentary on the set of his sitcom “Everybody Hates Chris” back in 2007 and he stole the premises of her film to make his own “Good Hair.”  “Nappy Roots features celebs who discuss different hairstyles such as the Afro, the Jheri curl and dreadlocks. Chris Rock’s film pretty much does the same. Regina is seeking no less than 5 million in damages.

We guess good hair ain’t so good after all.

Hey… Chris Rock said he came up with the idea because his daughter said to him, “Daddy, why come I don’t have good hair?” Hmmmmm…. Somebody’s telling stories!!!

  • realness

How many of y’all judge and jury peeps have seen both documentaries? stop well even one of them? exactly! STFU

  • Crunch Berry

The idea is not really that origibal. It’s something that people discuss often, just not usually in so public of an arena. I agree w/ BG on this one. If the story has to be told, I’d rather hear it from Chris Rock than some randon chic (unless she is reaalllly hilarious)

    Translation and adaptation rights
The acts of translating or adapting a work protected by copyright also require authorization from the rights owner. Translation means the expression of a work in a language other than that of the original version. Adaptation is generally understood as the modification of a work to create another work, for example adapting a novel to make a film; or the modification of a work for different conditions of exploitation, e.g., by adapting a textbook originally written for university students to make it suitable for a lower level.

Translations and adaptations are themselves works protected by copyright. So in order to publish a translation or adaptation, authorization must be obtained both from the owner of the copyright in the original work and from the owner of copyright in the translation or adaptation.

The scope of the right of adaptation has been the subject of significant discussion in recent years because of the greatly increased possibilities for adapting and transforming works which are embodied in digital format. With digital technology, manipulation of text, sound and images by the user is quick and easy. Discussions have focused on the appropriate balance between the rights of the author to control the integrity of the work by authorizing modifications, and the rights of users to make changes which seem to be part of a normal use of works in digital format.

WHY IS THIS CHILD EVEN GETTING A RELAXER(NOT PERM A PERM GIVES YOU PERMANENT CURLS A RELAXER RELAXES THE CURLS IN TO STRAIGHT DEAD LIMP STRANDS) DO YOUR HOMEWORK PEOPLE! THE CHEMICALS IN THE RELAXER SEEP INTO THE PORES ON THE SCALP AND SIT ON THE SCULL LEAVING A GREEN SLIMY HORRIBLE SMELLING FILM OVER A LONG PERIOD OF TIME. A CHILD UNDER 13 SHOULD DEFINETLY NOT HAVE THAT ON THERE HEADS BECAUSE THEY STILL ARE DEVELOPING FROM ADOLESCENSE INTO YOUNG ADULT HOOD AND THOSE DAMN CHEMICALS CONFUSE THE NORMAL CHEMICALS IN THE BODY. CAUSE HORMONAL IMBALNCES AND SHE IS MORE THAN LIKE GONNA HAVE NO EDGES CAUSE THIS IDIOT WOMAN IS RELAXING ALL THE DAMN HAIR AND NOT JUST THE ROOT THAT SHOULD BE ONLY ON THE HAIR ROOTS NOT THE DAMN SCALP IDIOTS IDIOTS IDIOTS!!

  • sweetga

THESE CHEMICALS WE THINK ARE NO BIG DEAL WHY DO YOU THINK THE DOCTOR TELLS A PREGNANT WOMAN TO NOT COLOR HER HAIR OR PUT ANY TYPE OF CHEMICAL IN IT. BECAUSE THERE IS A HIGH PROBABILITY THAT IT WILL HURT IF NOT DESTROY THE FETUS. NOW IF IT CAN HURT OR DESTROY THE FETUS WHAT DO YOU THINK IT IS DOING TO YOU. THAT’S WHY WEAVES AND PRESS OUTS ARE WONDERFUL IF YOU MUST HAVE A STRAIGHT LOOK ALL THE TIME OR SOME TIMES YOU MUST THINK PEOPLE. . WHY DO YOU THINK SO MANY AFRICAN AND AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMEN HAIR IS EITHER BALD IN THE MIDDLE, THINNING IN THE MIDDLE OR FALLING OUT IN CLUMPS? THE CHEMICAL IS EATING YOUR HAIR I AM GONNA NEED YOU TO GET IT TOGETHER AND CHOOSE TO DO THE CORRECT THING NOT THE ACCEPTABLE THING. WE ARE THE COOLEST CHICKS ON THE PLANET (NO OFFENSE TO OTHER FEMALES IN OTHER RACES BUT WE SET THE TREND AND EVERY ONE FOLLOWS.) GET IT TOGETHER REFLECT

  • sweetga

WORD @L! WE ARE ON THE SAME PAGE TOTALLY AGREE WITH ALL YOU ARE SAYING

  • Chb018

She has no case, the judge will throw it out. I’m sure Chris Rock has a great team of lawyers. You can do a documentary on the same subject. Look at history documentaries. When your rich your always gonna have some broke people out for an easy buck. Please… Okay.

  • MSCARDAJ

I dont feel he owes her anything, we do hairshows all the time and I’ve been to all types of different cities and states and there really all the same but u dont c the bonner brother suing or even madame c.j. walker. She just want some money, its still a recession yall, I hope she lose.

P.S. THE TEXTURE OF “NAPPY ROOTS” IS VERY DIFFERENT FROM “GOOD HAIR”. NAPPY IS COARSE HAIR AND GOOD IS FINE HAIR OR MEDIUM HAIR. DUH!

  • http://lolamack.com Lola

forget that, the child in that picture has NO edges perm done ate her hair but before she’s 21

  • Mia

Does the topic of black hair belong to this Regina woman? Does she own it? Really? I don’t know… that’s like National Geographic filing a lawsuit against the Discovery Channel for their planet earth series… same stuff, different presentation… I think this woman is just upset her documentary on the same subject never became as popular as Chris Rock’s. Meh. I hope the court dismisses the case against him. It seems silly.
