According to the president of the IOC (International Olympic Committee), if they were out to make money off the Olympic games they would have chosen Chicago in the bid for the 2016 games.

President Jacques Rogge said that the choice for Rio to host the 2016 Olympic games had nothing to do with money, and if it did then the committee would have chosen Chicago in the bid for a host city:

“If we had thought about how to make a lot of money we would have chosen Chicago,” Rogge said as the body would down the Olympic movement’s XIIIth congress. Money is not what drives IOC members when it comes to choosing a host city.”

Even with Barack, Michelle, and Oprah there for the presentation, Chicago was unable to gain the bid to host the Olympic games, instead Rio will become the first ever South American city to stage the prestigious games.

This was about the changing world we live in yall.

The US isnt the only player anymore. We have a G20 because there are LOTS of countries with cards now. Like Jesse J said this weekend, Chicago may have thought they could bring something to the Olympics but the Olympics wanted to GIVE SOMETHING to Brazil…a country that has never had an Olympics and frankly, needs it for its people.

Chicago needs to worry about how to keep its own kids safe instead. Start at HOME.

    Thank you. Ghetto rubbish!

I know this, I won’t be travelling to Brazil, I might have travelled to Chicago.

why is Chicago making such a big deal about losing the bid for the Olympics? I know it’s big but it’s already been decided. let it go.

Brazil had to be the pick for the IOC to have any credibility with the rest of the planet that does not include the West countries. It cannot be seen as truly global if Africa and South America never hosted the games. Most educated people that live in that part of the world are ignoring the West it its eternal greed and narcissism. Not to knock Chicago but who wants to run the gauntlet that is US Customs? Brazil will be a good host and many of us will be able to throughly enjoy them. It is a well known fact that people from the tropics are warm friendly and most importantly polite.

America lost the bid to another country, get over it… Not really a big deal..

  • Darth H8ter

most people in Chicago know that it is a corrupt city and the corrupt IOC would only have made it worse. The burden would have been on the taxpayers when Daley and his minons would have gotten their take.

  • Darth H8ter

actually, it was a bout 50/50 for the city, nt clear on burbs and statewide on olympic supporters. The problem is, most people don’t trust the budgets or politiicans in Chicago

  • white male

You know our Olympic athletes will bring some aids back with them.

  • facingreality

Why would they want to have the games in a city where people were protesting against it and a country that is so racist against the leader of the free world.

  • Green Grass

Truly I don’t think anyone outside of the USA thought the games were goin to be held in Chicago, I’m just saying.

  • Ara

Rio, has some very large shoes to fill, because the host of the last Olympic Games, Beijing, were absolutely phenomenal. I mean they impressed the h*ll out of me. They really raised the bar. Best one I’ve seen yet.

  • Wreckless Driver

The Olympics are a money LOSING event for any country that hosts them. The amount of money that Brazil will have to spend on security alone make having the games a money loser for them.China spent outrageous sums of money to host the last summer Olympics and LOST money doing it. Chicago is much better off not having to deal with the headache that Atlanta and Los Angeles had to deal with.

  • boy blue

Brazil will host World Cup in 2014 and The olympics in 2016. WOW. Not right!

  • Priscila

This is such a great opportunity for Brazil,I’m happy for them, and definetly going to see it,I love Rio
