So my question to you is a lot of people especially here in Houston are just exhausted…we got New Orleans descendants who had to relocate their whole legacy and families…we had Hurricane Ike to come thru pretty rugged, we had quite a few jobs go under after the hurricane due to insurance flaws and damage costs in addition to the economy failure for other businesses…so how do you motivate a group of people who have been thru more than anybody else on the planet?

Do you encourage them by pointing out the flaws because obviously we…and I include myself…are not enthusiastic enough to start a revolution while the focus is on what we do wrong…I feel more encouraged when you tell me what we do right.

We have clothing lines, businesses, CEO status, government positions, etc…focus on that and expanding from there could probably get us better results was my only argument.

I live in Los Angeles, California, and for example, every Louisiana Fried Chicken establshment is owned and operated by Koreans…Now if you venture into KoreaTown (which is in the Mid-Wilshire area), most of the businesses are Korean owned – The lone exceptions are the 7-11′s and other Middle Eastern owned establishments. There’s not one black owned business anywhere, except a lone KFC on Olympic.

Considering your example of the hurricane aftermath, it certainly illustrates the disparities between the haves and the have nots. Yet, I also consider, 4 example, the Asian communites also caught in the disaster, and how they were far better off recovering than the black community is.
These r good questions, and I truly wish I had all the answers. I don’t think this is something that we can fix in a generation, as it took us a few 2 get where we’re at.

Crenshaw district is slowly becoming multi-ethnic, due to the depressed economy. I have a friend who resides in the gated community, The Gloria Homes Apts., and according to her, it’s now 20% white. To my knowledge, Roscoes is still black owned and ran. Btw, the Crenshaw District is being overran by Korean & Latino owned business establishments. In fact, a Latino owned Louisiana Fried Chicken stand was opened on MLK Blvd and Coloseum about a year ago.

It’s 90% Latino…And Baldwin Hills/Crenshaw District (formally refered to as the Jungle) is a good 35 to 40% Latino…It’s just a matter of time before blacks will have to migrate elsewhere due to the racial tensions between us and the Latinos. Dang! I remember when I was living there back in 98/99, I used to work at King-Drew Medical Center and couldn’t believe how Watts, South Central, and Compton had become less black. I wondered where all the black people went.

It’s 90% Latino…And Baldwin Hills/Crenshaw District (formally refered to as the Jungle) is a good 35 to 40% Latino…

Yike! Yeah, I remember when it was The Jungle and predominately black. I had friends that lived over there on La Brea and Rodeo Road and on Santa Rosalia Dr. (is that now called MLK Blvd?) That was my stomping ground back in the day!

It’s just a matter of time before blacks will have to migrate elsewhere due to the racial tensions between us and the Latinos. Their version of ethnic cleansing in So. Central, the Harbor Gate area, and Eagle Rock is downright scary…And I won’t mention what’s going on in Palmdale.

I think blacks are migrating down south. This really breaks my heart because L.A. used to be so culturally diverse. It’s almost as though we have fallen off the face of the earth

This is what we should’ve done! Not only in L.A., but every city, USA. I’m telling you, the same has happened her in my hometown. Black business were once bustling. Now when I drive by my old hood, I can’t do anything but SMH. The few blacks here have moved to the suburbs like they’ve done down there in L.A. I wish we knew how to come together like other races, support one another, and get our economic base up. Blacks tend to be major consumers, especially in hair care yet we don’t own any beauty supplie shops. That’s what happened here. The black beauty supply shops have closed only to have two large Korean shops open up. They are extremely rude, yet black people pour in there like no tomorrow making those Asians rich.

The way I see it there are excuses in 2009. The point Tilla brings up about third world countries is very valid. Look at the statistics of India and China- If you think you have it bad wit until these two ountries are fully up and running as SUPER powers like they are forcasted to be and are.

There are people who have gone through immense suffering and still are. People who have less rights, and less opportunities than most of the poorest in America and ever so often there are those make it that situation. What does that tell you about your conditions and state you are in.

I think more people need to start being individuals and really looking at themselves, their goals, their possibilities, their future, their past. I do not see how as a black woman I need to be labelled and lumped into boxes about who I can date, how I must talk, or how I must conduct myself based on a “black culture” that other blacks have built as a self fulfilling prophecy for the whole of the community.

This is a true story — I have a friend who lives in a condo community, and she used to have a neighbor (a brother) whose girlfriend was white (my friend saw him bring her home inebriated one evening and from then on, she frequently saw the two of them together).

Well, one Saturday, she was at home and on the phone when she heard a loud commotion outside in the outdoor area in the middle of the complex, in full view of her neighbors. The two of them apparently had an argument, and the woman was screaming for someone to call 911 because he was “stealing” her things. The yells were so loud that my friend’s mother could hear them on the other line.

Now my friend’s neighbors are very laidback, and I guess people knew it was a couple’s quarrel, but what struck both of us is that this woman — in the throes of emotion — knew that she could accuse this professional, successful black man of a crime and possibly have him arrested.

And, after all that, he continued to date her.

So, yes, indeed, a woman (or man, for that matter) may be involved in a relationship with a person of another race and still hold certain prejudices. Just because he/she is sleeping with you, doesn’t mean that he/she doesn’t see race and holds perceptions that are based upon racial differences.

In other words, Tila Tequila’s rant doesn’t surprise me at all — not one bit.
