Marquis, I have to agree. I think Nia Long is extremely beautiful and talented, and I wish her much success in her career and (love) life. HOWEVER, she was a foolish young girl to say something like that on a date.

I was watching the WW show yesterday and I was completely taken aback by Chris & Nia’s story.

That man wasn’t her friend, one of her homies she could be completely candid with; he was a date. First date at that!

So many of us forget how to be ladies and conduct ourselves properly. It makes me sad.

The sad irony is that their exchange so many years ago somewhat mirrors their present situations. He asked her a simple question, she hit him with a BS line, thinking it was cute, now years later they are sharing the couch on the WW show and he’s married with children and she’s…raising her son (I’m sure she’s doing a great job) and looking for love.

The moral of the story isn’t to be a lady at all times simply because you don’t know who/what the men you encounter will turn out to be; the moral is to be a lady at all times because your behavior is a reflection of your upbringing and mentality. No self-respecting man will take a woman seriously if she says something like that, just like no self-respecting woman would accept another date with a man who said something like that to her.

Even if you encounter someone you don’t like or wish to date, the brashness she displayed was completely unnecessary. Besides, this world is so small and ppl talk. You never know; that man may know someone you know, possible another dude you want to talk to. Hell, he may become someone like CR who may ultimately put you on blast on national television!
And really ladies, what if the tables were turned and he responded to her with a similar statement? She would’ve been offended and we would all be *****g out Chris, and rightly so.

If we would all raise kids to be ladies and gentlemen, we can reduce embarr*****ing moments like what was displayed on Wendy’s show yesterday.

The fact the you can use the term “*****es” so generally show your disrepect for black women. It’s seems there is no pleasing some black men. I loved your post.

I saw “Good Hair” yesterday (and loved it — there were parts that made me laugh out loud and segments that made me cringe and reflect), and a friend told me about this Wendy Williams interview. At first, I was appalled to hear that Chris Rock had given Nia a wrong number — Until I heard the reason for this brash move.

There’s an art to being a lady and a way to present yourself to a man, and I’m sorry, but this whole notion of “keeping it real” is only a hindrance to some of us truly mastering good and proper behavior. What Nia said to Chris was crude and reflected poorly on her — and he acted accordingly. He treated her the way she presented herself.

When I was younger, my mom enrolled me in charm cl*****es, and I didn’t fully appreciate why she made the decision until years later. She wanted me to know how to be a lady, and these are lessons I believe ALL young girls and women need. The words that exit your mouth, your behavior, your exterior appearance are all a reflection of who you are and determine how others will perceive and treat you.

Nia had a successful career in soaps before she went to LA. She has worked in prime time television and film. This was the invite to a date not the date so she was letting him know that she wasn’t a hook-up.
