Thank you excessive force for sharing the articles. This is very unfortunate and my prayers are w/ Kiwane's family and friends. So often we are quick to judge and offer an opinion before we get the whole story. I was born and raised in Champaign and I know this is nothing new for anyone in the community - regardless to what some said. At the end of the day this really has nothing to do with race but more of abuse of the badge. It happens all the time. Don't get me wrong there are some decent officers there, but they go overlooked. There were some very strong comments made on here and I will not comment on those because everyone is entitled to their opinion. But I ask all of you that have made a comment to not judge until all the facts are out. This young man - regardless of what anyone thought he was doing - did not deserve to lose his life. I pray that none of you have to experience any of this in your own family.

I'll be the first one to get on the Po's for their BS, but the way the story read, you can't tell whether the officer pulled his gun out and fired purposely or if it went off accidentally. The cops probably over reacted, and the boys should have just responded to what they asked, but the shooting may have been an accident. However, the family should request an additional autopsy to confirm one way or the other, because who knows if they will try to falsify results.

Young men, I know they harass you and make you angry, but PLEASE, just do what they tell you to do... get badge numbers and have them held accountable later.

I really have to stop reading the comments on here... the level of ignorance confounds and amazes me... The police mistreat these young black men because they know that they can.... and then you sit up here like trained monkeys and acquiesce. If you are lawfully in your residence then the police can not enter without a warrant unlees they can prove exigent circumstances... secondly you have the right to resist an unlawful arrest.. the law is supposed to be colorblind... but I guess as long as you keep shuffling and answering to massa we'll never achieve equality in this country.. you idiots blaming 2 unarmed children ... when we should expect BETTER from the police considering we pay their damn salaries

I'm here to help....

@Wreckless Driver

You are 1000% on the money. I want to also introduce my new theory on what I have studied, analyzed and now will be writing a dissertation on the on going struggles in the African American Community as it relates to all of these negative ills.

The cause is “Deprivation.”

When one is deprived, one’s access is restricted. This lack of access can manifest itself in the form of inadequate schools, housing, economic opportunity, the political process and ultimately the American Dream.

So then this deprivation causes one to begin to emmulate the access of information available; which causes a plethora of community and society ills: The misogyny, the self loathing, embracing mediocrity and ultimately becoming victim to society’s social heirarchy of relevance. These are all symptoms of the deprivation.

Because there are some of us who can overcome the deprivation, we must study the time line of success and recreate it for later application.

I’ve given a scant accounting of where Im trying to go. Would love to hear your opinion “Wreckless” on what you think.

***Keep in mind that sometimes deprivation can be internal as well as external. Be as critical as possible. Not looking for you to agree but to give your honest thought on this.
__________________________________________________
I agree with your synopsis somewhat. I also am a firm believer in the theory that "if one can diagnose an illness then one can cure it" we all can sit back and trace the origins of what it is that ails us as a people. We have many great minds who to this day continue to use it as consistent talking points. Where i am is at the stage of CURING the sickness which much like religion can be debated but in the end all leads to the same source. No matter how it is you've come to believe that we ended up in the fix that we find ourselves in,the important thing is solving the problems. We can all agree that we are suffering from a great affliction,what we need to do now is come up with an aggressive form a treatment before the ailment kills us. Those of us who acknowledge the sickness are at a far greater advantage than those of us who are in denial.

I am part owner of a Neighborhood bar and i run a personal security company that staffs bars and night clubs with security people. I spent 8 years in the Marine Corps and did 4 years of college when i got out. You have to set a goal for yourself and be single minded about achieving it. It takes hard work and SACRIFICE! You have to be able to go without certain things in order to achieve your goal. that is the part most folks don't seem to get or be willing to do. If it means giving up going and out and partying for 6 months to a year in order to save some money,then DO IT! SACRIFICE is the first step in achieving your goals. Learn to do without that which will only give you short term pleasure in order to attain your long term goals. That is the best advice i can give to you or any other young person out here who is trying to make it. Good luck to you in whatever field you choose to pursue.
