in all fairness to beyonce, none of these artists nowadays write their own songs. it’s not like in Janet and mariah’s day when it was practically a requirement for artists to write their own material. the industry’s main agenda these days is fast money. they’re only concerned with selling as many albums as they can as quick as they can. they don’t develop actual artists anymore, or give them time to grow into artists themselves. the industry is too busy spreading them all over the place with endorsements just to make money. quality music is no longer a priority to the music industry.

That’s why Lionel Ritchie and Kandi Burress isn’t on your section called “When the Checks Stop Coming In”. The only way you’re going to make any money through singing is touring. According to one artist, Her people STRONG ARM them into selling their rights to the songs they wrote. I remember reading about One girl who was a singer/songwrite and wrote a song for herself. Beyonce wanted it, so they in so many words threatened her and told her her singing career was over if she didn’t give up the song.

Whoever sent you the info Bossip is telling the truth. I’ve been working in Radio and the music industry for the past 10 years and Beyonce and her father Matthew are truly hated by many producers and songwriters because of their dishonesty. This is how it works: in order to get Beyonce to buy your song you have to give her minimum 50% of the writing and producing credits, even though she doesn’t contribute *****. If you give her 100% credit she’ll pay more, but it’s not nearly enough to compensate for what the songwriter would honestly make through royalties over the years.

I think Beyonce is a great entertainer that’s all. She is not a real artist, so I’m not surprised she doesn’t write her songs. We have heard about this time and time again. Think about it, if she was such a good song writer and wrote the songs she claimed, why haven’t any other singers asked her to write something for them. Real song writers (Neyo, Alicia Keys, The Dream, Lady Gaga, Kandi Burress,etc) have written songs for other artists as well as themselves. They are asked by other artist to write for them. Okay, I stand corrected. But I don’t take Keri’s word for anything. She claims to write for all these people but she’s part of a group of writers called The Clutch (found on another site) and she’s never shared credit either. She will list a bunch of names, but she may have only wrote one line.

In the end, it’s the nature of the beasts. As I said, many of these song writers share credits. And in most of the these situations, the artists demands full credit. What she is did is nothing new. Now taking credit, not a good look, but nothing new.

If I can make more money by buying these songs from someone then that’s what I’d do. We all know the money is in the publishing deals. And Beyonce doesn’t have the longevity of a Tina Turner to tour until she’s 70 so like Mariah getting publishing credit is a great way to go. everyone knows the money is and always be in songwriting, arrangement, production and touring. so even if you throw in one line in a song you get paid for it,if you are listed. the question is: is it worth some cash now to have your name erased or continuously get paid for years to come? i will take the latter. take the song resentment on the b’day album. beyonce did not write that song, in fact its a cover that was originally sung by posh spice (yea i know) but because beyonce changed a few things when she re-recorded the song…*poof* instant song writing credit. its up to the songwriters to take control of what happens to their songs and the recognition that can receive financially. if they are still handing a song over and giving up ownership of their creation, that is their fault. although i think its wrong that this is practiced, there is nothing we can really do except not purchase the artist’s music but how many people will really stop doing so? and if the time comes when karma bites her, then it will. but its true that beyonce most likely will never reach icon status.

I couldn’t disagree more. Beyonce is doing it. She is keeping her sound fresh whether she’s writing it all or not. Off this last album she went from hip hop (Ego and Diva) to pop rock (If I were a boy) to dance tracks (Single Ladies and Sweet Dreams). No one else is giving that much variety on one album. Not to mention her live shows are always, and I mean always, on point. I’m not saying she is on MJ’s level, but she is the closest thing out right now.

Angel and You Outta Know she performed at her concerts and it was going to be featured on the re-release or DVD and she filed the paper for use of the song and claimed writing credit. Did you read the above article that states all she has to do is work with the arrangement and she gets credit?

Lets not forget that BC Jean was ripped off by Beyonce and the producer. BC Jean’s song was on her MY*****e page for about 8 months to a year before Beyonce recorded it. BC Jean fans are upset because her song was stolen…. A friend of hers called and told her it was on the radio and Beyonce was singing it. Yes, I read it very carefully. What you’ve described is not the same thing as STATING she wrote the songs. Many people do covers, esp. during live shows. Yes, there has been controversy over some tracks, but the only public statement was regarding Irreplacable. We (the consumers/audience) are not privied to all the behind the scenes credit deals. We do not know what part every artist contributes to get a credit. Nor should we. If the people involved in the writing are cool with it, then that is their issue. IMO, vocal arrangements are just as important if not moreso, than the lyrics. Melodies are what makes a song a hit. Even if people don’t know the words, they can humm their fave songs. It is not for us to say that shouldn’t count.

At the end of the day she has proven songwriting abilites from DC and her first two albums. There have been debates from the sasha fierce album, but all in all, she is talented and running the game.

ummmm, this is pretty standard industry practice….and for some writers getting either a credit or a paycheck from a guaranteed platinum artist is worth it…after all you make no money when you can’t place a song….i have a songwriter friend and I’m sure he’d gladly share credit on a beyonce song…especially a single! wonder how much ne-yo made off irreplacable…he wouldn’t have made as much had he sang the song so it is fair in a sense…

The words to the songs were waaay too deep. Someone who is more articulate and good in writing have written those songs. Someone like Beyonce can never write a song from A to Z.

She’s a brand now, so the machines she has in place are responsible for her “artistry” more than she is. Also, being the businesswoman she is, she wants ownership of the ideas instead of originating them because that’s where the loot is. Not suprising, but it really hurts it for other artists who have the time and not as hectic of a schedule to develop their own brand by their own merits..

It’s a two sided coin, so I can’t knock her for grinding until she can hire the best instead of always having to be the best. She can just use the corporations that partner w/ her to collect the loot and keep it in the fam.

If anything her songs are more for black women. e.g. Single Ladies is an ode to ending this “baby mama” or “top girl” mentality that is present in BLACK communities. Check the stats. Black women are far more likely to never marry.

Why do people keep saying “If I were a Boy” was stolen? I have the I Am album, and Beyonce is NO WHERE listed as a writer of the song. B.C. Jean and Toby Gad are the only ones listed.
“Kissing You” was not stolen either. The terms of the contract were violated when Beyonce changed the name of the song, which she wasn’t supposed to do.
“Irreplaceable” – Even Neyo said she said it was a co-write. She may not have wrote all of the lyrics, but she did put her input in. He even said as much. His words not mine. He only addressed the situation after people were making a big deal about it.

If the songwriters aren’t suing her, if they signed their songwriting credits over to Beyonce, if they are still employed by Ms. Beyonce and other artists…WHO CARES?! Plus, if she changes one word in that song (which I believes is what she does in most cases), she is a co-writer… it is what it is.

i want to know who actually think beyonce has sold 80,000,000 albums. that is not true. the proof is on billboard. you see, platinum in uk equals 600,000; australia, equals only 70,000 and other places like canada equals 80,000. their platinums are not the same as in the united states.
beyonces has sold only 25,100,000 albums world wide. now, if you include destiny’s child, it’s close to 75,100,000. Most of her success was because of other people, not her own, but solo? she never sold as many albums as with her group.

Beyonce can perform but if it’s anything I hate, I hate a person who is an intellectual and creative thief and thats why I don’t support her music. It’s not a problem is Bey doesn’t write songs. There are a lot of artists that don’t write their own songs. The problem is she’s getting writing credit for songs she didn’t write or she’s overstating her invovlement in the writing of the songs. I’m not stating that on what’s posted by Bossip but what has happen in the past with Neyo and a couple other writers who had to give her part credit just to get known. Being a good performer doesn’t negate that she’s takes advantage of other peoples intellectual property.

If you can’t see that as a problem then you don’t give a damn about music in general.

By reading most of the comments. It true what they say about black folks, “they support ignorance” “All they do is dance, or ***** shaking” and “dont have a *****ing clue about anything”. Why is it that us as black people continue to make ourselves look and sound stupid? Just because someone is making millions of dollars does not make them a good artist. Money is not everything. All everyone keep saying is “Oh she’s a good entertainer” or ” She so beautiful” Who f*cking cares. This woman has no brains at all, and is a thief. People espceially black folks dont care because she does what most black women are known for.. shaking that azz and has looks. Oh lord what is this world coming to?

Maybe you folks need to put yourself in the shoes of these people she stole songs from. Just imagine writing a song, someone else takes it and you hear your ***** on the radio.
