Okay, since people want to post long posts, I will do it too. First of all, part of the problem with topics like these is that people think lyric writing all that there is to songwriting. When it isn't. In fact, songs can be composed without lyrics because the music has to be written. I am talking about the notes. Now people are going to dismiss this as a Beyonce "stan" defending her but truthfully because I am a fan, I study what she brings to table and is why I am appreciative of her in the music industry. Anyways, Bey's thing is arrangements. Vocal arrangement, melody arrangements and hooks. Things like that. She's not a big lyric writer. Her true fans knows this. In fact, she spoke on this: ‘I don’t play any instrument,’ she says. ‘I have writers that I write with, or I have writers that will send me a full song, and I’ll rearrange it – change the second verse, change the melody, keep a chord that I like, and recreate it. Just depends. I might bring in whoever I think can help the song. When I have just a beat it’s the most fun for me. I’ll get somebody to play whatever I hum for the bassline. So I’m creating a whole track with my voice.’

So as you can see, her thing is arrangments and arrangements are part of songwriting credits like it or not. Not to mention, she admits to getting full songs giving to her. Also, Neyo himself explained the whole Irreplacable "episode" a long time ago: The real story behind that is… it is what it is. I think what happened was she was in Japan or something and right before she sang the song she said, “I wrote this for my ladies.” My whole thing is this, I didn’t write, “let me love you” by myself, I wrote that with this cat by the name of [couldn’t pick up the name]. He is one of Scott Scorch’s writers. So when people ask, “Did you write Let me Love you” I say yeah, because I did write the song, I just didn’t write it by myself, but I did write the song. Same thing with Beyonce, she didn’t write the song by herself. I wrote the lyrics, she put together a lot of the melodies and harmonies and what not, which is what makes it a co-write. Now she’s at a show, the spot light is on her, I’m not expecting her to turn around and put the spotlight on me in her show. There have been incidents with her crediting me with writing the song with her before, but she just didn’t do it that one time and people really blew it all out of proportion. I know that she didn’t mean nothing negative by that. I know that is wasn’t on some “let me just let the world know that I wrote this song and he ain’t had nothing to do with it.” I know it wasn’t nothing like that, because I know Beyonce and she ain’t that type of person. Real Talk. So I just think that the world kind of blew it out of proportion. I want to thank everybody for riding with me on some “yo Ne-yo wrote that song.” But it wasn’t that serious.

And then with Crazy in Love, Rich Harrison said that he wrote the bulk of the song but she did the bridge: Unpleasant reminders of the night before notwithstanding, Harrison stepped up and wrote the verses and the hook, leaving the bridge for Beyoncé. He wound up playing all the instruments on the track, too.

http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1484784/02032004/knowles_beyonce.jhtml

And the Bridge has Beaucoup harmonies on it. That's "The Beyonce sound". Anyone who actually listens to her music and is a fan of it, knows that. That's what makes her music, her music. That's why I had that quote from the New Yorker about her doing remarkable things with tone and harmonies because that's her "lane", what makes her music, her music. She has a great ear for that, and no matter who she works with, that's a big part of her sound.

This is why I don't understand this controversy of her songwriting. No one else gets this kind of scrunity. Artists who are writers with songwriting teams and they never get scruntized the way Bey does. I don't get it. Yeah, she also buys music too and does things with the arrangements to fit her voice. Nothing with that. It's done all the time in the industry. If this is a way to find reason not to like her, her music or whatever. Fine, but the double standards on Beyonce, makes me sick.

Actually, Kandi Burruss from Escape (& the ATL Housewives) was not only the first black woman, but THE FIRST WOMAN period to win the ASCAP award...Sorry to break it to you, Beyonce lovers! All will come out soon, as it is now. It's up to you to believe or not to believe, to buy and support or not support Beyonce. The rule of the insustry is to always remain in the spotlight. Media coverage is great whether positive or negative...this is the perfect example. Now when a week or two go by and you dont hear about her, then she should be worried. SADLY, I dont think that will happen anytime soon. When that day comes, that will be my "Bey-Day"..lol!
