Percy Miller; he has completely out grown Master P.
Just work on self sustainability in these communities.
After the homes I would start with vegetable gardens; charter schools; and a renewable energy resource be it solar, wind, or water.
And for god sake please organize the criminal element.

First of all @ *****ofjane, did you not read the post, they are not rebuliding the actual housing projects, they are rebuliding affordable housing, which means the former residents will have a future! and hats off to him for having the heart and wisdom to do this! he is putting his money where his mouth and heart is!

I think that What Master P is doing i”s all good” as long as he deviates like ideas of yesteryears in building crime infested high-rise apts. where families are stacked on top of each other and forced to live in a crime infested environment. The new idea now is to tear down such dwellings integrate people of different income levels or build low-income dwellings that are side-by-side such as townhomes. No reason that innocent families should feel trapped in these crime-invested section 8 type buildings. Having simple town homes are the way to go! It allows for individuality. Families feel more in control and not stacked on top of each other or running into criminals or danger in elevators or stairways. Moreover, children can come home from school and into the safety of their own homes and criminal activities or such households can be easily identified and eliminated, sparing those who have hope for a better future with their families. Master P will not be helping the community if he resorts to investing in some low income high-rise building that is often riddle with crime and criminal. Most states are beginning to tear down these types of dwellings. Get a clue Master P. You do not want your legacy attached to such.

All the Saints showin’ out now! WHO DAT! Go head P, I’m proud of him for trying to bring back the Black folks to N.O. The city is not the same without us. They got Chinese people runnin’ Cafe du Monde in Jackson Square now, the place looks like a low rent Chinese buffet now, and the chicory coffee tastes terrible! Next they need to bring back the Cajuns that used to run that place!

10/18/09, 14:41:pm
congrats to P! but please make sure they have some type of programs where the residents can constantly be in pursuit of bettering themselves, like education with a certificate or a trade so they won’t get trapped into the “project” mentality. let it be a revolving door – stay for a short period of time and transition to a small house or condo that is totally on their own that they can afford.

Come on Black People.
I know we all wanna get excited about a savior, but if he was being innovative, he wouldn’t create yet ANOTHER HOUSING PROJECT.
Do your research on HUD.
This is just some ole black devil snake ***** on repeat loop.
Let’s get it together!

It seems like many of the posters on this board have many innovative ideas.
I pray they find the power to become proactive in implementing their good ideas for the larger society.
Let me give you all a major clue about tricknology:
If the HOUSING PROJECT was gonna do all the wonderful stuff you guys wish and hope (insert “celebrity”) is gonna do… Then that outcome would be the headline.
Now what was the headline, again?

I was about to say good for Percy and the community…
Then I saw this comment, ” but if he was being innovative, he wouldn’t create yet ANOTHER HOUSING PROJECT”, and I would have to agree….
However, unfortunately, have nots can’t be choosy and if they want, need more out of life, perhaps they, themselves should upgrade out of the housing projects, they work hard and get up out of there…
Noone says that blks (or whatever background for that matter) have to live in the ghettos. Just cause you start out there, doesn’t mean that you have to stay there…That’s where good ole self-reliance, self-determination, goal-setting and working extra hard come in…But hey, I guess that’s only if you don’t like your surroundings, you go harder, to do better, to get farther…
just sayin though, at least someone besides Brad Pitt is helping rebuild…I don’t see the residents themselves doing too much… But , I wish the best for Louisiana….And I also hope they don;t rebuild all those wards..
Melinda

Uh…*ahem*, why would he want to rebuild the projects? Especially the **insert any housing name here** houses in New Orleans? Are black people the only people in this nation who spend generations and generations in the projects? Immigrants who come here repeat the same cycle: Live in squalor and projects, the next generation does better and gets out. Why do we continue to inhabit projects and ‘houses’?
Black people, we got to do better…

10/18/09, 20:10:pm
And to all ya’ll praising percy, think about the bigger picture, percy is helping to rebuild the projects, but I guarantee you HUD has promised him partial ownership of that land and anything built on it, that means percy will collect a percentage of government fully subsidized rent.
And just how long do you think it’ll take for babymommas and their *****s to move in, what about the gangs, single parents with criminal ***** teens and the drug dealers? I give it about 8 days before the first murder.
***** take those multi-millions the ignorant gave you in the 90’s and build homes not projects!
Your ***** left new orleans because you knew how *****ed up it was “Mr Beverly Hills”

I live in New Orleans and I also own my home. Natural Disasters can happen any where and ***** happens. I guess the people who homes flooded in ATL, should move and not return. I guess the entire state of California should move out, of Florida for that matter. I love my city, everyone here does not live in poverty. Like most American cites there is a percentage of poverty but there’s much more to the city. This city is a very unique culture, along with a history of it’s people prevailing.
what-da?

Actually you are dead wrong!!! The economics of housing favor high rise projects. The movement of tearing down projects for “townhomes” means that INEVITABLY that the number of housing units will be reduced and the density which would make the housing more affordable will also be reduced. That means that ONLY through public housing programs like section 8 could the poor POSSIBLY live in the inner city. Then you get elected officials running on no new taxes and guess which program gets cut first. So blacks are forced out of San Francisco.. Chicago.. New York.. New Orleans and as much as people want to talk about nicer low rise housing… there is no economic way to keep impoverished or lower income blacks in the city while a hostile government fails to subsidize them.
If Master P is helping to preserve project housing in New Orleans.. he is doing the right thing. Let’s see low rise housing built on new sites to ADD to the housing stock, but keep high rise public housing and reform it. Don’t make it so that ONLY poor people live there. Also reconnect the projects to the city streetscape. Don’t keep them as isolated parks. Restore the street and movement of traffic through these projects so people can reach the streets again and get back into the life of their city. Project housing housed the white working cl***** in the 30s 40s and 50s and gave them the first leg up on their home ownership by giving them densely populated low cost housing. It can do the same for blacks but first we’ve got to re-establish our poor blacks as a workforce and then you’ll see that high rise housing is a real benefit and not a blight!

Wow, another set of PJs for the hopeless to go and hustle and shoot each other. Not knocking the effort, just the idea. This is no theory, on whats going to happen, it will happen. First they are for unwed mothers, then “Raheem” gets out the pen, and needs a place to stay. Then he needs some money, so he sells a lil crack out front. Then somebody shoots at Raheem, for encroaching on turf. Lets do better. We cant let the bums make this a return to the days of old, or they’ll wash your *****es out again. Always keep in mind, they could build those walls so high, that it would block out the sun in the lower 9th. That is if they wanted to ensure this NEVER “happened” again. They didnt. They are basically the same height as b4. Why? Thats up for speculation. But if P’s projects are anything like the days of old, that 100 yr storm, may appear again, in 2011
