Wow, another set of PJs for the hopeless to go and hustle and shoot each other. Not knocking the effort, just the idea. This is no theory, on whats going to happen, it will happen. First they are for unwed mothers, then "Raheem" gets out the pen, and needs a place to stay. Then he needs some money, so he sells a lil crack out front. Then somebody shoots at Raheem, for encroaching on turf. Lets do better. We cant let the bums make this a return to the days of old, or they'll wash your asses out again. Always keep in mind, they could build those walls so high, that it would block out the sun in the lower 9th. That is if they wanted to ensure this NEVER "happened" again. They didnt. They are basically the same height as b4. Why? Thats up for speculation. But if P's projects are anything like the days of old, that 100 yr storm, may appear again, in 2011

"No reason that innocent families should feel trapped in these crime-invested section 8 type buildings. Having simple town homes are the way to go! It allows for individuality. Families feel more in control and not stacked on top of each other or running into criminals or danger in elevators or stairways. Moreover, children can come home from school and into the safety of their own homes and criminal activities or such households can be easily identified and eliminated, sparing those who have hope for a better future with their families. Master P will not be helping the community if he resorts to investing in some low income high-rise building that is often riddle with crime and criminal. Most states are beginning to tear down these types of dwellings. Get a clue Master P. You do not want your legacy attached to such."

Actually you are dead wrong!!! The economics of housing favor high rise projects. The movement of tearing down projects for "townhomes" means that INEVITABLY that the number of housing units will be reduced and the density which would make the housing more affordable will also be reduced. That means that ONLY through public housing programs like section 8 could the poor POSSIBLY live in the inner city. Then you get elected officials running on no new taxes and guess which program gets cut first. So blacks are forced out of San Francisco.. Chicago.. New York.. New Orleans and as much as people want to talk about nicer low rise housing... there is no economic way to keep impoverished or lower income blacks in the city while a hostile government fails to subsidize them.

If Master P is helping to preserve project housing in New Orleans.. he is doing the right thing. Let's see low rise housing built on new sites to ADD to the housing stock, but keep high rise public housing and reform it. Don't make it so that ONLY poor people live there. Also reconnect the projects to the city streetscape. Don't keep them as isolated parks. Restore the street and movement of traffic through these projects so people can reach the streets again and get back into the life of their city. Project housing housed the white working class in the 30s 40s and 50s and gave them the first leg up on their home ownership by giving them densely populated low cost housing. It can do the same for blacks but first we've got to re-establish our poor blacks as a workforce and then you'll see that high rise housing is a real benefit and not a blight!
