I’m sorry, but there is a clear difference between “discipline” and “destruction.” My dad’s weapons of choice were his hand (effective) and belt (even more effective), along with just the sound of his voice raised in anger (still makes me straighten up).

The details of this story sound dubious – why does a 17-year-old have her own apartment, and how is she paying for it? Why did she move out of the home to begin with? I believe someone also mentioned the possibility of sexual abuse, which led to the young girl living separately from her mother. That’s all to say, that this Shonuff-imitator may not be all he’s cracked up to be. There are certainly better ways to handle situations than to erupt into a “Kill Bill” rage.

As angry as I’ve made my father on occasion in the past, he never tried to decapitate me. There’s a line that can be crossed. There appears to be a lot more to this story. This man also appears to be smirking in his mug shot (I think that’s the photo I saw) – He has that “I’m not quite all here” look in his eyes. And where in tarnation did he get a Samurai sword??

Fathers are the key to gaining back control in our households, but let’s not confuse criminal activity with appropriate and necessary discipline.

If we question the absence of the black father as contributing 2 the breakdown of the community, we must also place crappy mothers and rampant promiscuity on the firing line as well. Disclaimer: I came at this issue yesterday, with some empathy for the stepfather… and I gave his intentions the benefit of the doubt – even though I still think shooting the kid 4 times was excessive.
