Russell has a right to joint custody. It would be selfish to try to keep him from his kids. If Kimora and Russell love their kids and rear them correctly, they will be responsible adults and love both parents equally. As far as their relationships with anyone else, they should both have since enough not to stay with someone who would not treat their kids kind and with respect. I would never say that Kimora don’t love her girls, but I do feel that she has used her show to try to appear that she is the best mom in the USA. After viewing her show, these girls need Russell Simmons so that they can have some stability in their life. Life in the FAB Lane is like a three ring circus.

We never know what happens behind close doors. Kimora may not be doing this out of spite. She may have some real legitimate reasons for asking for sole custody. And for those who think it’s b/c Russell got another woman are wrong. Kimora asked for sole custody when she filed for divorce, and that was before Russell got with that new chick. Putting those girls in the best situation to thrive is what’s really important.

They are not her kids. They are their kids, and divorce doesn’t negate that. You’re acting as if he hit it and quit it. They were married for a good while by Hollywood marriage standards…And how do you know that it’s all Russell’s fault. Kimora isn’t exactly known to be the most pleasant or even-tempered women in Hollywood.

Total agreement, unless he has reason to believe they aren’t safe with mom, she should have full custody. It’s easier on the kids if they have a fulltime home, and “feel” at home when they visit the non-custodial parent. They both seem to be good parents, no reason to split their time between two households.

Kimora’s old school and she’s right. She has been the primary parent and caregiver of their children during the marriage and afer so why change now? This is clearly a situation where Russell gets visitation. They have had two reality shows showing her devotion to her pregnancies and in raising her children. I don’t care about either of the two personally, but to divide up children between 2 or more households will only leave the children in distress and lacking in emotional stability. So HO go sit down! You don’t have to believe me. Get hooked on phonics and do some helpful research. You might just learn something in the process.

So are you implying that just because men can’t give birth, they are incapable of creating a nurturing environment for HIS chldren? In your eyes it’s not about the children, it’s about you over-empathizing with Kimora’s whole scorned ex routine. I think there is some confusion over what sole vs. joint custody means. The father (unless he is some type of deranged unfit lunatic) is granted visitation in each instance. The father has a child support order in each instance. The only way a father does NOT have a child support order is if A. He signs over his parental rights (which is not in question here – yet) or B. They have a joint custody order that gives them 50/50 custody. Not all joint custody arrangements do this.

In most joint custody arrangements, the father has “reasonable” visitation, pays support, and the children have one primary home (generally with Mom). This is the arrangement the majority of divorced people have.

The biggest difference between joint and sole custody is that in a joint agreement, both parents are able to decide major matters concerning the welfare of the children (education, religion, medical, etc….) and in a sole custody agreement whichever party has sole custody calls the shots ALONE. They are not required to solicit ANY input from the other parent and can basically do what they damned well please with the children.

THAT is what she is trying to accomplish and I see no reason for it. It is usually reserved for absentee fathers or those deemed to be unfit (For example K-Fed has sole custody of his kids with Brit because she was seen to be crazy as hell).

I have not seen any evidence of his trying to “criticize and dis” what he set up. He has never spoken of her in other than a favorable manner ESPECIALLY when it came to those children. In requesting sole custody, she is criticizing and dissing HIM.

Of COURSE she has been the children’s primary caregiver while Russell was working. That is not unusual. He would not have all of that fortune staying home playing with the kids all day. That does not make him less of a father – he fully embraces his role as a PROVIDER which is a father’s responsibility AND not only has she enjoyed it and benefited tremendously from it – she has made a name BRAGGING about her over-the-top lavish lifestyle that was provided by HIM because he does work so hard.

He does not need a reason for joint custody nor should it be construed as “ego”. It is his right as a parent to have it. She needs a reason to deny him this right and it will be interesting to see how she goes about accomplishing it. Maybe we will learn some things about him we didn’t know. Hmmmm….

After all, if I remember correctly, SHE was the one popped for the drug charge a few years ago….

My family and Kimora’s know each other. Kimora was not a top model. She got by modeling in Europe. It paid the bills and gave her exposure to the world but Kimora is part Asian and like most of them they can be good with money. Her Asian mommy taught her that.

Kimora was smart enough to get Russ Russ to marry her and not lay up with them and just pump out babies. She was smart enough to use her beauty and access to Russ Russ’ capital to forge ahead with the Baby Phat line. The girl has brains you can’t fault her for that. Models don’t really get paid unless they are supermodels signed to a good contract. They make good money for their ages but not TOP DOLLAR.
