African pirates, off of their east coast shores, are back riding:

Pirates seized control of a cargo vessel…… near the Seychelles Thursday; one of two attacks that took place within minutes of each other off the coast of east Africa, according to the European Union Naval Force. The EU maritime patrol responded to the early morning attack, along with the Seychelles Coast Guard. The crew of the Panama-flagged MV Al Khaliq said two pirates were on board before communication was cut off.

The EU force confirmed that six pirates have boarded the 180-meter long bulk carrier, with two attack skiffs in tow. They hoisted the “mother skiff” onto the vessel with a crane, the EU force said. A second attempted hijacking took place at approximately the same time, but the Italian-flagged cargo ship evaded the attack, the EU said. Armed with automatic weapons and rocket-propelled grenades, pirates opened fire on the MV Jolly Rosso about 460 miles (740 km) east of Mombasa, Kenya. A Belgium warship, part of the EU force, responded to the attack, which caused no casualties. The 200-meter vessel continued its voyage.

The African pirates have not stopped ganking just because the reports have died down. SMH

  • Rrrrroe Ski Love- A mind is a terrible thing to waste.

    @ MOLIANS- Obviously you didn’t see the cnn report which showed them buying bling and drugs and booze and partying like rock stars. They have highjacked damn near a billion dollars in goods and have recieved ransoms of over a million dollars. So they are not feeding the hungry and attempting to eradicate aids. There just common crooks.

    @ Rrrrroe Ski Love- A mind is a terrible thing to waste.

    very good point! ALSO theyre using that money to fund their own insurgent groups in that 11 year civil war in somalia

  • not so interesting..

    Ok i’m a sea-man so i can say one thing on this topic. If some pirate wants to attack my ship he needs to be in a ship of his own. Any boat that the pirates were on that is small enough to be hoisted onto a ship is also small enough to be run over by a ship… They would be dead. i would run them over!

    Good for them…

    Maybe if the tankers, know that they are not in friendly waters, they should find an alternate route…

    No, they keep doing the same thing, so why the surprise, when the Somalian’s do the same thing??

    They (Somalians) aren’t going anywhere…They are starving and the few that do step up, people want to kill… I dk why all bkl nations are starving, yet have nations full of natural resources. And as long, as they cooperate with United States or England, it’s all good. The minute that they try to stand for themselves, we want to shoot them…

    I dk…With these types of policies and aggression, we are really asking for it…There’s got to be a nonviolent way to resolve this…

    MOGADISHU, Somalia (AP) – Mortars fired by Islamic militants slammed into Somalia’s airport as the president was boarding a plane Thursday, sparking battles that killed at least 24 people when return fire hit residential areas and a market, officials said.

    A militant leader vowed to avenge the civilian deaths and threatened retaliatory attacks in two African countries that supply troops to the African Union peacekeeping mission stationed in Mogadishu.

    The president was unhurt and his plane took off safely, police said, but the deaths of civilians is fueling a growing anger toward African Union peacekeeping forces that are stationed in Mogadishu to help protect the U.N.-backed government.

    Somalia’s capital sees near-daily bloodshed as a powerful insurgent group with links to al-Qaida tries to overthrow the fragile government and push out some 5,000 AU peacekeepers. Both sides have been accused of indiscriminate shelling.

    At least 20 bodies, most of them civilians, lay in the streets after Thursday’s fighting, said Ali Muse, the head of Mogadishu’s ambulance service. Four people later died at the hospital. Muse said about 60 people were wounded as mortar rounds slammed into residential areas.

    “Soldiers from Uganda and Burundi soldiers are our enemy. They often massacre our people. We will not let them go unpunished, but will target them in Kampala and Bujumbura,” the capitals of the two countries, said Sheikh Ali Mohamed Hussein, a leader of al-Shabab, the militant group linked to al-Qaida that controls much of southern Somalia.

    The shelling started soon after insurgents fired toward President Sheik Sharif Sheik Ahmed’s plane, said police spokesman Abdullahi Hassan Barise.

    Thursday’s violence- deadlier than many recent clashes in this once-beautiful seaside city- follow a pattern that witnesses say is becoming all too common. First, insurgents fire at government or AU targets. Then those forces respond by shelling insurgent bases, most of which lie in residential areas.

    The result is that most of those killed in Somalia’s war are civilians.

    The same situation exists in Afghanistan, where U.S. and NATO forces

    The Ethiopian government has asked the international community for emergency food aid for 6.2 million people.

    The request came at a meeting of donors to discuss the impact of a prolonged drought affecting parts of East Africa.

    The UN’s World Food Programme says $285m (£173m) will be needed in the next six months. Some aid officials say the numbers of hungry could rise.

    Aid agency Oxfam has called for a new approach to tackling the risk of disaster in the country.

    In a report marking 25 years since the famine that killed around one million Ethiopians, Oxfam said that imported food aid saves lives in the short term but did little to help communities withstand the next shock.

    The report, named Band Aids and Beyond, called on international donors to adopt a new approach focused on preparing communities to prevent and deal with disasters before they strike.

    Since you KNOW so much,is that why they fed the hostages, and demand a ransom? They then release the cargo and let the people go?

    Let the white world media tell the truth about Somalian piracy. These European countries have been dumping waste into the Somali waters for years to the point there is no more fishing.

    —————————-

    Somalia’s coastline was very rich and able to support varieties or aquatic organisms. However due to non-policing of Somali waters, many foreign vessels indiscriminately pollute by dumping hazardous waste in her waters. The number of incidents, which were identified as perpetrators include an Italian firm (Progresso) and Swiss firm (Achair Partners) even though there may be many other numerous unidentified cases. These cases were justified by United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) as if the firms have supposedly entered into contracts with Somali government to dump in Somali waters. This is ethically questionable whether an indigene should negotiate a hazardous waste disposal contract within his country even in the midst of instability. This can be classified, as a misleading justification to divert the attention of the less publicized exploitation of the Somali crisis by the firms, which specialize in the disposal of hazardous waste. As a result of the UNEP’s investigation, about the issue it became apparent to the UNEP’s director Dr. Mustafa Tolba declared that the firms of Achair Partners and Progresso were set up specifically as fictitious companies by larger industrial firms to dispose of hazardous waste. And at that point Dr. Tolba referred that the UNEP was dealing with a mafia. Since there is no unified effective internationally recognized government, suing such matters are not intact. The companies are extremely well off to hide the truth at any cost. These are violations of international treaties in the export of hazardous waste to another country in particular like Somalia.

    Every month proportionately a number of indigenous people die or suffer from the effects of such dumping around coastal communities. For instance, at Eel-dher district of Gal-gadud region, in the center of Somalia in April 1992 put out dark blue long barrels in which oily-liquid was filled. When samples taken from them were investigated, it was identified that such were deadly nuclear waste. Similar incidents happened at Adale district in 1996. In 1998, mass mix fish species were washed away along the coastline from Mogadishu to Warsheekh which are 45 km apart and all these are consequences of the hazardous waste imports into Somali waters. All over the world, countries policies deal with these events however it is unfortunate that Somalia with the longest coastline over all Africa does not have a basic strategy to deal with these matters.

    Thanks for the breakdown, on why the Somali’s are in this predicament to begin with…

    I still say too bad blks aren’t concerned over this, but ALL dark/colored nations/countries, are mistreated, just like this one has been. The people are most always affected and everyone pretend’s they don’t get it… :(

  • BLACK-A-RIFICK

    AFRICA IS NOT THE MOTHER LAND

  • http://www.soapdish.socialgo.com saytoodles

    @BLACK-A-RIFICK
    she may not be your mother land but please don’t disrespect Mother Africa. She made it possible for the world to deal in gold, diamonds…heck…all Commodities AND in the very food that some of her people’s stomachs yearn for. But not brother/sister…she has the new generation, us. and we are going to Rise her up to her former glory. Familiar with the saying “Ex Africa semper aliquid novi!” (Something new always comes out of Africa!), that was the Spanish when they first encountered the mother land.

    @Nimalo,
    Zim angers me more than anything, and to think that this is a tragedy that can be solved by our leaders taking a tougher stand? do you know that Grace and husband have a deal with Nestle to supply milk with one of the ‘re-distributed’ farms has a mansion in Zim AND Asia? when will our leaders stop taking western money in exchange for their people’s suffering? That is why I don’t believe in aid. I think that the only people who can help Africa are Africans.

    @lala
    the raping will continue until we own our resources. In SA there are legislations that require South Africans to benefit from their land and commodity. I think that should be implemented and make ALL of Africa free trade zones, of course the west won’t let us have our resources peacefully that is why they are using the ‘aid’ as a blind fold over our eyes. Let’s wake up and take our land back into our hands and see how we will flourish afterwards.

    You know the problem with charity hospitals, schools and food banks is that it makes our people more despondent. we have doctors, teachers and nurses that come into an African country to ‘help’. don’t get me wrong they have the right intentions but it gives the wrong result because the following happens:
    1. the locals become maids and gardeners to them – which is another form of colonisation
    2. what are the children learning to become? the doctors, nurses. teachers and so forth are already being shipped in from other countries so they don’t have hope to be in better paying jobs (increases poverty)
    3. the ‘white’ people feed me every month, why should I go look for a job?
    4. entrepreneurs aren’t being cultivated
    5. government gets lazy cause their work is being done by these charity groups
    6.this is the most important. The charities decide on the curriculum, so what o they teach the kids? western history and philosophy, which by the way villainies some of our leaders. if a child is to make a difference in Africa, they need to be taught African history and governance so they can be history makers in their land.

    another thing that infuriates me is when celebrities hold their help Africa functions. why are we allowing others tell us what our issues are? we know them better than anyone, how are you going to go to someone’s house and tell them how to fix things?
    Oprah started a school in South Africa, great gesture…wrong country. Schools are dime a dozen in SA. other countries like Sudan, Botswana and Zim would have been great. but because people what to leave legacies they think they know the issues and become the faces of our problems without checking with us first. let US become the faces of our continent and show the w3est that “Ex Africa semper aliquid novi!”!!!

    THE TRUE PIRATES are the EUROPEAN & CHINESE ships who expect to continue to PLUNDER the last of AFRICA’S resources. WHY does AFRICA’S gold, diamonds, oils, etc. all belong to everyone BUT the AFRICANS. Its high time they FOUGHT BACK. HELL they hardly have CLEAN WATER or RICE to EAT but THEIR REGION IS RICH IN RESOURCES. I call this adaptation(DARWIN’S THEORY) they are trying to COMPETE TO EAT. It’s that simple! WHOEVER is PLUNDERING all o their lands goods GETS WHAT THEY DESERVE. PIRATES?? It depends on how skewed your view is and IF you really know HISTORY

  • http://www.soapdish.socialgo.com Choose Maikgethelo

    Chinilev, I agree with you about us not owning our own resources and how we have been robbed by the west for so long, not to worry though as the new generation is fighting to get our land back. however when you start stereotyping like no clean water and rice you sound just a little too vague. not all of Africa is going through that. and we don’t emphasise on having rice because ths is not Asia. Our staple meal here is mealie meal.
