Adidas isn’t trying to compromise their contract with UCF just so ONE student can wear another brand of sneaker, especially Jordans. UCF just told him that before they actually talked to Adidas.
And rich folks are quick to get their kids on scholarships because if they don’t have to spend money, they won’t.

@real sh*T – If he ain’t got it in writing, it’s a wrap. The University probably didn’t tell him that anyway. It would have been discussed between the recruiters and Marcus. The recruiter’s job is to get him to come there. He probably told him yes, anticipating that the school would be so happy about the recruit, they’d let it slide. It’s an “ask forgiveness, not permission” kinda thing, I think.
But now that he knows it’s not policy, he needs to decide if he will conform, or not play. Simple as that.

In my opinion, there are SEVERAL BCS schools who give a large amounts of athletic scholarships to less fortunate students based soley on their athletic ability and not their academic accomplishments. How many football, basketball, baseball, etc college players forego their junior & senior year to turn pro? The main reason they give for going pro is to provide a better life for their family.

The issue is not Marcus’family financial status or who his father is. IF Marcus was the cream of the crop, he would not be attending UCF. He would be attending a big name school who he could lead to national championship. I’m more than sure the Jordan’s have paid plenty of money to private schools to ensure their children receive a quality education. Not sure the tution at UCF but if the school wants to give the young man a scholarship, he does what it takes to maintain the scholarhsip priviledges the so be it.

Better question? You are a single parent making $60K a year. You have a daughter who is a solid B student, who may not qualify for scholarship based on academic standards. You can not receive a grant because your single parent makes too much money! Go figure!! So do we penalize the single parent for making too much money ($60K -please) and reward the parent who does not make any money? Just A Thought!

The school thought they could placate him and Addidas but got burned. I understand some of you all didn’t graduate high school so you wouldn’t understand, but this has nothing to do with the team and everything to do with business. The only reason i am talking about this is that I do attend UCF not UFC as some people say…The state of Florida has almsot ( i think we are) the lowest in-state tution in the country at the moment…The school pays for their on campus housing and gives them a free meal plan as well since they are on scholarship… keep in mind all athletes are not on scholarship.. But when i heard he was coming to our school..i knew he was not the best player ever….

If Marcus didn’t get anything in writing from the University saying that it would be okay for him to wear Jordan’s then he doesn’t have a case. University contracts are serious business and if the school has a contract with Adidas then Adidas is what the players will wear. If he doesn’t want to wear Adidas then he needs to find another school to play for. He should not receive special treatment at all.
