Aaliyah on Fader

Check out this sneak peek of Aaliyah gracing the cover of Fader Magazine for the annual icon issue. Seven years after her passing, friends remember the pop diva:

Missy Elliott

“We was gonna save the world. We was gonna change music every chance we got. We was gonna always be family. Forever.”

Damon Dash

“She was already a fashion icon, she was getting into movies, she had already planted that seed. If she was alive today she would be so relevant. I see little bits of her everywhere I look, in a lot of artists.”

Check out the back and front covers of the upcoming addition below.

Aaliyah on Fader, Front & Back

that’s kinda creepy… I understand the tribute- but have “new” photos pop up on a magazine cover years later is a bit off…

    I thought the same thing.

  • bree

i see Ciara is commenting on her death..i wonder if she admits that if Aaliyah never lost her life, she’d have no career.

  • Marquis de Sade

What i admired about her talent, was that she knew how to play to her vocal strengths. – In that way she never gave in to the vocal histrionics like Beyonce, Christina Aguillera and some of her other peers. She was by far on the more intelligent singers. R.I.P.

  • Marquis de Sade

*She was by far one of the more intelligent singers*

  • http://www.tajwashington.com Taj

I receieved those magazines at work a week ago. I have over twenty copies if anyone wants any. It was a nice piece on her. But am I the only one to notice that she looks different in that picture versus the other (more recent) photos?

  • 1Prettyb

Er body know that Aaliyah would be the hottest chic in the game if she were here on earth…she is amongst other angels…

  • missing liyah

beautiful picture…I still miss her…wow, seven whole years…i remember the day I found out, August 26, 2001. it was around 10am…

  • Kim

    SHE WAS SO BEAUTIFUL……………………

  • Mena

I like Aaliyah and all, may she rest in peace, but this was one of those cases where ‘people are more appreciated after they’ve died’.

    No disrespect.

I don’t she was the greatest. Honestly, as much as I dislike Beyonce – she is the greatest. Her greatness surpassed Aaliyah’s and even if she still was alive I believe that would also be the case.

  • bree

WHY DO PEOPLE CONSTANTLY BRING UP BEYONCé’S DAMN NAME EVERYTIME THERE IS A DISCUSSION ABOUT A FEMALE ARTIST? WTF?

  • Brooklyn, Stand UP!

I Miss Aaliyah Soooooooooooooo Much! Her music was great… I still rock all her songs in my ipod.

    R.I.P. xoxoxo

I miss her terribly god had better plans for her R.I.P AALIYAH

  • Brooklyn, Stand UP!

    @Bree

Beyonce is wack!! No comparison whatsoever!!

  • bree

    HELLO BROOKLYN!!

  • MO

Missy Elliot needs to get a book on Grammar. It is not “we was” it should be “we were”. She sounds so illiterate!!!

  • soulwoman

No only why was Beyonce bought up but Ciara as well? Why can’t people just focus on the positive for once and leave the BS in the other post.

  • dre

    @brooklyn

sup fam just got back from my graduation ceremony, i have another one tomorrow, how are u?

  • It’s do or die

THAT IS MY GIRL RIGHT THERE!!!!!

NO COMPARISON TO ANYONE. SHE WAS THE TRUTH, TOTAL PACKAGE, LOOKS, TALENT and MAD STYLE!

GOOD JOB FADER FOR KEEP AALIYAH RELEVANT!!!!!!!!!

  • bree

    Brooklyn

i don’t think Beyoncé is wack, however the only comparison between her & Aaliyah are their professions and affiliations w/ the Roc

  • bree

    @ Soulwoman

i brought up Ciara because she is mentioned on the cover of the magazine

    Aww Aaliyah was so stunning…

Damn I miss her…she was my ultimate favorite artist.

  • jai.E

    she’s so amazing. :o

we need her so much right now.

    God bless her soul.

  • James

why do they have a dead person on a magazine cover as if she’s alive, the lady is gone man, let it go. I despise the idolizing of humans, its truly despicable.

  • Marquis de Sade

    @ Mena

Greatest in what respect? Aaliyah before her unfortunate death, also had a promising career in acting also. She had a pivotal role in the Matrix and a few other roles on the table…And as far as who was the better vocalist, that is not only subjective, but in some cases debabtable. Yes Beyonce has a more powerful range, but has (imho) a problem with enunciating some of her lyrics + she like some of her peers, tends to rely on too many runs (histrionics) and other vocal pyrotechnics…Where as Aaliyah was smart enough to just sing the song in the way that the classic vocalist of yesteryear suchas Dionne Warick does.

  • Valenne

    @ mena,

    you re just a stan!

don’t pretend you don’t like beyonce and then claim she is the greatest!

She might be rich or doing it big but she is not the greatest singer, she is not the greates dancer, she is not the greatest writer so what do you mean! I understand that she have millions of fans but guess what there are 6 billions of folks in this plabet so just bring your BS to beyonce world!

    thank you!

  • vachick

Im glad im not the only one that wouldve never known that was aaliyah had they not said it..yes she look just like jill marie scott right there..I dont like that pic cause it doesnt really show the real aaliyah but hard to believe she was even younger than me when she passed…gone far too soon…

  • Southern Belle 225

Just gorgeous and beautiful pics….She is truly missed! Love her forever! I still listen to her music. I just got finished listening to that song she did with DMX. I’m sad now. :(

  • Valenne

    greatest*

    billions*

    planet*

  • Valenne

    Damn,

I swear something is wrong with Beyonce’s fans.

I love lots of different artists , i don’t need to call anybody the greatest or not, that just disturbing man! Just like they brainwashed or something!

  • kai

Here we go wit Beyonce again…Obsessions i swear..When Beyonce was still Destinys Child, Aaliyah was singing and acting WELL, I might add. You never know who will be great. Sometimes it takes a death to pave the way for greatness in another person. Beyonce should be thankful…..

  • http://www.jhazzaisworld.wordpress.com jhazzaisworld

I miss Aaliyah so very much, and Lisa “Left Eye” Lopez as well. I loved their spirit.

    http://www.jhazzaisworld.wordpress.com

  • kai

Why would you bring up Beyonce in memory of another respectable artists death? Thats not necessary

  • Valenne

Back to the subject. Aaliyah is a genious! But i feel sorry to imagine that she might have been abused by R Kelly!!! But she was looking fine so i guess it did not disturb her too much!!

  • Eye

I have tears in my eyes. R.I.P

  • kit

there is only one aaliyah and knockoffs need to fall back.it still break my heart knowing this child is dead

  • Eye

I am putting her songs on my ipod when I get home. She was such a respectable person who had integrity. Jay said it best when blew up her song I miss you.

thanks buddie, some chic fainted when she collected her degree on stage!!! HILARIOUS

  • as seen on t.v.

even though i didn’t know her personally her passing affected me so deeply…she reminded me alot of my late cousin…taken too soon as well…she was a beautiful girl and a wonderful performer and she will always be missed…iconic is truly what she has become…RIP babygirl…

  • Missy

RIP Alliyah! You are truly loved and missed by many…

(Respectfully speaking) True, there should be a time when comments should be geared directly towards the topic and I GUESS this would be the case concerning Alliyah – respect for the dead. But, truthfully, it doesn’t even matter who the topic is about, if people want to divert from it a little bit to state their OPINION, then darnit…so bit it! I don’t see how Mena’s comment was all that offensive. As far as who’s the greatest, that’s a personal opinion again. Yes numbers speak volumes, but people are still entitled to state what they do/don’t like.

I’ve tried to listen to Alliyah’s last album – and I can’t. It’s so hard to do because you have this dying need to want to hear more and you know you can’t. That’s torture! But I love “At Your Best”. That’s a jam amongst the many that she had. I think I can tolerate this song more because it makes me cry and gives me strength at the same time.

    Woo, that’s deep!!!

Love Alliyah, but there was something about that movie, Queen of the Dam, that I did not like seeing a beautiful Angel like Alliyah playing that crazy vampire. Acting or no Acting. I did not like that movie. And I read that Alliyah was afraid of flying.

  • Missy

    @Valenne

I actually concur with everything you said. I have the feeling that we have the same interest in music just based off the few artists you mentioned: The Roots, Erykah B. I’m not into a lot of this music these days, I can’t even tell you the last time I bought an album. I’ve been playing ol’ skool music for over 3 years now…lol. But I feel you on the people who come on these gossip sites talking about how many albums such and such sold like that constitutes them the best thing since slice bread, but that’s still an opinion – a “brainwashed” opinion like you said. I was just saying that people are going to have a difference of opinions and are going to say something on the WEB that people aren’t going to agree with, but you have to respect what their opinions at the end of the day because it’s their opinion. But like you, I can preach knowledge or what not in hopes that they’ll get it. If they do…great! If not…keep it moving.

Glad you like, now let’s see what’s poppin later.

My bad, you didn’t mention The Roots as in the band, you were making a philosophical statement in terms of roots…LOL. But if you like E. Badu, I’m sure The Roots are not too far behind. Peace.

I mean when you really like an artist, it is because you are really touched by him, you know, the message, the voice or whatever, but people don’t even say what they like about her! They just say what is “known” about her! But anyways, my last album was Erykah badu and a compile of Guru!! But i need some music now. I usually habg out on disc store to find the old school soul music cause i love it and you would be surprised to see how you recognize somme songs. I even listen to the original of the songs of Alicia call “if i was your woman”. I was like damn, i hope she did not say she wrote it! lol!! But i love Alicia too!

Why are people talking about Aaliyah like she was the best artist out there .. during her time she was cool. Her singing ability was definitely no better than mediocore but she had her own style and was setting trends and was a very pretty girl. You are instantly granted sainthood when you die young. She is only iconic because shes dead. Her portfolio doesnt suggest otherwise. When she was alive, critics constantly critized her on her lack of vocal skills and I remember going to a concert of hers where she was almost booed because her singing was so soft, low it was almost nonexistant, and she wasnt even the headliner. It would be like calling Ashanti a legend should she suddenly die.

  • Princess

Felt like I grew up with her in a way… Very sad day when it was announced that she had passed, she seemed to be such a beautiful person…

  • mami_Z

R.I.P. Baby Girl, you are truly missed in the game…ICON Indeed!

  • tintin

for some reason i thought aaliyah was the best. even after beyonce came out and there was destiny’s child i always remained to think that aaliyah was my girl. she was honestly my favorite artist cause she was one woman that always remained the same. she never changed her image for the game and i just respected her so much for that. she was a tomboy and remained that. even when she tried the girly thing she always went back to the baggy leather pants and shades. Aaliyah was the greatest cause she didn’t make this industry change her. beyonce did, ciara did, mariah did, all those girls just sold their souls.

  • mami_Z

Oh and for the Haters: Vocals don’t always make you a celebrity…..Aaliyah had elegance & a swagger outta this world, that even Aretha Frankilin or Whitney couldn’t touch!!!! It’s not all about the vocals sweetie!! Quit hating.

  • Des

I love Aaliyah so much, even got a D tat right where she has her A. I admired the woman because she was amazing at everything she did, nobody could touch her..to think it’s been seven years hurts and makes me want to cry. She made us all feel like we knew her and that’s something these artists just can’t do now.Half of them are not as original as Aaliyah was and never will be. Stay up. God bless.

  • Valenne

I agree that Aaliyah was kinda weak vocally but she had everything else going on, she could dance, she could write, she has swag, she was really a lady even thought she has this hood style! But she was not the greatest but again, who is??

  • DIAMONDCHEERS

Bye will er i mean dre

  • Valenne

    lol@ Missy,

I listen some kind of weird Hip hop! One of my favourite guy is OH NO from the Stones throw crew and his famous brother who is MADLIB. He produced few songs in erykah badu album! I mean, that girl is crazy! Have you heard “my people” and “telephone”!! geez, she is on another level!

  • Missy

Alliyah had a style that a lot of young girls wanted to immulate. She was cool on the exterior, but really funny/sweet inside (atleast that’s what she exude). Her voice wasn’t all the best to me, but it soothe me at times. I could definitely tolerate it. I think what really seperated her from the typical artists of her time was her style and the way she dressed. Everybody was rocking black shades and ATTEMPTED to wear the baggy pants with boxers (?) underneath. But ofcourse, that style wasn’t for everyone…but she wore it well. RIP Baby!!!!!!

  • Morgab

Wow, good to know that mainstream media still remembers babygirl. She is one of my top favorite artist of all time, her music was like no other, rnb is truly missing on e its elements and with aaliyah gone, music has or will never be quite the same.

  • Missy

    **Correction: Emulate**

  • B

RIP Baby Girl! You are missed…

    @ marquis and ALL

Aaliyah was the VALEDICTORIAN of her HIGH SCHOOL class…she was VERY intelligent and it showed in all her pubic appearances…its an interview of hers on youtube Ithink with Ellen and yes, the girl had a nice package as it included intelligence–which could not be questioned IF you look at any of her interviews. She was so relaxed as education gives one a confidence..she exuded it..not just while on stage…but in interviews, candid footaget etc…

  • DIAMONDCHEERS

    ^^^^ *missy*

  • Kompton’s Kutie

Beyonce and Aaliyah are on two different levels.

Beyonce had to Ahh people with little outfits and bootylicious dancing.

Aaliyah had a angelic presence about her that made people flock to her even if she had no real talent, so if she were still here today, I don’t think Aaliyah would be working poles on stage like B does.

  • marteaus

I named my daughter after her…..I miss her so much!

  • Map

Love her self-titled third cd. Still play it.

  • Morgab

And another thing aaliyah just always stayed true to herself and to person who mentioned her swagger i totally agree, she was her own person and looked to no one for style, she had originality that is unheard of virtually in today crap N B. RnB is tragic, nobody is good it’s all pop, rihanna sucks, beyonce(i love you girl) but your music has no depth, Alicia Keys is on point but aint no Aaliyah. It’s sad, i only listen to alternative and RnBoldies nowadays, music just aint that ish it used to be.

  • Valenne

Oh and lets not forget that Aaliyah has always hag doo mentors too! R kelly (pedophile but genious), and Timbaland who create this new sound ONLY for her!

  • kna80

I think Aaliyah was great in her day. She set the trend for that period. Like an previous post said, women artist weren’t showing their crouchs back then. I think if Aaliyah were alive today she’d being doing what most artist do for fame.

  • Valenne

    had good mentors*

    created*

  • abbey

she was different. had her own style — and it wasn’t even fully formed. i was excited about what she was going to become. there’s definitely a void. i still play her stuff. no one sings as pretty as she did. no one.

    oy…gotta go.

  • Valenne

    @ Missy,

it reminds me the time i was chilling with my friends, mostly men, snoking and playing music all night! Do you know a old school group called Spontaneous???

  • Morgab

yeah aaliyah was intelligent, she had a 4.0 or something but even beyond grades, she just talked as if she knew somehow her life was going to be cut short, she talked with the wisdom of experience and she just didn’t have time to discuss the B.S. Beyonce is iconic and all, but she never provokes thought when she opens her mouth to me, Aaliyah said things that were profound, like Tupac, another favorite of mine. Gospel is another genre I love and appreciate, no matter what you are guranteed depth, emotion, and soul, period.

  • REALNESS

Okay I will always love Aaliyah but why the MORBID pic?

Why mention VAMPIRE on the cover when her last movie was QUEEN OF THE DAMNED?

There is something satanic about this magazine COVER! !

  • R.I.P no matter what

I wish her eyes were open. By them being close I get the immediate image of how she must have looked in her coffin. It kinda makes me uneasy. She still looks pretty though.

  • Missy

    @Valenne

Spontaneous? Nope never heard of ‘em. I should check them out, huh? What genre? Hip-Hop? The “real” one? LOL

Oh the summer nights…Not saying that it was summertime when you hung out with your peoples, but just flashing back on all this good music makes me think of those summer nights when I was listening to that good music. Ahhhh….

  • Missy

    @B

You’re right! We don’t know what Aliyah would be doing today with her career and fame – or life period – if she were alive. But based on her character and personality, you can just about determine/predict that she wouldn’t be flashing herself all over the stage and shaking her booty as if she’s trying to dry her @ss like a dog. LMAO!! That was funny (to me). hee-hee

That girl was a leader, not a follower!!!

  • Valenne

yep it is hip hop, i don’t know them really well, i just went to my friend’s house and he always have some new thing he discovered and it was crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!

Damn it i miss them! I was tired of hangin out with them though because you know you cannot spend all your life smoking and listening to Music to change the world lol!! You have to go to school graduate and have a normal life but my best friend is always saying that music is his only WIFE!!

  • Valenne

and he is doing some kinda crazy beats, you will be surprised. i really don’t think Hip Hop is dead!!!lol

There was a concert of dead Prez last week end and i missed it ! Hip hop is still alive! You know the time when they did not care about Bling bling and money! The time when HIP HOP was a culture not a trademark!!

  • Frog-a-licious

    R.I.P. Baby Girl!

  • Gurrrllll Stop!!!!

I love AAliyah…all these broads would need to hang it up if she was still here..

“Aaliyah would not be doing what most female artist are doing for fame and attention she stated that there was some things she would never do out of respect that her Mom would not approve of it, on the other hand, Beyawwwwnnnccee’s Mom designs a lot of her ugly hooker stage outfits.

  • tintin

i doubt she looked like that in her coffin. remember she died in a fiery plane crash.

  • cns

She might not have had the strongest vocals, but her lyrics and vocal arrangement were good, and her music especially her ballads moved me and inspired me. For me a moving ballad is more important that CD sales, because if I like your music I will buy it and if I don’t I wont.

I follow the sentiments of those remembering the news of Aaliyah’s untimely death. For those saying that they didn’t know her but were still touched, you’re human and that’s perfectly okay. I shed a tear the morning I heard because my favorite artist (& yes I was a fan all along) had been killed & that’s not typically how you’d like to wake up…to such news. At any rate, if she was living, she’d be so raw with the music & just her naturally cute steeze. Fader magazine did this cover some justice.

  • Wanted

    Miss her!

  • so f*ckin’ rude

dis is a nice cover, best cover in 08′. damn, i miss her so much. Aaliyah forever

  • Shawn08

Aaliyah’s vocal arrangements were to die for. That is why she stood out vocally. Her dancing was effertlessly, thats why she stood out dancing. Her swagger was orginial. She was likeable. That is why she is remembered even today.

If Ashanti were to die. She would be remembered a weak vocalist, but beautiful body and could were a dress better the 90% of all people. She wouldn’t be an icon. That’s for sure!

  • Shawn08

The cover does not look like Aaliyah. Too dark. Nose look too big… Just does not look like her.

  • Whatchaknoaboutdat?

Is this the anniversary of her death or something??? They’re using her pic to sell magazines to her follers…

    please let that child RIP!!!!

  • Whatchaknoaboutdat?

oops… that’s would be “followers” or STANS!!!

  • jon

She was truly a lovely person. She is missed.

  • California Pixie

Beautiful pictures. From the pictures you get a sense of her peaceful and kind soul. Absolutely stunning.

  • California Pixie

Anyone know what this new Check Me Out! thing is?

  • Jay

Aaliyah was that rare artist who transcended boundaries and was truly original. She was different because girls wanted to be like her and the fellas loved her. She oozed sex appeal and class. Everything about her was effortless, from her image to her music and the way she sang. She created a niche and it’s laughable how these girls are trying to fill her void.

    RIP Baby Girl.

-A Bay area fan since ’94.

  • California Pixie

    @Jay

I agree. Aaliyah created a niche that remains void to this day. She was classy and never came across vulgar. No one has come along of the same caliber in the R & B sector. Let me rephrase that…no “young” lady has come along with equal impact. Which is unfortunate because we have so many talented young singers who are more than capable but they are pimped out by the Puff Daddy’s of the music industry.

  • Monique

It’s funny how some of you equate singing in a soft falsetto with being a weak singer. Aaliyah could blow just as well as Monica, if not better. Do some of you not remember her banging track, “The One I Gave My Heart To”? But it just was her style. That’s what set her apart from others. She was the anti-r&b singer in a sense. Subtlety was what she was about. Less is more.

And to the person who said she would be as relevant as Brandy and Monica today is a damn lie. While their careers were descending in in the 2000′s, Aaliyah’s career was gaining momentum with the new album and movies that were rolling in.

I suppose only the older generation remembers. I’m 28, am I showing my age? lol

  • Daneria from the BX

    RIP AALIYAH!!!

baby girl was anything but mediocre. her music is still fresh after all these years. aaliyah = timeless. her pinky had more swagga than most of these r&b chicks have put together! sistas, ain’t that the truth! NY misses you ma!

  • California Pixie

    @Monique

I guess I’m definitely showing my age as well and I have you by a number of years!

I forgot about Monica. I think she could have had a better career but somehow she got derailed. Not sure what happened there.

  • nope

She’s burning in her grave I guarantee it, then it’s off to Hell once Judgment Day commences.

  • Slim

Im not about to get into all that “Beyonce vs. Aaliyah bs” that seems to be taking place.

What I do want to say is that Aaliyah had a presence and aura about her, you knew she was a good person without knowing her and the way she delivered her songs and dance routines were just to genuine and effortless. She made it look easy and please believe if she were still here she would extremely relevant. She was timeless and would have gone on to become a triple, quadruple threat in the game. I miss her still and have many of her songs on my mp3 player. Her remake of “At Your Best” cannot be touched. R.I.P Aaliyah, your fans miss you more than we can express.

  • http://baidu.com TREE

OMG, she looks so hot. It seems that girl is dating online now. I saw her profile on dating site “W e a l t h y lo v I n g . c o m” last week. It is said she is dating young billionaire on that site.

  • Jamal

Aaliyah was a modern day Sade. You saw her when she wanted you to see her. She wasn’t about over-saturating the market like some of the starlets today. She knew the importance of her absence. She was very smart in knowing to grow her career slowly. It was truly as if she blossomed right before our eyes. I remember every cat in high school and college wanted a shorty like Aaliyah. Like everyone said earlier, she would still be relevant and making moves today if she were alive. You just knew. Why is it that her name is still being brought up 7 years later? That’s a testament to her legacy in itself.

    Rest In Peace Aaliyah.

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/doranda777 Van (Tokyo,Japan)

It’s a beautiful girl, but knid of creepy. with her being dead and being on the cover of a magazine with her eyes closed.

  • bea

Aaliyah was a gifted artist who owned her craft. she had a sweet, soothing, voice and moved gracefully on stage. She is surely missed.

  • anonymous

She’s so cool. I love her very much. A few days ago, I saw her at the celebrity website called millionarechats.com, she posted a nice profile there. Seems she is looking for a nice guy there.

  • happy to be alive

Hold up…. aren’t those the pictures from Campbell Funeral Home in New York? She was dressed and redressed 6 times before her body was actually displayed for her family and closest friends. She eventually was dressed in a white dress. The pictures are clearly a dead person. What gives?

  • Kenya

I really miss Aaliyah. The music scene is really not the same without her. Truly a beautiful person inside and out.

  • misty

RIP Aaliyah….she was ONE of a kind and a legend…she will always be missed. She was the ultimate while I was growing up. Everyone loved her, everyone. There was nothing to hate!

After all these years, it still seems almost unbelieveable she’s gone…too soon

  • Cry

    wow someone said….

“Aaliyah had something that even Aretha Franklin or Whitney couldn’t touch”

Now see how things are getting out of hand because the girl is dead.SMH

Everyone has their own opinion I guess

  • Its6amHoGetOut

I just wish she was still alive so she could testify against RKelly

  • Cry

I’ve seen pictures of Aaliyah topless and her lil bee stings clearly out. But you people wouldnt have seen that because these sleeze magazines and Internet blogs weren’t so popular.

Go to Virgin Meg Store in NYC 42nd street it’s a book on her.

The funny think is yall knew she wasn’t an angel but you refuse to admit it because she’s Deceased. She married R.Kelly she was about to Marry beer belly, pouring champagne on women, bald headed Dame Dash and you know she wasn’t no virgin but to yall she was Smart, respectful and blah blah blah as if yall knew the chick personally.

I liked her songs too but when she passed I realized how I just started loving her more then when she was here. I just stepped back to the reality of it all. Sorry I’m a realist

  • Cry

    R.I.P please!!!

  • http://www.myspace.com/t3pps t3pps

beautiful pictures. she’s always be one in a million

  • Blue Face

I wonder how’s she be now. Hopefully would have followed the trend of being thick. Girl was too thin. zi have her MTV Diary on tape and her making the video of ‘Rock the Boat’. I just realized how young she was and how old she would have been now.

I just been to 2 funeral 2 weeks straight. Life is so different until death happens then you realize how much you take advantage of everything.

  • Blue Face

Cherish your love ones people no matter how young or old. Make it a point to make sure they are dealing with life okay talk to them. Enough with the fake ‘How you doin’ Actually Care next time Life is short!!!!!

  • Sparkle

Still miss you baby girl! Aaliyah’s untimely death did open the door for Ashanti and Ciara. Yes Aaliyah used her sexuality but in a muted kittenish way – not in your face. But I still think that Bey and Alicia K have their own styles too and it’s not really fair to compare them to Aaliyah. They are all beautiful and talented young woman. It’s just that Aaliyah died at the height of her career and will never grow old and faded like so many stars if they live on into their 40s and beyond.

  • BellaY

WOW! Its hard to believe that its been almost seven years since she passed away. She was JUST about to blow up!! RIP Aaliyah.

  • De

These chicks like Ciara, Beyonce and Rhianna can’t hold a candle to her in looks, talent or song appeal.

  • De

In addition, these chicks can’t dance the way Aaliyah did.

  • lanette

    RIP Babygirl….

  • California Pixie

    @Blue Face

Sorry to hear about your last two weeks. Your words are so true.

to the person who said Aaliyah was no angel. Of course, she wasn’t. Who is? We all have not so great things we’ve done. In regards to her marriage to RKelly, she was child and he took advantage of that. That’s on him and is exactly why he’s in the predicament that he’s in now. The difference is her parents recognized what was going on and put a stop to it…having the marriage annulled.

Music changed for the worst when she passed. Her presence and talent are so missed.

  • terry

A lot of you are overrating her. She was alright for the moment. And I know I’ll get some flack but who cares. She passed young and pretty, sad, but her music was shaped by top notch producers.

Who I truly miss is Philis Hyman.

    What a voice!

  • C.C.

While I was never a big fan of hers, she was beautiful and positive.

I wonder did she make it into Heaven? I actually dreamed that I saw Dr. Martin Luther King,Pope John Paul, Harriet Tubman, and Ghandi in Heaven. I even saw Princess Diana. She was content and at peace, but she wasn’t where the others were. She was in a green pasture picking fruit. It was sight to see.

    Anyway, oyasuminasai.

  • Kissess

Aaliah was a classy, beautiful young lady none of the so call artists they have today can come close to Aaliah, you are so missed love you.

BEYONCE WHO? CIARA WHO? RHIANNA WHO? If Baby Girl was still alive she would still be shutting all of them (and more) down effortlessly. I say: LMFAO! Aaliyah was beautiful and talented but she couldn’t even outshine Brandy who was kicking her and Monica’s butt with album sales and the whole nine. I can’t stand Beyonce at times but even I’ll admit that the woman has forced every female artist, including legends like Janet, Mimi and Madonna, to step their games up. Beyonce blows every female out the water right now. Aaliyah wasn’t doing it when she was alive, nor is she doing that now.

    May she rest in peace.

  • Mike Lo

Aaliyah, the princess of r&b and a true legend. She was a great person and will be truly missed. It was great to go to elementary school with her at Gesu 1990-1991, in the D back in the day (for those who stay in detroit you know where Im talkin about). Anyways R.I.P. sweetheart it was an honor.

  • Marquis de Sade

You tell her Khia er i mean Mizz Pimpin

  • http://! TAY

I just adore her. Everything about her always seemed so perfect. She truly was flawless! They played her video with DMX the other day and her sound is so timeless. It is very true that you see bits and parts of her in alot of artists especially alot of the dancing!

    Rest In Peace!!

  • Marquis de Sade

    @ Mizz Pimpin

You misread me. I have problems with her as well. I goofed on her on another thread also. Kudos on your Khia personality. You actually had a few people believing you were the real thing.

I (and I’m sure most of us here) have been Aaliyah fans since she came out point blank. I’m tired of folks trying to get on that “…oh you and every else only started liking her after she passed…” tip. NO. Thats not only being presumptuous, but disrespectful too.

    RIP L-I-Y-A-H. :(

  • RIP AALIYAH

AWWWW AALIYAH, WHAT A BEAUTIFUL WOMAN SHE WAS…MY FAV & WILL ALWAYS BE MISSED, NEVER FORGOTTEN BABY GIRL!!!!!

  • UGH

    @ Cry and Bree

Aaliyah was not just a nobody when she died. she had millions of fans across the worldBEFORE she passed away. You act like she was a nobody when she was alive. And the only reason Brandy was big in the 90s, is because of her mediocre tv show Moesha she had. It was good the 1/2 season but then it started gettin worse and worse. but anyways. Aaliyah did sing in a soft voice but that doesnt mean she can’t sing. She can put power in her voice just like that unreleased song “givin up” that she did. that is proof that her voice is as strog as Beyonce. And who ever said aaliyah’s career was going down in 2000. her last album was #2 on the billboard charts before her death plus she had a ton of movie contracts on under her belt. and why can’t we bring up her memory? we want her legacy to live on.

Meeko I am Aaliyah’s number one fan and although that may have been”Aaliyah and your sister” for the simple fact that she is not a relative of Aaliyah’s or is her I can’t take the”Singing is not what she wanted to do all of her life” statement because if Aaliyah was here to speak for herself they’d be No maybes about what other goals she wanted to achieve,Your sister can not speak on her behalf.Aaliyah was a very talented woman and touched many of our lives through her music and what made it even better was that she wasn’t only beautiful inside but OUT…and she was humbled about it.She may not have been perfect but how many of us are?In my eyes she was and still is one of my angels,I don’t doubt for a second that she wasn’t a nice girl but we all have our BAD sides, lol because were HUMAN!but still to this day it upsets me to know she is no longer with us in physical form,But I know spiritually she is.As for all the profanities towards the other female artists?why all the hate just because they have a different taste in style??You must not respect women to call another woman “hoe” because remember that you have a mother which we ALL do and a sister who love you.The few artists that you mentioned are Very talented.
