Rashida’s quite fetching. Insulting her or discounting her appearance because she’s biracial makes about as much sense as someone belittling black people for being black.
Although, insulting someone for being belligerent bigots with third-grade writing skills is fair game.
And it feels as though half of the hostility toward Rashida, and her dad, is for the one act that’s unforgivable among a people who are quick to forgive the sociopaths and criminals in their community: abandonment. Rashida, perhaps by virtue of the cultural imprinting from a white parent, doesn’t have to live like we do. She’s not stuck without any options to being “black” (i.e., limited by a peasant mentality and barbaric behavioral norms). It may or may not have been Quincy Jones’s intent to give his daughter a genetic dispensation from the terminal condition of negritude, but she has one, and she is making the most of it. At some point, the only black people left, at least in the United States, will be those who are only partially black. Full-strength blackness is not survivable. We are actually extinguishing ourselves as a race. The biracial outliers will make it, but even they will suspect that negritude is unpropitious for evolution, and they will breed it out of existence in a few generations. There won’t be anything left of us but embarr*****ment at our colossal failure at life’s big test for any organism — survival.
