Medical Worker Arrested For Sexually Abusing A Sedated Patient

A medical worker who arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a sedated patient at a north Scottsdale pain-treatment facility has admitted to the incident, according to AZ Central. This comes after he viewed the surveillance camera footage with Scottsdale police, according to Maricopa County court records.

38-year-old Xavier Perez initially told authorities that he did not remember the specific patient at Integrated Palm Consultants, Scottsdale police said in a probable cause statement included in court records. When he was initially questioned by investigators, Perez claimed that the victim–who had been sedated and was in a recovery room–grabbed his hand to touch her genital area inappropriately after undergoing a procedure on June 25, 2018.

Perez told police that he responded by quickly pulling his hand away, adding there had been previous patients who have attempted to touch him inappropriately, as well. But in the court records, police say there was no evidence from the video to show movement from the patient, who was actually in the process of regaining consciousness.  The video showed that Perez had closed the privacy curtain and the view of the patient was obstructed.

After viewing the video evidence, Perez admitted that he touched the victim’s genitalia underneath her clothing, the statement said. The victim initially reported that after she came out of sedation, she felt that she had been sexually assaulted, according to police.

The 48-year-old woman told officials that the procedure did not require her to undress, but as she was regaining consciousness, she could feel the medical technician pull his hands away from her genital area. A forensic nurse examination confirmed that the victim sustained an injury to her genital area.
