Racism Doesn’t Exist Anymore?: Chicago Bar Turns Away Black Students And Wait Till You Hear the Asinine Excuse!

A popular bar in Chicago was visited by a group of college kids from St. Louis. The bar denied entrance to all the African-American men in the group. Bar management told the men that their pants were too baggy, but when an African-American male student changed pants with a white kid:

Most clubs do have dress code policies. If he changed pants with the white man whose to say that the pants were a proper fit? C’mon, Im sure there were other bars around they could go to. Some ppl love the drama.
I heard about this last week, but didn’t know that the black student changed clothes with the white student and the white student was granted entry. That in itself speaks volumes and I’d love to hear the rebuttal made from the club owner…

I have never seen a “light skinned only” signs at any party or gathering but, if there was one you can be sure it was some dark skinned brothers who put up the sign to attract redbones…SMFH

here in Philly, they advertise it on the radio, quite blatantly. There aren’t any signs involved(that I know of). I just heard it in the car on the radio. True story.
I also heard that the students who organized this trip contacted the club and told the club about their planned visit. The problem that I heard about was that the club claimed to be worried about security but they were already aware of this group of people attending their venue. So, the dispute was more involving the fact that Washington University has a stereotypical student body of rich, white kids and then when the black kids showed up there was a “problem”…
this ***** happened to a group of my friends and I once in Dallas at some spot called The Blue Planet…*****ed up..
When I see or read articles of this nature it all ways blow my mind to see that such drama still exist that’s why we need to stick together just like they do not saying to be a racist be to protect your lively hood

I live in Chicago and Mothers is to put in nicely a white bar. It’s not a club but a large bar in an affluent part of Chicago. It is a well known bar but mainly white people go there. I am not surprised by what happened. If I would have known the young black men I would have told them to go somewhere else because seeing frat boys and drunken girls dance on table is not my thing. I am also not surprised they were from out of town as Black Chicago knows how those area are notorious for their baggy pants rule. there is a bowling alley that won’t let you in with baggy pants and doo rags.
There are also black establishments that have strict dress codes! What they (Mother’s) did was wrong, especially after the young man changed clothes…..But, they do this at some black establishments to keep out a certain element.

But if you’re from Chicago and you go to any of those bars near the West and South loop or the North side you know darn well you are GUARANTEED to see some YT boys in blazers and button ups in the middle of the street goin at it. ALLL The time. That dress code ids a bunch of bs…

As much as anyone may dislike saggin (*****s spelled backward), if this “rule” disproportionately singles out blacks (which it does), it’s racist. And trust the folks who made up that “rule” knew exactly who their “target” audience was…

well i must say i wouldn’t have wanted all that ghettoness in my establishment either. too bad black men perpetuate these stereotypes of the baggy pants doo rag wearing likely to start a shootout (as in the other bar a few weeks ago)but never understand when others fear what tends to come of those stereotypes.
Sorry black people but this has been a pet peeve of mine for some time. We must pull our pants up literally and figuratively. I would have to think that college seniors have the sense to do that but I’m never surprised.
On the other hand, Washington University is no joke either. It’s a really good and tough school. I imagine that the black students weren’t dressed any differently than most of the other (white) patrons. If these were freshmen, I could see some of them coming up to the door with their pants around their knees. Seniors, who will be out in the work force this spring, know better and were probably dressed fine.

if the pants fit the same on the white kid as on the black kid, and the white kid was allowed in, then u have to question the basis for denying entry to the other kid. what is the only difference between the two? drinking age? appropriate ID? skin color? i need more facts but on the surface, it looks like the kid was denied based on the color of his skin with all else being equal.
someone mentioned that the “dress code” barring saggy pants targets african american (and it does), but then i prefer places that bar saggy pants too (a bar…i don’t care about saggy pants…but a nice nightclub…keep them (white or black) out!).

I digress, its been no different the same crimes and same incidents have been occurring they just have more visibility as the Media loves to illustrate any racial instability it seems. There have been some increase in different crimes against minorities especially hispanic citizens, thats not from Obama but from the growing xenophobia from the past decade that has been brewing and *****isted from idiots like Glen Beck, Lou Dobbs etc and the new manifestation of whats left of the republican party. Cause in the inverse I have seen depending on the generation where race relations have improved, look at the upcoming do*****entary of his campaign – thats a perfect example , I think everyone is just waiting for that certain contingent to die out for the rest of society to progress.
As far as this incident, please from working , running and attending Bars and Clubs this practice has long been used. Most establishments use some technique like this for minorities or really any that does not correlate to what they want for their establishments image. You let in too many minorities for example no matter what they look like , hail from etc – some club managers may feel that that may not appeal to their intended audience. Reasoning is though unless they can explicitly prove racial bias they can easily get away from this incident – which is already happening likely in the form of a apology and “racial sensitivity training” – then will be swept underneath the rug.

Hey, if you don’t know that we can’t do like they do and get away with it, then you haven’t been paying attention. We have to be better and more educated, more articulate and consistently “on point” just to compete with mediocre or below average white people. Day shifter said it best, “don’t give them excuses.”

The law says you can go to any public establishment, but I always have said Blacks need to patronize their own business establishments. Also, need to build up their own neighborhoods and communities. The Japanese, Koreans and other races do it. Instead of as soon as they get a little money, they run off to a white neighborhood, bussiness etc. THEY DON’T WANT YOU THERE.
Harlem New York, back in the day was a nice black community with beautiful brownstones with great architecture details, the type of details you don’t find often in today’s buildings (unless you pay for it dearly). Well, through the years the area became rundown, blacks living there did nothing to improve the area. Now, whites have sweep in bought up the buildings, cleaned up the neighborhoods, real estate values have increased, now it’s beautiful and a desirable place to live again.
Vision, people, you’ve got to have vision, because white people don’nt want you in their neighborboods and their businesses. They want your money but they don’t want you. It has very high probability that it will happen and likely very soon. Alot of security *****ysts have been following that for awhile long before Janet Napolitano’s comments and warning. Irony while she was lambasted for that as a political statement , no sooner in the next following days there was throughout the country numerous incidents that she outlined as a very real threat. I could care who is the president but nowadays we allow idiots to stand in the vicinity of where he is speaking with firearms. There are too many far soft targets in this country and security overall is widely a joke in comparison with other countries that have the same threats. Oklahoma City is still widely one of the worse incidents in our history and that was domestically grown issue. I relate to the same asinine logic that kept me out of my military service of fighting a pointless ideology of “terrorism” where most of the enemies we face are ones that we create, especially when it is the same cycle like Vietnam and noone seems to remember the historical precedent that entire region of the world.
Was probably just a dress code issue.

I’m from St. Louis and from what I heard on the radio stations, they did call this place and discussed that they would have a group of people attending as a cl***** trip. The school that they attended is a sterotypical rich, white school and it’s right under being considered ivy league. The establishment likey thought that the students would ‘appear’ differently. And, as the post states, a black student changed clothes with a white student and the white student got in. I don’t know if these two students had the same build where the pants would appear the same, but that in itself is rather disturbing…

If that were the case here, everyone would be saying how security isn’t tight enough.

Oklahoma bombing (whites), these people (whites) who are against abortions, that blow up the clinics and kill the doctors that provide the services, what about Peta (whites) throwing paint on people who wear fur coats, what about how when white people are terminated from employment they go home, get a gun, go back to the workplace kill their co-workers, go home kill their family, sometimes killing a few random people on the way home. They are just out there, so use to their sense of entitlement and not much history of adversity.
Now, That President Obama is in office, I don’t doubt that there’s more racial unrest. Whites feel like the country is being taken over from them and they are loosing their “white power”, control that they have had for hundreds of years. Just today in the news ***** whites were attacking some Latinos out there in California saying they did’nt belong here. Whites in their mind, are on a quest or mission to take back America, as they see it ….. totally white controlled.

I went to Mother’s about 20 years ago with a friend who was denied entrance because he didn’t have on a shirt with a collar. Chicago area bars are notorious for keeping blacks out of their establishments. Remember Oprah’s restaurnant, Michale Jordan and Walter Payton’s all had white folks running the show and would discriminate against blacks. So I am not surprised, it is still going on!
What I don’t understand is that if you look at the photo of the white student who changed jeans and went back into the bar, there is an African American standing at the bar having a drink directly behind him.

Happens all the time. Even right here in Toronto. I was out for a bday party when someone in our party was kicked out for being black AND BY A BLACK BOUNCER. I was attending the State University on a Athletic Scholarship my teammate a I were denied entry at to Mothers while the white friends in our group were allowed in. They invoked the” no collared shirt rule” I left and returned with a collared shirt they told me they needed 5 picture id’s. I hope they shutem down!

I used to live one block from the Mother’s on Division in Chicago. i have been there amny times and never had a problem, of course I do not wear pants that are two sizes too big either. I have seen plenty of black MEN there and never had a problem. I have also seen white boys get turned away at the door for being drunk before entering and having backwards baseball caps. If I owned a bar/club, I too would not allow people to come in with there pants so far down that they have to walk funny to keep them up. IT IS COONERY AND NEEDS TO STOP! Yeah, I said it. To all those who deny it’s racist, the same thing has been going on on Division Street for over 30 years. Yes, the clubs do and admit Blacks, but they had a quota. Years ago a friend and I went to a club across the street from Mother’s. My friend left his wallet in his car fearing it might get stolen and just brought his license. I carry a license & a state ID. When we got to the club they wanted two forms of ID. We knew it was because we were black. We went to a club next door & a got a white girl with ONE ID to attempt to get in. They let her in. Once @ Mother’s a friend of mine who is now a lawyer didn’t get in because he was two or three inches taller than his ID indicated he had grown. Some of the tricks the clubs would use then were: Couples only, no entry without a collar, no duplicate ID ( if you’d lost yours it the new one would say duplicate ), no jeans ( when white ppl would be in the club with jeans on ).
They took a photo with the black guy in the jeans & a white guy. They fit the same. Stop denying the racism.

I am not surpised. There was a club in my city that was reufsing to let one of my friends in because he had a damn tiny rocca wear logo on his sweater. This guy was dressed neatly in khakis and a blue sweater with a tiny white rocca wear logo on the left breast. Me and him were the only two black people out of our group of friends that night. After the big burly body gaurd denied him entry, my friend Matt offered John a t-shirt he had in the back of his trunk. The bodyguard said that those werent permitted either. I blew threw the roof. I told him i’d be writing a formal letter to the Rocca Wear clothing company informing them that there are night clubs discrminating against the clothing brand and what it stands for. I also stated the fact that while waiting along the side lines, i had seen four guys walk in with branded articles of clothing, not to mention the numerous barely dressed women that were showing off eveeeeerrything! One blond walked in with booty shorts on. Oops, i mean boy shorts. You know ladies, the kind you wear to bed!!! I was livid, i told him that my friend was better dressed than damn near everyone in that palce. John stood by and listened to me rant and rave, looking worried and defeated. See, he was a quiet preppy boy who had just finished grad school and was now working as a *****istant chief engineer for a major company. My friend John was the opposite of the character that the body gaurd tried to *****ociate him with. Well safe to say, that night i wasnt allowed entry into the club either!! The body gaurd said i was not the kind of patron the club needed. Ha! I walked away with my dignity. And told him there would be no patrons in that biased, played out music, skank hole of a club when im through. About a year later the owner filed bankrupcy and had to close down. God dont like ugly….
