Colorado Woman Arrested After Attempting To Kill Self And Kids By Driving Off Cliff

This story is pretty tragic but it could have been so much worse!

Jessica Dawn Garcia, a 42-year-old Colorado woman was arrested on March 30 after officers were called to the Colorado National Monument in Mesa County by a 13-year-old boy who, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by PEOPLE, jumped from a moving vehicle and dialed 911, claiming Garcia “was trying to kill him.”

The boy told emergency dispatchers there were other kids in the car as well as two dogs and that Garcia planned to drive off the cliff.

Police discovered Garcia’s white Ford Fiesta facing the wrong direction on the right-hand shoulder of the road at the monument’s west entrance. The car was only about 10 feet from the edge of the cliff and its “wheels were facing in the direction of the cliff.”

Officers saw “tire marks that suggested the car slammed on the brakes and slid forward, very close to the descent,” the affidavit reads.

Once there, an officer noted that “the first thing the woman said, unprompted, was ‘I wasn’t going to push them off,’” according to the affidavit.

At the scene, one of the children told an officer that Garcia “thought the earth was ‘corrupt’ and she wanted to make sure they could all ‘go home,’” the affidavit states.

When the child asked Garcia to clarify, she allegedly responded “with Jesus.”

Lawd… Can you imagine? These poor kids have to be sooooo traumatized.

Garcia is now facing four counts of attempted vehicular homicide and four counts of child abuse, according to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office and is being held on a $5000 bond. An arraignment is scheduled for April 16.

Those poor kids. Hopefully they (and the dogs) will find a loving home. We’re definitely praying for them.
