  1. Rihanna's sharp n pointy witchy fingernails took the oath

what in the hell did I just watch?

  2. Aunt Viv

    I can’t even finish. Madness.

  3. binarystar

I guess you guys couldn’t be bothered to read into the subtext of the lyrics.

  4. Smel

Yeah he’s downing BET…In the immortal words of Boyz II Men, this is more than a crush.

  5. Rihanna's sharp n pointy witchy fingernails took the oath

    @Binary
what do you mean? the fact that he didn’t want to sell his soul to be down with her or the fact that she has sold hers to depict blacks as idiots?

  6. Heir

Comedy???? Bossip Yall are trippin! This is the “essence” of hip hop. This is a shining example of all that is good in Hip Hop!!! Not to slight others by any means. While radio and TV play the most non thought provoking stuff …it’s refreshing to know Hip Hop at it’s core is still alive and well. Would be nice if your site as well as others would give an avenue for brothers like this to shine their good “product”. Were programmed to like all the booty shaking, violent, and misoginy* type stuff so much that when pure dope hip hop is in front of us we clown it??? damn shame…
    Heir

  7. Kesh

WHAT HE IS SAYING IS TRUE!!! WHEN ARE WE GOING TO WAKE UP AND REALIZE THAT WE ARE MORE THAN THE NEGATIVE IMAGE ON TELEVISION

  8. binarystar

    @Rihanna’s …

I just meant that it’s clearly not a love letter to Debra Lee. Unfortunately the idiotic programming she presides over has groomed a generation of people that can’t look deeper than the surface.

  9. andreas2g

    Dear Bossip,

Once again, you are off on this one. Did you switch your staff up? You’ve been off lately.

  10. Smash Worthington®

    Think Common’s “I Used To Lover H.E.R.”

SMH @ thinking this is a love letter to Debra Lee

  11. Po'Sha

That was a really good message and the tune was catchy too. Good Job!

  12. Smash Worthington®

I aint gonna lie though…I would smash Debra Lee..

Smash Worthy Vintage Award® game proper!

  13. Rihanna's sharp n pointy witchy fingernails took the oath

    @binary star
    thanks for the interpretation ;)

  14. Island Beauty

Good job brother! Bossip, you clearly missed the point of this song and in doing so you helped to make his point…SMDH! I dont know what is going on over there but the lack of intelligence you have been displaying lately is embar*****ing.

  15. Kayla

Ok Bossip this was not a LOVE LETTER to Deborah Lee it was clearly a complaint with thee ignorance of Blacks she’s exploiting on her program. I can’t stand BET Tiny & Toya, Frankie & Neffe, even 106 & Park is annoying.
In all honesty the one good thing BET will have going for them is the sitcom “The Game” as long as they don’t try and make it their own because BET screws up every good thing to make it into “Hoodratiness” –> not a word <– but it definitely is the truth. Welp I applaud him for his creatively and his essence of real hip hop. Music is slowly but surely dying…. SMH

My name is Kayla Im a MAC :)

  16. TruthBeSpoke

dude clearly is operating on a higher wavelength than most allow themselves to. I’m not a hip hop head despite the fact I’m of the generation….but this was inspiring. Nice editing as well. I agree with heir.

  17. top ramen

That was fly, and so very true. She’s living in a gated community and profiting off our struggle and hardship. As long as she can live in a gated community the negative things she puts out to the world she dosen’t have to endure. Straight house negro.

  18. I’m actually on a quest to find folks on the same wavelength as this brother.. I know its finding Aquafina in the desert, but its worth it.. Just gotta make sure the FAKE ones don’t trip me up again!

  19. I remember when Facebook was just for college students. My girl Janae came back form college on holiday and was so excited to show me her profile. Then, it opened up for high schoolers. Now, it is Match.com

  20. Rrrrroe Ski Love- A mind is a terrible thing to waste.

Bossip you might not post my comments, but you can’t stop me from going out and supporting this brother Jasiri X. He is actually speaking the truth about BET and Bossip (that you sell out our people)

  21. No u can't be boyfriend #2!

    WOW…there really is a lot of ‘c r a z i e s’ in this world for real!

  22. No u can't be boyfriend #2!

    MEANING…BOSSIP! LOL!

  23. AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWSHADDAAAP!!!!!

O, so what. Making mountains out of molehills. The young man is just trying to appeal to Debra Lee to do some soul searching and get her head right. It’s commendable. Having said that, I’m about to throw on The O’Jays “Stairway to Heaven” because that sample is taking me BACK.

  24. jk

Bossip you have some ignorant non-reading, non-editing people on your staff. Your site is part of the problem along with BET. I commend this young man and his positive message.

  25. Heir

To all those commenting positively on this joint…Why dont you (and myself included)…p***** it to someone else. Support it. This track/vid and all the others out there that are doing stuff like this in the same vein..Remember the days when you heard something fresh and you couldn’t wait to play if for your friends or “put on” others. The powers that be do a great job in shaping minds to think that hip hop rap is Jay, Wayne, Drizzy, etc….Check for Jasari x..Check for Jay Electronica…Check for all that you can that isn’t spoon fed for you to like. There is so much good music out there to bang to but unfortunately you have to search for it. Media powers love for us to stay on that dumb down music and stay in a hypnotic state. Songs like these and others spark action and thought..The last thing they want! All in all we have the power as consumers to dictate what we want to hear but that is not the case in the current state of Hip Hop. Were told what’s hot instead of us making our own decision on whats hot and not. Its time to switch it up/take it back. And it can start by you telling one friend..Eh yo…check this dope cut out I heard..joints fly right…Sorry for the rant yall..Peace and love ..
    Heir.

  26. Keisha

Uhhh…Maybe the Bossip staff is smarter than we think. I don’t think I would have watched if they hadn’t used that hook, just like the rapper did.

  27. I want to present the devil-coon website award to “Bossip.com”

Bossip is owned by rich white folks just like BET….

  28. Afro Saegian

What truly funny is that fact that editor of this “brilliant blog”, missed the true meaning of this young man’s effort to rekindle our pride. It’s deeper than a surface wound and this “brilliant blog” is among those who continue to enslave us.

  29. elektrikeccentrik

    @ Keisha
Yea I’m starting to think that too. If the title said “Underground rapper tries to reach out to BET CEO Debra Lee”, the story would’ve had like 5 hits.
This is why i don’t watch BET anymore. It breaks my heart.

  30. Young B

This song is hot! this guy is speaking the truth sorry that us as black folks thing its cool to call our ladies B*** and like thugs rapping. Black people we are moving backwards in life and not forwards. This guy speaks the truth whether you like it or not.

  31. elektrikeccentrik

    @ Keisha
Yea you have a point. If the title read “Underground Rapper Tries To Reach Out To BET CEO Debra Lee”, the story would’ve had like 6 hits.

But this is why I don’t watch BET… it breaks my heart.

  32. elektrikeccentrik

lol @ bossip messing up my comments. i tried to send the 1st one and it didn’t work. i tried again and it but my 1st and 2nd comment up… what is wrong with it today?

  33. ON MY MOMMA

BOSSIP under the same situation Deb is…ran by the white folk so if m*****a say diss blacks…guess what they do…and then post the true substance as garbage…

  34. ON MY MOMMA

This young man deserves a lot for his efforts, that was truly magnificent and worth watching…and it was all FREE…would love to see him in the game…but that would be too much of a perfect world.

  35. Thats Real HipHop not commercial trash.

  36. Mystic

Daaaaayumn are there white people writing for Bossip now? I can’t believe they never heard of Jasiri X!

  37. shortdawg

good lyrics and flow but leave Debra Lee and B.E.T. alone. I’m sick of people trying to blame rappers and television networks on how some people are doing wrong and acting ignorant. It’s all in the raising and surrounding of a person, not because of what someone’s lyrics on B.E.T. or action on a reality show does.

  38. @shortdawg

you don’t have a clue do you?

  39. Jamie

I’m a fan of this one.

  40. hunnyluv78

Of course Bossip missed the point….they’re white owned like BET….check on it. Working from the inside to dumb us down.

  41. deesac

Well he is definitely on the right track of finding a good woman. I would hook up with her in a heartbeat. And it has nothing to do with her money she just a beauitful woman all around that could put women younger then her to shame.

  42. t-t ok

looks like my hometown pittsburgh! 7 rings *****es!!!!

  43. Unbelievable

omg I just fell in love with all my black brothers and sisters all over again for calling bossip out for their ignorance on this one. This guy is on fire and the message is right on point.

  44. UnkleRuckus

    LAST! BET-free for ten years!

  45. Wow. Sometimes I enjoy Bossip and other times I wonder which person had their “off” day and how certain topics slipped past the senior editors.

Jasiri X is a fantastic “underground” and favorite local artist from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He is not “a kid”, either, he’s a grown man that I feel I must defend because I don’t like to see such talented, real Hip Hop artists disrespected like this (and thank you for all who have stood up to acknowledge the depth of his message and his person).

For those unaware, this is a love letter to Debra Lee but it is one on a higher spiritual plane; and for those unaccustomed to such Basic English 101 glossary terms such as imagery, allegory, metaphor and simile, you should think about Common’s use of the song title, “I Used to Love H.E.R.”, where “H.E.R.” is a personified music genre—Hip Hop. Geez!

Jasiri X’s song could be “I WANT to love H.E.R.”, especially with the changing of the guard in Debra Lee’s capable hands.

What I most appreciate about this video is that it’s an appeal, a campaign that is *asking* everyone, especially Lee to change their minds about how they go about their business. Sure, it would be great for Jasiri X to be “put on” but I have noticed that everytime an artist tries to do something that represents higher art, satire, protest, etc., (i.e. Bomani Jones’ “Read a Book” and Sarah Jones’ “Your Revolution Will Not Occur Between These Thighs”), they get banned or misunderstood.

Come on, Bossip. I always thought you all were better than this; and the way you’ve always championed President Obama, I thought you were used to being the “odd man out” and working on a higher plane. There was a time when you were looked upon as a crazy, ‘outcast’ blog for riding so hard for a Black man to become President. And in the end, you had the bragging rights. Step up and do better.

Love you Jasiri X and Paradise Gray from The Burgh!

  46. Determined Observer

JasiriX is correct. It’s just too bad it went over ya head. That means that you’re not understanding what he is talking about.

    Black people.. Wake up!
Aw, nevermind. If u got it that debacle wouldn’ta happened in the 1st place (gas face, BET/bossip)

  47. Determined Observer

JasiriX is correct. It’s just too bad it went over ya head. That means that you’re not understanding what he is talking about.

    Black people.. Wake up!
Aw, nevermind. If u got it that debacle wouldn’ta happened in the 1st place (gasface)

  48. Determined Observer

Jasirix was right! BET is the joke.

  49. *****ata

Wow. I can’t believe this went over Bossip’s head. WTH is wrong with you people? Did you pay any attention whatsoever to the lyrical content? If you did and still came to the conclusion that this was a “love letter” and “comedy” you are stupid beyond belief. SMDH.

This is exactly why we need more artists like Jasiri X who combat the culture of ignorance spread by outlets like BET and Bossip. You look real stupid trying to call someone out. Morons.

  50. I really liked it…it was funny and truthful and not disrespectful though I feel as if it was still making fun of her.

  51. GodOfComments

Bossip you been drinking too much Henny, *****e or no *****e.

Jasiri X laid it in, under and out and wittingly so.

BET is a disgrace to common dignity and self respect of Black folk.

    You mock a conscious entertainer.

  52. Always lead NEVER be led!

Loved the message, and the delivery!

Unfortunately, most of the people who really need to get this; won’t get it (understand/relate). The song is just too original, thought provoking, and non-mainstream. Maybe he should get weezy to jump on the remix.

Maybe then the blind will see……….?????? (doubt it though)

  53. uz

The song definitely has a powerful message to it. It indicates whats wrong with all the mainstream hip hop… and state of mind in general.

Love real hip hop, love thought provoking music. What i dont get is some of the comments over here towards white people, but i guess i can be forgiven as im white “bwoy” from eastern europe :D

  54. smmb

Excellent. Almost reminds me of the 3 times dope, tribe called quest days…

  55. Professor X

Brilliant satire! wow… real hip hop.

  56. Professor X

by the way BOSSIP, this clearly went over your heads. shame.

  57. yea, I actually thought his concept was dope.. he is actually speaking true quote…***Bossip, pay attention and please watch&listen again.

  58. Y’all, I am SO PROUD that you all caught the meaning of this when Bossip clearly didn’t. I’ve been peeping JasiriX for a minute, and he’s both dope and SLEPT-ON! I’m posting this vid to my blog, and you guys should hit him on his youtube vid site if you want to support him and his quest to enlighten. The brother is humble, smart, and will respond PERSONALLY to your emails. Peace

  59. @ Mystic
White people have always been writing for Bossip.

    @ Dr Goddess
Are u kidding me? You need to take a closer look at Bossip and its true agenda which the same as Debra Lee and BET’s agenda.

Bossip did not slip up, and it did not go over their head. They know what they do.
Most of you guys miss the symbolism of what these white supremacy corporations put out there.

LOVE WHAT THEY HATE and HATE WHAT THEY LOVE

  60. T

Bossip this was not a love letter. Did you listen it before posting your comment?

  61. c'mon

Bossip you are idiots did you even listen to the track? It has a Message. You know what you guys DID NOT Listen! You just posted, so many intellegent people There at bossip!

  62. c'mon

Intelligent I guess i should have left it mis-spelled so bossip could understand!

  63. Darrick

Jasiri is a revolutionary. He does a lot more than talk it, he walks it. He and Paradise Gray aka Paradise the Architect of X-Clan are the tip of the spear in Pittsburgh, PA. Bossip completely missed the boat, but what would you expect from Bossip.

  64. Dizzy McElroy

Is this “comedy” because it is a positive message?

  65. Bossip I think we’re all waiting for a response… or a double take of the clip? Thanks!

  66. As usual, some of us GET THE MESSAGE and some of us CHOOSE NOT TO. This song and video that Minister Jasiri X displays is THE BEST VIDEO AND SONG I’ve heard in a long time, besides THRILLER. (LOL). He makes the point that BET is not the BET it used to be. I’m a proud BLACK MAN and I do not like what I see on BET either. This is no reflection on DEBRA LEE, but I think the song was to get her to WAKE UP and go in a DIFFERENT DIRECTION to give us something we can be proud of. I don’t watch BET anymore because it’s degrating to our people.

  67. CDF

    Jasiri X!!!

  68. Yejide

whoever did this piece on Jasiri X should have long and serious talk with themselves in the mirror about wjy tjey are so irredeemably, pathetically and hopelessly obtuse. Jasiri Goes HARD all day, every day. Steel City stand UP!

  69. Tee Brownie

You effin’ dummies, BOSSIP and those that didnt get it. You have been brainwashed, bamboozled and hoodwinked by the man!! Obama groupies!! Religious hounds! Find your consciousness!! (word to Brother Ash)

  70. Myles

Right on! Thank God! I thought everything on this site was by and for IDIOTS! I just read it to see how much work has to be done. We are in TROUBLE!! We don’t have a second more to waste . The World Hates US! But we hate each other more than it ever could. The entire basic cable world is programmed with Black people killing each other physically, First 48 Crime 360 and mentally anything on BET and VH1. It doesn’t matter how much money or social station in life. Reginal Hudlin is guilty Keith clinkscales and that s*****bag Debra Lee. BET is run like any stereotypical Dumb Black business. They made a deal with the DEVIL!! And sold their audience down the river.

  71. Bossip just gave Jasiri X some free publicity! Thanx! The Real Hip-Hop is finally breakin’ through once again!

  72. Y’all at Bossip should try and clown other great underground mcs like Immortal Technique, Azeem, Zion I, Rita J, Psalm One, or Termanology too ‘cuz they also could use some free publicity from you guys lol! What’s ironic is that you tried to diss Jasiri X, but after reading most of your readers comments, it backfired on y’all! Hahaha! Too funny! Real Hip-Hop Lives!
